You guys recall playing the classic Ghost Recon? Nevermind Ghost Recon 2 as it was a console flop and lucky us didnt even get a PC port.
Well, the 3rd incarnation looks sweet and perhaps has the proper formula to be a succesful team-based FPS.
Here are some of the latest screenies (http://www.ghostrecon.com/us/ghostrecon3/index.php) for your enjoyment @ 1280x720 ( 720p ).

i suppose you can customize it but as the SL in the game you do control everybody or pop into their shoes just like in the first game.
i hope this game doesnt get too console oriented like CoD2, there you approach a small wall and you get a JUMP! queue telling you what to do... lol!

I just hope that the AI is better than in the first one. The single player didn't do too well for replayability IMHO cause every time you played the AI guys would be in exactly the same places. Two or three times in and I could snipe the first guy without being able to see him just cause I knew which end of the bunker he was standing.

a preview at Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/tomclancysghostrecon3/news.html?sid=6142977) is available.
Snippet :
"It's clear from what we just played of Advanced Warfighter that Red Storm has managed to extract far more performance out of the Xbox 360 in the extra development time they've been allowed. Since the last time we saw the game at X05 last fall, it has graphically improved by leaps and bounds, with more detailed modeling and environmental work, plus a noticeably smoother frame rate. The postprocessing effects have been beefed up nicely as well, with appealing high-contrast lighting, for instance, and a believable rain effect on the Dry Docks level. Even the sound has been further enhanced by the developers. For example, during a demo, we saw how walking into a pipe would convincingly mute the sound of the rain outside, and firing a weapon inside this same pipe produced a deafeningly realistic reverb effect."
How about teamwork?

Snippet :
"Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, is pleased to announce that Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, the next installment in the critically acclaimed, squad-based military shooter franchise, has gone gold on Xbox360. Check below for further details on Xbox and PC release dates.
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter will be shipping for the PC in May 2006. Ubisoft has extended the launch of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for the PC version allowing the developers more time to put the finishing touches on the game and make it the best possible PC gaming experience.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will be available March 9 worldwide. For the Xbox it will be shipping March 9 in the U.S. and March 16 in Europe. Look for more news regarding Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter in the coming days.
Why did you delay the other versions?
Mathieu Girard - To achieve better quality and deliver all the features we wanted to have in the game. GRAW PC is a project developed specifically for this machine so its development cycle was different from that of the other platforms.
What are the main differences between consoles and PC builds?
Mathieu Girard- We have a gameplay that is very different from the gameplay of the console version; for instance the ghosts are controlled in a way that is specific to the PC, with a much more accurate order system. This involves adapting all the game content (including reprogramming completely the enemy AI) and tuning it to this way of playing. We shared the storyline and setting of the XBOX 360, but all the rest had to be reworked, to appeal to a GR1 audience while at the same time taking into account the new PC specific features. The other major differences are, of course, full first person control, and PC-specific multiplayer modes.
How is GRAW for the PC going to kick ass?
Mathieu Girard - We had some very ambitious designs for the multiplayer, and we did not advertise on the exact content until we were sure to be able to deliver it. Things such as simulating a fully interactive physical environment over the network were risky, but we are now comforted that the cooperative mode will deliver unprecedented experience of multiplayer gameplay. The domination mode is also very promising as it changes the control of areas to something more interesting than simply capturing flags. More info to come soon.
Oh well, better a good PC copy than a straight X360 clone hey?

a review of the game on the X360 is out on IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/694/694274p1.html) which gives it a 9.2/10 and has some good points over it which will be valid for the PC version too!

a hands-on preview (http://pc.ign.com/articles/701/701730p1.html) of the PC version of the game at IGN.
Along with the story, there is a large similarity in the art style. While the engine is actually completely different for the PC version of the game, players will see very few noticeable differences. Lots of browns, use of blur filters for distance objects, very nice explosion effects, and very lifelike animation are all pretty much the same. Different is the more prolific use of physics for visual effect. As demonstrated in the video entitled "Destruction and Physics", some objects in the world are given more life. Boxes will blow into the air and scatter around and vehicles are way more extensive in the number of parts and level of destruction, and vegetation will flutter around when contacted (see the "Approaching the President's Limo" video for a demonstration of bullets pushing palm leaves around. While it has little impact on the gameplay, it definitely adds to the immersion factor. [b]GRIN is busy implementing Ageia physics as well for those lucky enough to have a physics processor in their system.[b]
Physics processor... oh my word... another hardware gadget for purchase!

The 1.10 Patch is out and below is a list of fixes plus future content to be made by Ubisoft for the game :
After releasing the most anticipated Tactical FPS of 2006 on PC, UBISOFT is proud to show its strong support of the latest instalment in the Ghost Recon series, as well as to its fans!
Five years after its release, the first Ghost Recon is still considered as a "must have" in terms of the online experience it provided. This is due to its unique mix of FPS and tactical shooter elements, as well as its exclusive and addictive MP modes—but most of all, its success is due to the support of fans all around the world!
UBISOFT's desire has always been to listen to the GR community and take into consideration their expectations and desires. That is the reason why today Ubisoft is releasing an immediate patch and revealing new free multiplayer content to be released throughout the summer for GHOST RECON ADVANCED WARFIGHTER on PC.
Starting in June, UBISOFT and developer GRIN will release brand new multiplayer modes, including:
Deathmatch mode, Map Editor for Deathmatch and Domination, anti-cheat fixes, Anti Aliasing feature, and New co-op maps.
Throughout the summer:
Team Deathmatch, Hamburger Hill modes, Original GR co-op mode, Map editor for TDM, HH, OGR co-op, GRAW co-op improvement (quick start and respawn) and Dedicated Server pack.
Enjoy playing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter!
As mentioned above, the 1.10 GRAWPC patch is now available, with download links provided below the changelog:
Please be aware that this patch will overwrite your key bindings. To avoid any issues with this you MUST do this and remap your keys through the game interface.
Fixes:
Numerous HUD fixes to prevent issues with cameras, inventory screens and resupply.
Animation and lighting fixes for various objects.
Fixed general synchronization problems in Cooperative and Domination modes.
Destructible objects are correctly reset when restarting rounds in multiplayer.
Issues causing user disconnects in multiplayer have been found and fixed.
You can no longer remain invisible and kill players using grenades.
Fixed crash that could occur after restarting rounds on Avenues map.
Player can no longer spawn dead or remain living when the round restarts.
Zone glitches on two multiplayer maps corrected.
Game no longer crashes while attempting to open inventory out of Dom zone.
Helicopters will no longer fall down in certain situations.
Cooperative objective waypoints correctly appear after spawning into an AI ghost.
Domination statistics have been adjusted.
GRAW will no longer run as process priority "High", resolving keyboard problems.
Interface Updates:
Coop players can now see status of others in inventory. Gray means loading, yellow is not ready, green means good to go.
You no longer have to press "Enter" to confirm input in the multiplayer interface. This should fix certain issues users were having with Gamespy login.
In game chat can now be toggled to be visible or not. Default key for this is "u". You will still receive chat messages when this is hidden.
Key bindings added for CrossCom actions. It is now possible to reassign the CrossCom previous and next buttons through the game interface. This change will resolve the issue for users with no mouse wheel.
AGEIA Updates:
Landscape meshes for levels tuned and updated for better AGEIA performance.
Performance increase on bullet hit particles.
Some stalls have been removed.
A bug that caused zero vertices in baked fluid meshes has been fixed.
A bug that caused the rigid bodies from a hand grenade explosion to fall through the ground has been fixed.
A faster rendering mode has been added for debris particles.
PhysX effects modified to use the faster rendering mode.
Patch weighs at a measly 29MB and should be available locally sometime this week or else try the international sites below :

So who other than N3ddy has the game to try out some COOP missions?
SlappY
26th May 2006, 09:55 AM
OK Well got the game. Initially out the box I thought it was total crap. My PC aint no sloutch, but man it struggled to run this thing. So I did some reading and found that there was a bug whereby the process was set to highest priority, thus interrupting keyboard and mouse inputs, hence the lag in the game. You could drop out and set this from task manager.
Now that the patch has been released I must say it is a completely different game. It really rocks, and def brings something new to the FPS arena. I especially like the tactical mode and the little drone thing. As well as being able to see through the others cameras. It is difficult though, but that being said you dont have to pump the bad guy with 50 rounds before he drops. So in that way I guess it is pretty realistic.
Also tried out the multi player on the net. Struggled to find a server with a decent ping, but when I connected to one with a 400 ping, it played just fine. No lag at all. Multi player gameplay is very different. For instance you get tactical points for doing stuff that you can the nspend on weapons. To spawn in on your squad leader will cost you 500 tactical points. So far I have only managed to play 1 night (I refused to play before the patch was released), but have been very impressed. One thing I didnt like was the inability to type in a server IP from the interface :( And the whole gamespy account thing. Multiplayer also lacks the sort of in game sense of community you get with BF, but I dont think that will be resolved until the put some decent player comms (VOIP) into it. And with Gamespy, I think this will be unlikely!
N3ddy
29th May 2006, 08:51 PM
@SlappY - which servers did you play on? I can't seem to sort out the damned Gamespy thing, no matter what I try!:tard:
Must admit that it's a different game altogetjer after 1.10. It was like running through teacle before, but what a difference now! Time to co-op at a LAN, methinks! :D
Ruslan74
30th May 2006, 06:59 AM
N3ddy - Gamespy requires ports 666x to be unblocked and these are usually blocked by most anti-virus software. take a peek into your AV settings and see if you can unblock those ports and try again.
or are you having credential issues to get into Gamespy?
Darnit696
30th May 2006, 08:40 AM
Now theres the thing.... VOIP is what made BF2 and it was a huge step forward... it makes the game feel more real when you can talk to your squad mates. I think without the VOIP bf2 would have been good but nothing spectacular.
Darnit696
30th May 2006, 08:46 AM
If we can use teamtalk or any other Voip software then I'm in otherwise...I dunno... it will take more convincing
SlappY
30th May 2006, 12:03 PM
Well for me it was pretty effortless. Just created a gamespy account through the games interface. Then got a server listing. Cant remember the server name though. Still not happy about not being able to specify an IP though. Does SGS have any intention of supporting this game. I see they got a Ghost Recon 1 server.
On the VOIP note. Does anyone know what sort of bandwidth XFire VOIP uses? Is it group VOIP?
Ruslan74
30th May 2006, 12:28 PM
yes, Xfire supports group VOIP and its less intensive on bandwidth than Skype. We used it during our Dawn of War meetups online.

Does it install Starforce?
And if so, does the patch remove it?
Ruslan74

Ubisoft ditched Starforce a couple of months back so only securerom protection in the game AFAIK.

Some info on the 2nd chapter (http://xbox.gamespy.com/xbox-360/tom-clancys-ghost-recon-3/712774p1.html) of the game to be available.
Chapter 2 of the co-op campaign details the Ghost team's efforts to quash the civil war by cutting off the stream of illegal weapons that is flooding the country. The first level takes place on the Coffee Plantation, where you'll have to kill an arms dealer and destroy his operations. The level offers players a ton of cover options, including rows and rows of coffee plants, as well as a number of paths to the final objective. Next up is the Shipping Port, a nighttime level that offers plenty of high ground (in the form of boats and cargo cranes) for snipers to clear out enemies from afar. Again, you'll be tasked with destroying arms shipments before extraction.

The GRAW MP Pack 1 (http://www.3dgamers.com/news/more/1096485166/) is available @ 128MB.

Hah! And we think we have problems with Ints on the BF2 servers! I spent a while on the SGS GRAW server today and it was teeming with the plonkers! Three locals, over 25 Ints! Oh, and the closest thing you can get to spawn-raping as well!
I like the idea of one shot-one kill, though, but that is a spawn-raper's wet dream too.
Back to BF2!
