View Full Version : Problems with BF2 and my beautiful laptop.

Here's the setup:

My laptop can run BF2 on everything lowest graphics, and get an average FPS of 60 on a 16 player single player server, thus no problems there. No other programs open, so no problems there.

However, no matter what graphical settings I put it on, it constantly sort of 'freeze-frames', ie, kinda lags but not really.

It happens when I try and use the mouse/keyboard the input seems messed up... It has delay issues, AND sometimes goes 'further' than I want, I.e, it keeps turning the tank turret even after I've stopped moving the mouse...

Help!

But... But... What about when I go to Pringle bay and I don't have my main comp?

Seriously, sometimes I go to friends houses and want to play there... so a bit of advice would be wonderful!!

EDIT: *real* advice ;)

What specs are your laptop, specifically, CPU, memory, graphics card and hard drive rotation speed.

A 'Short' Summary of this computer...

I just Copy/Pasted from a computer scanning program, and I can't be bothered to dig through and cut bits out etc.... :D enjoy ;)

Thanks, eh :D

Ummmm Feral ... as much as I would like to be able to help, I'm afraid I haven't come across anything that might make a diff ...

I would first start looking at drivers with this kind of problem, generally, but one is a lot more contrained with a laptop, so unfortunately you'll probably find that there isn't anything you can do.
I trust I am wrong on this one - has just been my experience with laptops so far - they obviously aren't built for gaming, so these kind of issues do tend to crop up more often than on desktops ... :(

Please let us know if you do find the problem though ....

Edit: TG posted a link to a program that sets bus latencies a few months ago - maybe take a look at that ..

Your hardrive is a 5400 rpm unit and with only 512M memory, the HD will be accessed a lot more and with the HD being slower than normal PC drives, the hardrive accesses will probably be nasty "lag" spikes for you as memory pages are swapped to and from the drive. Best approach is probably to try to get more memory, if possible. Also, try to close as many resident programs as possible. That little tray on the bottom right of the screen should be as empty as possible. Get rid of themes or anything else that gobble memory.

your short on ram and your hdd is gonna pay the price... as for funny inputs it could be related to a touch pad driver installed
