Dedicated server?

Pardon me for being all dumb-like if this question has been asked and answered somewhere else (I didn't see anything useful on SGS) BUT.... Is 2142 going to have its own server, or are we going to lose a BF2 server? Admins! Front and centre!

They will probably hook it on to one of the servers that's already running CS, CS:S, HL2 DM, and BF2 - so no worries there :p

Hopefully it won't end up being as dire as TG predicts, but I'd expect we'd lose a few BF2 servers for 2142 ...

There is no word on that yet. They might pull unused servers out of other games for BF2142.

Yes, I cannot see many people left playing BF2 by January 2007. Not enough to get a game going at least. Once people start logging in and cannot get a game going due to lack of numbers, it will be completely dead pretty quickly.

Well, I must admit that I'm not likely to be play much BF2 until 2142 comes out. Bit jaded with BF2 and I need both the bandwidt AND the goodwill of the wife for the days following 2142's release.

Well while I am looking forward to BF2142 so much I think I wet myself a little everytime I think of it...I am still having a lot of fun playing BF2 and I think I will just take it one day at a time....the dynamic of the game may change a bit because a lot of guys (especially some of the newer players) won't get BF2142 until much later and will stick with bf2 while a lot of the uber leet guys from bf2 will make the move, which might make bf2142 a bit frustrating in the beginning because you can't move for being shot by guys with superior machines and pings (ok and reflexes alright). So I don't think bf2 will disappear overnight and I will probably hang around the servers for a while longer...I still don't feel I have mastered everything in the game and I hate to leave it unfinished.

And regarding the servers...I know that EA actually sponsors some of there servers at SGS (although I am not sure if any of the sponsored servers are for BF2) so SGS can't use those servers for other games. Of course its possible EA will sponsor a server for BF2142 considering the size of the community that will switch to the game if we have a decent server to run off. Also, there is always generally 2 servers for BF2 sitting idle most of the time except maybe at peak times and so I doubt we would even feel it if 2 of those servers got used for BF2142 IMO.

Hi Guys.... when new games arrive or old ones re-appear (e.g. Wolfenstein) the game gets run typically on a server carrying other games that are hardly being used. Even BF2 (44 & 32 players servers) currently shares Server space with other games.
64 player servers are dedicated to BF2.

There is budget for buying more servers. But how they are allocated is totally up to Elyzium. Even the server donated to SAIX could be used in way SAIX deem fit... however I think that one will stay dedicated to BF2 64plyr for a very long time.

Every time 2142 got postphoned, everyone grumbled and I was shouting hurrah!! In fact, if they postphone it another 6 months, I think I'll go and paint the town RED.

BF2 only had weapons upgrades, whereas 2142 has equipment upgrades; scanners, medpacks, mines, cloaks, etc. And some are passive, which will give their bearers great advantages on the battlefield. If you don't stay more or less with the pack, I have a suspicion you're going to get slaughtered, most often not even knowing where it came from. So the pressure will be on to put in the 2142 time.

Yet there is so much fun still to be gleaned from BF2, so many awards almost reached. I have this anticipated dread that I will leave BF2 with an "incomplete" feeling. :weep:

I am looking forward to 2142, but I suppose it's a timing thing for me...

Thought I was the only one feeling this way. Wondered if I'm like the dinosaurs, you know, high RC factor.
