Saw this movie on Sunday at the Il Grande in Monty. Well worth seeing it on the big screen.

So the synopsis is that apparently Superman's homeworld was discovered by astronomers and he disappeared after those news were disclosed to the public.

A supernova takes a planet with it and a capsule is witnessed moving along the debris. Without talking too much about the whole movie we are shown the newly arrived reborn Superman with memories from the previous one.

The introduction of the characters is smooth and the ever popular evil Lex Luthor gathers a plan to get his revenge.

There are a couple of twists in the storyline and wont spoil it here.

Overall and enjoyable movie, good FX, decent storyline if you would call it that and Superman's hair actually moves when he flies! :D

I suppose a sequel will be in the works.

Warning - do not go and see this movie at Hyde Park Nu Metro. They have stuffed the sound up solid, movie house running down, really annoying. Got my money back, made them pay for parking and went to see it at Northgate for a thrid of the price.

I am not sure that the sound is particularly good in how they have mixed it. Soundtrack and effect are good but the dialog track seems nerfed.

I don't agree with Useless' statement about Superman being reborn. But see for yourselves. It is a long movie so be prepared.

i havent read the comics which interlace the movie together... but then how do you explain the capsule from the planet? huh?

Let's see. KryPton is destroyed many thousands of years ago and superman is sent to Earth as a baby. He arrives in a space ship.

the story line in the movie alludes to him having gone in search of Kryton to make sure for himself that it is all gone. 'It was a graveyard'.

Superman's powers come from the sun - he is like a battery and you could drawn the conclusion that he may have been significantly weakened by travelling to Kryton - perhaps to the point that he'd have needed assistance in getting back. To that end he could have used the crystals to form a 'spaceship' for the return journey.

Ultimately though, it just created a vehicle to remind the audience of his background, or to bring new fans into the loop and for the interesting flashbacks.

There are some irritations in the story but they may be spoilers so I'll hush for now.

But the comic book has him killed by Doomsday and he does return after being saved by Kryptonian technology. But then nobody has ever said that there has to be consistency in the DC (or even the Marvel) universes.

8? Try 16.. unless there's a promotion that I wasn't aware of.
Normal numetro price is R20 these days - R4 for edgars card = R16.

And you can only buy 4 tickets per day on an edgars card.

Alluvium means TOMORROW as in TUESDAY when its half-price... thus from the regular R16 it becomes R8. ;)

but like TG said, you can only buy it once per day unless you have more than one card.

Albereth I wasn't pointing out the typo. Just got me thinking with the Kryton.

Now my review.

I say it's just not worth it. Unless you still have superman pajamas, just give this one a skip. See it when the DVD gets pirated and your neighbour downloaded it and passes it on to you. And he upplies the DVD stock. And even then, don't expect much. The story line just doesn't seem to hold water. It's not that there are plotholes, it's just a giant feeling of seen it all before. I don't know, maybe it's cause I saw the other Superman movies before and not recently that this one just dont cutit. It bothers me that you have 60's clothing and cars in some scenes and a next generation space shuttle and Lois's modern day Audi in others. I was never sure when I was in a flashback and when not. His mom still drives the red prewar pickup but Lois gets the Audi? Also the style is very outdated. Like that trick with having an aircraft dissapear out the bottom of the screen, possibly behind a convenient rock, if one is available. Unless this is the first movie you've ever seen, you know exactly what's gonna happen. I could even count it down! Those foofies worked before A-Team came out! And they did it twice in this movie! Sheesh! This movie is LOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGG! They had an intermission to change the rolls in the theater where I was, something that I have last seen at a drive in.
Kevin Spacey deserves a special mention as he makes a stunning Lex Luther. I really wasn't expecting him too. Too bad they didn't give him a real plot to execute.

Oh it's vintage superman, but I kinda feel we've had better harvest years since that vintage came out.

well i went to the movies today didnt have time for out planned marathon,

edgars cards, we have like 4-5 so isnt a prob, althought when i asked the lady she said you can use it 4 times a month, or 4 times in a day or 4 times on a movie?

review..
as for authentic superman movie, great stuff, dickhead luther is played nicly by spacy, that "South" guy as superman does a good job and the airbrushing and effects alltually look intresting in that it feelsa very much like superman and not some dude in tights and a cape.

stroy , meh sad , didnt like it that much, it really was like miniamal. some parts of the movie were good other meh dodgey, overall it was well made, they tried to (and i think sucseedededed) in keeping the origional flavour of the movie, but the story line lets it down. {also those hench men who in total had like 3 lines betwean them, reaaaally bugged me}

OH OHOHOH soooo who caught the jab at batman? i know its all DC but still was funny, at one piont the newsreaders are mentioning where supperman has been helping out when he gets back(all around the world ect) and the lady says something like "super man has been seen helping in new york, washingtin, and gotham city" i chuckkled, bnut im different so yeah.

plot holes, the one the bugged the CRAP out of me,
when he catches the HUGE daily planet earth ball thing and stops it from falling on the editor... we all saw it fall off yet in the final shot after SM is out of hospital and does the flyby of the city, you can see it clearly lit... how the fusk did they get it back on top of there so quick ?

There. I managed to fix the spoiler tag without reading the spoiler! :sharp:

Hopefully this doesn't spoil your carefully masked spoiler but:

It could hardly be left where he put it - it was blocking the road and squishing the car so someone must have thought to put it back. There really isn't any indication of how much time passes so who knows - as I said earlier not much sense in the DC universe time line.

@Wall - but I used a smilie and everything :D:D:D

Alluvium I have to agree that it was well made and that they kep the original flavour of super man. That may be part of the problem cause they also kept the plot line true to wht we're used to - something that would have been kewl in the early 80's.

In spite of the original flavour I'm saying if you're not a die hard fan just skip this.

OH and well prolly super man helped them to repair it that quick. LOL.

I must admit I also found some of the stuff a little annoying - especially the bimbo hench person. That was lifted from the first Superman movie - Annette O'Toole - who wen ton to be in Smallville.

I think the worst one was having Pichard Prior in a Superman movie. What were they thinking back then?

But you are right - this is one for fans. Being a fan helps you fill in the gaps.

Still - the special effects are pretty awesome at times
