EA have posted some info on this patch on their web site.
New map coming - Road to Jalalabad
Also a reversion so unlocks will be available on unranked servers
A fix for cartillery
And they found the bug that causes the crashes
Public Beta test of the new map in July so I suppose the patch is a little ways off yet.

Feral - they released Wake Island 2007 with one of the patches
Useless - as much as I hope they just never get the 'broken kneecaps' feature going for a few of my favourite players.

Alby - Wake Island isnt a new map they just transferred it from 1942 to this one...

Bambi - New in that it is not on the original BF2 DVD, and new in that 1942 had WWII stuffs and now you get modern stuffs. I also think there are differences between how 1942 and BF2 work - it isn't just as straightforward as taking a map from one to the other - otherwise we'd have spent time in the desert by now I am sure.

The 1942 maps are far lower detail for one. Although that's something I'd pay for: the "1942" map pack.

Reversion: Allowing unlocks on unranked servers
Fix/Reversion: We fixed the issue preventing mod teams from running multiple game modes in one map list.
Tuning: We have lowered the number of players needed to start a ranked game.
Tuning: We have made some modifications to the vehicle drop feature introduced in 1.3. These changes should reduce the overall impact of "cartillery" on game play.
Crash Fix: We have located and fixed a crash connected to 1.3.
- mainly a rehash of what Albereth said, but enjoyed the following:
Tuning: We have lowered the number of players needed to start a ranked game.

This could be a fluke, but disabling cd/dvd emulator software seems to help with BF2 stability, I know it used to bitch about detecting such software and u have to disable it, but newer versions do not get bitched about, maybe a new 'feature' is to jst crash/not startup?

Just out of interest - I am using daemon tools V4.00, and would only ever be able to run BF2 once after booting. When trying to run it the second time, it would give an interesting error and die. By fluke I found the disabling all emulation types (so the tray icon goes red, not green) fixes the problem - can start, exit and start again multiple times without rebooting inbetween now .. :)

@ Bass.. nice try thanks but doesn't apply to my crashes. don't run daemon tools.
And they found the bug that causes the crashes
I wish when EA released this info, they would elaborate a bit more on what caused the crash (possibly suggest a work-around)??

I found this happened to me for a couple of games so far. So, I always keep the tray icon "red" when not specifically using any emulation.

Mmm.
Thanks Bass. I have the same problem, but I'm not running Deamon tools at all (I run Alcohol 120). I can only run BF2 once every reboot. SF is a pain, cos, I have to exit BF2, reboot, fetch the SF CD, and run. If I want to play BF2 after SF, I have to go through the whole sheebang again....
As mentioned, I'm running Alcohol 120, and DVDFree43. I had tried disabling the DVDFree43, Skype, MSN etc before I go into BF2. None of this helps. To disable Alcohol virtual drives, I have to do a reboot, so that 's not going to help....
Guess I have to grin and bear it....

I have never used Alcohol or something else, for this exact reason. I use Daemontools 4.03 with all emulation options enabled, and a mini image of BF2 so I don't have to get the DVD (PM me if you want a link, there are several mini images available, but only one I know of runs properly). SF should run with the Vanilla CD/DVD inserted, no need to get the SF CD.

Rainy I have that exact same senario. Plus I shut off the RUN ON STARTUP feature and only start Deamontools when I want to change the image I'm serving on it. Which is almost never nowadays so i just keep it on BF2. The reason I'm using a mini image is cause I almost fried my DVD the other day ofter moving the pc and forgot the DVD in the drive. But found that Deamontools keeps the image you're serving even if you reboot, and even if you shut it down and dont start it on reboot, it just keeps serving BF2 mini image all the time.
back to topic when is this patch1.31 coming out, and why won't they tell us what it breaks this time?

@NB: Why don't you rather run Daemon Tools ??
V4 is able to do everything I need so far (haven't tried AOW again - v3.47 couldn't handle that as it was a CD emulator, not DVD), even if you use Alcohol to create the image (I normally use Blindwrite/Blindread).
I tried Alcohol a while ago, and rather went the BW/ Daemon Tools route ...
really didn't like the whole sidebar thing that Alcohol/VCD introduced ..

Woah Rainy - you lost me a bit there ... I don't know about mini-images. I assume there are just the files needed for the game to be able to start in an image ??
I have the (full) SF disk loaded (virtually) .. everything runs from that too ... :)

Bass: the Mini images I have seen so far look exactly like the original game disks when you look at them in the explorer. But they are much smaller. The mini image for BF2 is exactly 4 megs. Don't ask me how they do it, but apparently they just emulate the copy protection for the game. You mount them in Daemontools like a normal image.

26th June 2006, 12:01 PM
I believe in the mini image all the instalation files and all the files copied to your Hard drive already are emptied and only the names stay there. That's for the one's that don't get checked. Only files needed for confirmation is left in the mini image. Thats how I think it works though. takes up a lot less space on a Drive than a whole image though so its good, since it works just as well.

Ahhh ... any pointers as to where to get these images, or how to make them ?
