Hey guys... just a bit of weirdness with my internet...

Every so often, I get an error when browsing the web.. Generic "The page cannot be displayed" error... Except that in the title bar, it says "res://shdoclc.dll/DNSERROR.HTM#", and this is followed by the website address...

It's quite irrrriitatting... :grr:

Just by the way, I don't use a proxy (this is at home), BUT under internet options, I keep changing it and it keeps reverting to "http://localhost:9100/proxy.pac"

Now to be honest, I have no idea what that means, but it seems to be affecting my browsing, and it eeez... IRRRIITTAATTTING!!! ;)

Pleauz give any advice..

PS: I use ZoneAlarms as my firewall, and AVG Free as my Anti-Virus.

Sounds like your browser has been hijacked.

Go to the Sysinternals website, there's an absolutely fantastic program there called Autoruns that will tell you every damn thing you need to know about what is run from where.

TIP : If the publisher is Microsoft Corporation, then you can pretty much assume that that entry is ok. Check the ones with no publisher, and just check the rest [other publishers] as well.

Here : http://www.sysinternals.com/SystemInformationUtilities.html

While you're there, also get Process Explorer, it will tell you exactly what is running right now and where it's running from [Same link .. further down].

This site is safe. Trust me.
All the attacks i've had I used tools from Sysinternals to kill em dead.

Enjoy.

"shdoclc.dll is a library used by Windows applications to add basic file and networking operations."

So far everything is fine. IE just uses that DLL for error messages such as the one you are getting.

Your Proxy entry seems to belong to Google Web Accelerator. Any chance you are using that?

Thanks Rainy... I still wish I could get rid of it though ;)

Yes I sort of do use Google Web Accl, but it's not usually on... I normally leave it off (I don't really think it helps *that* much, does it?)
