This link was on the myadsl forums earlier, and I thought I would replicate it here: http://www.twitchguru.com/2006/06/26/mmr/

I wish I could make something and accept not liability for it, no matter what happens. Imagine if EA made cars... I cant understand how the gaming community accepts the bull this company offers.

They will happily use linux as their server side app for bf2, but dont give a toss about the actual linux users, they release really buggy software that has resulted in more than a few users loosing their operating systems. They offer almost NO support for their product. They dont actually listen to the players, but rather just gun for that bottem line dollar.

The amount of tryanny a people are willing to accept is the amount they are willing to live under. The gaming community seems to like taking it a lot up the.... a real lot.

On my side:P Im doing what I do best. Biatch and moan. Im starting a petition to get the big gamers to be more liable for their software, and to make sure that they produce is fairly for all major OS`s. I know it might be considered going over board, but bugger that. If I produce something.. and there is a flaw in that design, I am held liable for it.

If a car producer makes a car that has a flaw in it, the car is recalled and the flaw resolved, otherwsie the car manufacturer will get the heck sue`d outta him. The last time you bought a car, did you sign away all your rights with a EULA? Why should it be like that in the software world?

Sure - you have a point. But I guess a number of the fixes that have been brought about, to use the analogy you have, are of this nature: Some people sit in a motor vehicle and use it sensibly - but some find it cool to drive with their heads out of the sun-roof. Or, some people walk or run in BF2 but others found it cool to bunny hop and dolphin dive. In the absence of traffic police the cars were re-released without a sun roof - BF2 had leaping height reduced and the inability to fire.

Thing is - recalling a car is a good thing because it may save lives. Having bugs in gaming software is an irritation (unless you're in the clan o'liars).

Of course I'd like it to work properly the first time and as buggy as it may be, I've had a lot of fun with it.

I suppose Alb is right in a way, but I still can't stand the kak EA give the community. It's not really that hard to set things on a better path - I don't even mean fixing the bugs.

If EA simply said something of an apology and at least tried to look sincere and like they wanted to help the community, they would find a lot more people being a lot more understanding.

But since they decide 'screw you!' approach, they have a lot of hate directed at them..
