Makro day!

So i went to makro today.. to get some kind of proper demo of the plasma's and lcd's!

So i pitch up already in boxing gloves because last time these boys sold me something.. which was laptop ... they stuffed up the specs majorly when i went to get it... so i bitched and whined and wrote a letter to their managment telling them what retards they were and then they gave me some free pc stuff. Then when i went back again.. the same idiot salesman buggered up another thing totally!

But today, it went much better, I pretty much walked in... grabed the first yellow shirt i saw and said " Well i'm interested in your plasmas , which is the best one" .... expecting him to at least attempt a sales pitch which would give me some info... didn't quite work.

So i said.. well ok... these things are sposed to be hi def... you are running them all off a s-video cable.. this is not going to demo to me what i want to see... go get a laptop off the shelf and come hook that up.... the guy looked at me a bit funny... then realised that i was for real and decided to go get the "expert" salesman.

So the dude comes along.. i explain the plasma is not going to sell itself to me and their needs to be some participation on their behalf... so he dissapears... I wait a while... i guess they thought i might leave.. but i didnt.. and he then comes back with a laptop and a s-video cable, I tell him to go fetch a d-sub cable.. because I wanna see the thing in HI RES.

Now half their screens are cable tied to the display racks so you cannot get behind them to plug stuff in. Well i make it quite clear that... we must cut and replace... so now i have 3 salesman.. cutting the cable ties... holding the plasma's and plugging in the laptop. Eventually we go through 5 different HD sets.. and the results are quite different... only 1 set was nice and crystal clear on HD. The rest.. where shit! even the LCD's didnt cut it!

So after about 50 mintues of work... I'm now happy with the demo and have decided the 50" Plasma for 20k is the bomb!

Will be walking in tomorrow to purchase one!

Audio Vision here at Canal walk has some LG's and Samsungs on display with a manufacturer supplied HD source and I must say they are Sweeeeet!

having a little trouble getting it onto a suitable res for bf2.. the screen goes mega hi res.. but then bf2 doesnt match it... u put the screen lower res.. and bf2 wont go above 800x600.. so there are always borders

also had to point out to the salesman that the ADVERT clearly stated .. desktop stand and speakers included... which had him returning back to the storage and trying to find these items.

Good thing i payed attention else i woulda missed out!

well...

good old dstv= 8xx X 480 res=crap! but u can still watch tv!
ps2 =s-video=crap! but u can still play nicely!
we connected the pc via the hd cable( 3 rca,p,br,rg or something cable) which is odd.. becuase then you have to go into nvidia options and select to output in 720p mode.. then the tv flicks into the right mode .. then things look damn fantastic.. however getting a game like BF2 or PREY to run in these resolutions was an issue.. we got bf2 running but only in 4:3 mode... worms 4 mayhem( i just had the demo installed) ran awesomely full screen and all... crystal clear. Unfortunatly my dvd drive in the pc started giving shit so we didnt actually get to try a DVD in hi res mode.

Today i'm gonna go to makro and grab a vga2vga cable and then i can run 1366x768.. and probbaly get the games like bf2 to run in that mode aswell.

It seems my ps2 with a component cable should give me a better picture than its s-video cable.. so i'm gonna try find one of those aswell for dvd's!

BF2 doesnt support 16:9 mode so you will be stuck in 4:3 mode until EA sorts it out, Prey runs nicely in 16:9 so you can surely play that.

for your PS2 i would reccomend a component cable and run a progressive scan enhanced game which would make it worth it to play, off my head i know of the following PS2 games which use that mode and look awesome :

Resident Evil 4
Tekken 4
Shadow of the Colossus
GT4
Prince of Persia ( the first one )
Soul Calibur 2 ( this one runs @ 720p in 4:3 mode )

For most of these games you NEED to press X and triangle while the PS2 logo is showing during game mode, this will enable progressive scan. Before that you will have to set your PS2 to use the RGB component cables and Widescreen to make full use of the enhanced graphics. ;)

well .. i'm just gonna use the ps2 for dvd's.. if i can get the quality up!
the ps2 games really come in at 2nd place!

i only have the prey demo.. the issue is when u use the hdmi cables.. you have to select on the video card 720p... or 1080i mode etc etc
once u have done that... the games themselves give you odd options(800x600 was all that prey would give us)

you wont get progressive scan viewing DVDs off your PS2 without those cables.

for Prey it will have to be 720p which matches the resolution your plasma has.

once you do that when you enter Prey and change the graphics settings it will give you the 16:9 resolutions you seek. ;)

So... marlon comes to work and says to me... hey looky i see the plasma has been marked down to 18k now!

I'm like "huh.. it was marked down from 25k.. lemme go check"
And he's right.. its 18k now!

I think.. those stupid morons still havent even given me my stand or speakers which are part of the tv and now they lower the price" fairs fair... i should pay the new price considering i have yet to receive the full product.

I bought the tv on the 30th.. its now the 22nd!
thats way longer than their 14 day period to exchange!

But considering they havent given me the speakers or stand.. it stands to reason that i havent received the full product yet.

So i go in.. talk to mr salesman 1.. he makes a "call' he tells me "nope... longer than 14 days" .. i ask him who he called .. some manger.. so i tell him to get her down here to speak to me.

She comes along.. bit of a bitchy woman... says the same thing.. i explain to her that i am unhappy , my speakers and stand still havent arrived and i was told they would be there within a week of purchase.. if they can't get that right they should give me the new price as thats the price its at when i actually receive my stuff, she makes a call to her manager now, i tell him to come talk to me.


I explain the same thing to him.. he says no.. i say i dont accept that.. he says ok.. i'll give you R500 off.. i say bugger that i want the R2000.. he makes a call.. says R1000.. i say stuff that... he says fine no deal.
I say well i'll just bring the parts i have back.. and considering i havent received the full thing, i will return it for a full refund then "maybe" make another purchase.

He makes another call... says he will have to inspect the stock when it comes back... i tell him great... its still in the box as we speak ( even though the box is cut up into a zillion little pieces)
I walk away.. he says wait... calls the shop manager. mumble mumble mumble on phone.. ok.. we will give you the R2000 as vouchers.

I accept.

Now i'm back with missus manger 1.. not a bright woman , just a bitch.. probably how she became a manager!

She takes me to the helpdesk and decides to get them to reverse my 20k i paid for the TV. ummm ok... so they do that. Then she attempts to charge me the new price of 18k.. it wont go through cause the 20k hasnt gone back into the account. Doh!!!!

So missus intelligence now decides to phone the bank to make them put it through.. yea.. thats gonna happen!
She tries and tries.....not gonna work... she then tells me i must leave my credit card with her .. i tell her to get lost!
Eventually after about 29 phone calls and half their staff screwing around phoning banks.. its been 3 hours now.
I tell her i am leaving.. she fluffed it.. i'll be back another time to pay!

So i got the tv at home.. the money is pending to go back into my bank account. And this dumb woman at makro is fuming at me for giving her hassles. While standing at the hi tech section while all this was going on... she was getting annoyed by the music... so she looks at the pc.. can't work out how to turn the volume down... grabs the speaker and adjusts the "tone" ... gets pissed and then rips the cord out.
I laughed!
She couldnt even make a photo copy of my invoices.
But i got my 2k back so I'm happy!
