View Full Version : LOTRO and BF3

I reckon the LOTRO-ing will take a back seat, which is fine, we've never been super intense with our LOTRO-ing.
As I mentioned in the fellowship thread, I will continue to make appearances in Middle Earth - esp on Mon/Tues nights for any group questing. I'll try sort a mumble channel for us all (kinship) as soon as I get to it. Not rushing as most of you okes are pretty keen on BF3. However I've paid subs for a year, so I'll carry on questing 'n such. It can be a good break from BF3, esp with all the frustrations :)
In short: I'm not abandoning the kin coz of my nice new shiny game, and hope you okes don't either.
The grrr okes are in the same boat (maybe a bit more BF3 inclined as they are a competitive FPS clan) but a few are still keen to LOTRO now and then. I'm working with helping them level 'n such, and have boasted of our awesome fellowships in Moria. Hoping we'll get to show off our l33tness for a change by doing some raids.

Suggestion: If you guys want to take a break, take a break! Any MMORPG can put serious strain on your sanity. Don't try & juggle them - do your BF3 stint, and when you get tired of the hackers, you will always have LOTRO to fall back on, in much the same way my toons are still rotting in limbo with WOW. OR, make a day for LOTRO when you all want to be on, which is probably Mon/Tues - BF3 will have killed all your energy on the weekend. Use it, lose it....

I'm not that intensely addicted to my games Flats. So I don't see any "juggling" problem of both games. For me it's just as simple as playing making a bit of time to LOTRO and a bit of time to BF3, both will happen in their own time and I have no huge intense desire to speed level either of them.
So for me, there is no need to "take a break" as my sanity isn't in jeopardy. I enjoy my online gaming, but it certainly doesn't drain me of energy, in fact its super relaxing :)
I just wanted to let the LOTRO peeps know that I'll be around and I'm not dropping LOTRO completely now for BF3. As kin leader I need to communicate with the guys, as I have not been LOTRO-ing for a couple of weeks due to work deadlines and some connection issues. I have no desire to stop LOTRO completely as I enjoy it - find it far more relaxing than BF3. It's also completely different to WoW, from what I've seen/heard, so there's no danger of insanity occurring with any of our peeps either.
But thanks for the advice nonetheless :)
Edit: I've changed the title of the thread as it may have been misleading (it was "LOTRO vs BF3") - there is no competition between the two games. Just letting peeps know about a possible change in gaming priorities as some of us have only had LOTRO as an online game - now we also have BF3 to enjoy.

Also not going to forget about Lotro. Was on almost everyday to check if Web Africa's problem regarding latency to international sites has been sorted (they had a break in a cable in Portugal somewhere, which caused the latency to Lotro to be around 500 with +- 5% data loss) and it looks like its sort of sorted since last night. Latency is now round about 330 with 0% loss. So i will definately be back soon.

WaWa - I think that shiny new toys will distract people for a while and then they'll get back to a more balanced schedule. I am in a similar boat but one with a hole in it. I like playing LoTRO with Jonathan but he is away most of the time. But I also want to stay in touch (level wise that is) with the Geeks because some things require a party.
Let's see what happens over the next few weeks.
And the usual suspects with the shooty games (Firefox and Shadow) haven't been seen down my barrel yet.

You summed it up perfectly for me. It is the first time in all of my gaming with the geeks that the majority are playing the same game. Its so much so that its tough to get a slot on the server!

Ugh! Still can't make up my mind if I wanna do BF3 as well. And TG summation of BF3 didn't help towards a positive decision.

Listen you big soft girl - if you are going to have your kop smokkeled by TG then you are probably better off with Minesweeper. C'mon. You loved BF2 - you'll love this too.

I remember playing WOW with 700ms pings, and that didn't stop me. Was nice when I got it down to 300ms, though 500ms pings did crop up. Can you believe how amazing that is? All the way to Europe in less than a second, and here we complain about a couple of 100 milliseconds!

TG's review is not an accurate reflection of the game - he's taken it from the gripe point of view, which we all do when any new game, or patch releases. It's way better than BC2, and I think a couple of patches down the line it'll be even better. The lack of ingame isn't an issue because we all play together, BUT it would have been nice to chat to arb strangers and make new friends. I made plenty of friends on BF2 through squad VoIP, but BC2 messed that up for all of us, and we just lost touch.
You won't regret getting this game!
