Does anyone know if FS2004 scenery will work with X?
I'm keen to try the aeroworx scenery as the default FSX scenery for joburg is the absolute pits.

The boys at Google have failed me (or MIcrosoft lie). All that I could come up with was an interview with the MS developers who said that they have received positive reports from people who have installed the 2004 scenery in FSX.
There is a chap www.fsx.co.za who wants to use some google earth terrain for photo real jhb area scenery.

I tried dumping some johannesburg scenery in the add on directory structure of FSX and I am afraid to say it worked albeit with some strange ufo in the skies
Soz can't show it - doc over a meg in size and too hot to start messing with PS

I agree. The scenery sucks BEEG TIME!! I wanted to take a buzz around TG's Place. Took off in the Bell Jetranger to have a look around.... well evidently the designers think that everyone in Jhb stays in Cell block C Agterwater Prison. The buildings all look like that... or perhaps post war Serbia...
Why the *** could'nt they just use the Google earth stuff?? Its amazing and all the work is done for them already anyway.
Someone out there with more programming type skills than me will figure out how to plug in Google scenery...Pleeezzzeee

Some enterprising blighters have managed to link FS into google earth - ie, Google Earth will plot you as you fly around in FS.
I haven't seen anything that imports GE texture data tho.

Umm ok when people use the words 'trace' and 'draw' little stick men come to mind. This is mostly because I sucked at school art classes.
Will this "polygon tracing" get the google earth scenery into FSX?

Nope - not directly.
But what Geek said earlier. Some chaps do have a GE/FSX interface but as I understand it it is only available for a small part of Alaska. I suppose someone want to make moola out of the deal

I have added the Aeroworx Johannesburg Intl Airport - no complaints.
Still have that artifact floating at about 2000' above the Jhb CBD

never thought I would be so eager to pay 20$ for GE

I'm still not eager to pay $20 for GE Pro... there are 6 Billion people on this planet (roughly at last count) Someone out there loves aircraft, can do wizardly stuff on a pc, and has the spare time to pull the Google Earth stuff into FSX... I know it I just know it.... Now just to find the dude...
Here Roger Roger...

Apparently* the latest version of Google Earth adds the polygon and path functionality to the free version, so it should now be possible to create this scenery for free.

I'm gonna try my hand at this. i've sort of figured out the polygon tool. I'm gonna see if I can do the [-]Joburg[/-] OR Tambo International airport.

There used to be a large community of SA pc-pilots supplying scenery and planes and stuff with local decals and whatnot, back when i was actively playing FS98. Wonder if they've not figured it out yet?

Wall - they have already released the terrain mesh - just waiting for updated scenery.
TG - we need to arrange to meet then - I'll have to dig it out
