View Full Version : New Stuff

I've made a few changes on the forum.
You might notice in the post editor that there's a couple of new buttons.
Yup, there's new bbcodes.
If you click the link for 'vBcode' at the very bottom of a page, you'll be able to see the complete list.
---
I've also changed the way threads display a bit. Your signature will only appear in your first post in a thread. This will speed loading up a tad, and will save some screen realestate.
I'll update here as I change things that you might notice. ;)
--- 20 Jan 2006
I've changed the time display from absolute to relative - (ie, to show '1 minute ago' etc)
Added the Welcome Panel at the top of the screen
Added an option to user control panel to delete your own user account.
I've added a PM button in the postbit, so you can PM a user directly from their post (instead of clicking the username, and send PM)
A whole lot of new bbcodes - check the vbcodes listing that's available at the bottom of a thread / new post. ("vbcode is on" link)
Something which only affects new users - There is an automatic PM sent when their account is activated. Gives some info about applying to the clan.
(That's what that TestUser was about that some of you saw earlier)

Excellent ! Can only be good as the site is often quite slow :(

I like the change to the way time displays.

Perhaps we could tidy up a bit. I'm not up to speed with the correct manners for forums but we've now got three threads for Clan matches/practise... or is it four... :)

There appears to be an error in the vbcode examples pertaining to the me action output.
(also proving that I can read past the first five lines of a post / page if I want to... :p )

You're quite correct. Unfortunately, due to the way it works, it will always be incorrect. Nothing /me can do about it unfortunately.

Correct!!!! At last!!! All those years of institutionalized education finally paid off. :D

I've added an auto prune for the shoutbox, which means that there will only be MAX 48 hours worth of shouts in the archive.
TG
2nd February 2006, 08:43 AM
Right - some major changes to the shoutbox. I've removed the smiley code - sin ce I've disabled them anyway, there was no point in building the stupid list. (Smileys still work!)
The majorly biggest change - NO MORE AUTO REFRESH!
You HAVE to hit the sparkly new 'refresh' button in order to refresh the shoutbox. This should speed up the site slightly. Don't go overboard by sitting there constantly clicking 'refresh' ya hear?

My refresh button does not sparkle any more :(.
/me goes off to sulk in the corner.
/me protests the relentless march of technology :p.
P.S. Thanks TG.

Well, stop rubbing it. You know it goes all red when you rub it.

I promise I won't push it.
Opera has an auto Refresh I'll set to 5 second intervals . . ;)

Thanks a million TG !! Changes have all been good so far ! :D
One quick question - can I set how many shouts to display by default - the list seems to have shrunk, so I now HAVE to go look in the archive most times ... ?
TG
4th February 2006, 11:54 AM
No, it's changeable on a global scale only, not individual (pity). I reduced it so that the SQL result at every refresh would be a tad smaller, thereby using less bandwidth. If it's a problem for a few people, I can raise it again.
Bass
4th February 2006, 06:00 PM
Hmm - with changing the refresh to be manual that should have taken quite a load off SQL, so shouldn't be too much of a problem to increase the size slightly ... my 2c :)

Right. A couple of new things for the past few days:
The Shoutbox is now known was the War Room. I have extended the display back up to the last 30 posts as it was before.
I have added a button to the SB for displaying the available BBCodes. It will popup a window - it might get blocked by some popup blockers - not sure. Works fine for me tho.
New stuff for today:
If you have unread PM's, a little flashing envelope icon will appear on the top right of your screen to attract your attention - especially useful if you have the popup notification switched off.
You might notice on my post headers that there's a nifty lil dropdown link called 'My System'. This shows my computer specs.
This is a new profile option - by default it is DISABLED.
You can enable it by going to your UserCP (usercp.php), edit Options, and fill in the fields. Remember to ENABLE it.
Enjoy.

so when are we getting the Playboy theme for the forum baas? :p
TG
8th February 2006, 08:18 AM
ANOTHER new thing...
If you edit your profile, you'll spot a field to enter your BF2 PID - If you do that, you will get a nifty lil BF2 Icon (like the one on mine) - if you click it, it will take you to your BF2Tracker stats page.
Yet another new thing (YANT) -
xFire support! For you guys who use XFire - if you edit your profile, you can set your xFire username, and hopefully it will show your xFire info on the postbit. I don't use xFire, so I can't test this. Will someone please go add that info, and then post a reply here so I can see how it looks?
TG

Thanks Ruslan - I'm going to change its location slightly.
Ruslan74

TG, the Xfire location seems better either next to the poster's name or just next to the Join Date, etc. info. What do you think?
Smack in the middle looks a bit... odd? or is it just me?
TG
8th February 2006, 08:54 AM
Oy, I'm busy with the location - I'll let you know when I think it's final ;)
EDIT:
Arrgghhhh!!! I FINALLY got it right!
Damn, what a pain in the ass!

TG - this is awesome. :D :D :D :D
It betters most of the "professional" forums I visit. Well done.
I suppose you want payment now..... like each member sacrifices themselves for 1 TK each for every cool change you make - You'll be top of the pops before you know it.

TG.
The change you made recently with the Sig only repeating once on your first post - that seems to only happen on each page. If I post a reply on every page, it doesn't track that you posted on the previous page. It's not a problem, just an observation. :p
TG
9th February 2006, 10:22 AM
Yeah, it's a per page thing.
Just makes the actual page load a tad quicker. Bad description - sorry.
