View Full Version : Are product keys linked to your accounts?

The reason I am asking this, is when I started playing battlefield 2 I was using a mates serial key. Ive been in IT since the day of the Spektrum (remebers those things before the commodores?), and online 14 years, and I have never bought a single bit of software for myself (this does not include clients). I liked the game so much, I broke my software virginity and bought it.
Now I am worried that if my friend gets back into the game, that there might be a conflict. Even though I installed the whole game again with my new product key.
Anyone can put my mind at rest? I dont want to have to start over again.

Nah, you should be ok. Unless you're one of the Asault guys - then your stats get wiped :D

You should be fine. Think about it like this: Can what you did be explained in a totally legit manner? Yup -
1. You started an account, you PC and discs got stolen, so you replaced it.
2. Bought it, didn't realise it needed broadband - sold it / gave it away - you got broadband - bought another copy.
I also used a "Demo" version for a bit, and I've had no issues.

Not by us! I think You are reading Rainy wrong. The stat padding was by the Asault guys. Stat pad here and you'll be declanned. :)

Hmmm - you should be able to play happily on the same account using more than 1 product key, so that would have had nothing to do with the stats reset for the asault guys. The real issue was the stats padding (which is still in appeal). Apparently when the BF2 servers started (back in the V1.0 days) the ticket ratios were very high, so it would actually have been possible to kill a guy 167 times in a round ... not so likely anymore ...

Back in the old days King Solomon had something like 1000 wives and 700 concubines... not so likely these days either. So Toxic wants us to believe that he was the ONE like old King S. Right. Call me a sceptic. All stat padders would love us to believe that. :D
So maybe the appeal would go something like this...
"Honest there were more tickets back then and ... and... and there were more fools standing around just admiring the graphics and ... um ... and then there were just SO many noobs running around new to the game...except for me of course I was just GLORIOUS... running around killing here killing there... there was this one noob in particular that I seem to remember ... what was his name again... never mind but he just kept running up to me and stood there looking at me ... I dont know why honest ...must have been the dazzling graphics.... so I shot him ....like 167 times."

His comments do hold some water.
2005/02 : |BFC|Stoke = My first bf2 account. Score = 2197 after 116 matches = 18.9 per game.
2005/06 : McJunk = My Second BF2 account. Score = 9654 after 423 matches = 22.8 per game.
2005/11 : StokeStoke = My Current BF2 account. Score = 18964 after 671 matches = 28.2 per game.
See the trend ... in the past my per game scores were higher ... NOT :p !
But ... on that note - how does DirectorSA get a team score of 46 12 minutes into the game ?

anyway.. i know a thing or 2 about bf2 and cd-keys!
and you won't get banned/reset for having the wrong key!
you just wont able to join the servers , NOW
and you can play musical cd keys all day long... just dont stat pad!

How do you get 46 team points in a whole round!!!
I struggle to get that as a whole round score . . . Although i think the TK's have a lot to do with that.

i get spurts within the game where i get like a max of 20 points in 3 consecutive rounds and then find a tank which grants me a much higher average... being spawn raped also doesnt help at times...

The most I've every got is in the 60's.
I also want to know how you get a score of 46 regularly....
I've seen scores of 170+ in one round - how does that happen.
Even when I'm playing within a role e.g. SF, and using the C4 effectively, the score doesn't go up that dramatically, so I must be doing something wrong.
My Score tends to be a bit higher than normal if I'm commander....

ya coz the very account i use now was created when the demo came out and i never played it again after that untill now and i have a spm of like 1.7 which is PATHETIC and on bf2s it says for me to get some of the ranks it will take me untill im 160(lol at me being 160) but hey its my proper account and my Bambis-Revenge account got "Lost" and unretrievable soo i just use this one....
but what i was wondering is that what cd is this registered to if i registerd it with the demo?

Am I wrong is saying that the game CD/DVD key resides with the PC you are playing on. The key and the player login are completely seperate.
I can come visit you, and play my account on your PC. What EA checks for is 2 PCs on the system with the same key. One of you cannot play then.

I don't think they store you account details with your CD-Key details. What I think they would monitor is the number of unique PC's logging in with a single CD key and when it reaches a specific threashold they'll ban the key not the account.

..... when it reaches a specific threashold they'll ban the key not the account.
That would be the way I would do it. Threshold is 2. I've tried to use 2 pcs loaded with the same cd key on an online multiplayer, and it told me to go jump on the second one. Other than that it was fine - it didn't prevent the first one from working. I don't know what would happen, if I kept trying - maybe they would blacklist the cd key, I don't know.
Okay, so sue me for trying - EA is richer than I am....
