Those things with the xbox360 that earn MS a fat slap!

So these are my "wtfs" about the xbox 360 as i have found it so far!

Firstly is dvd playback, now here I am sitting in 720p mode with a brilliant display infront of me, nice crystal clear and all that jazz.
Plug in a dvd, and bam , the console turns to 480p mode. What for why doesnt the xbox upscale the dvd you are playing to 720p or whatever res you are running.

WMV playback is also just on the limit of giving me a hernia!
So i decide to watch Heroes on my xbox streaming from my pc!
The video size is 650x350 odd, so i tell the xbox to zoom in to my screen size which is does but every 50 pixels or so there is this horrible line, very very bad upscaling.
Then my original heores divx copy is 350megs, converting to WMV so i can play it on the xbox leaves it at 700megs! How stupid.


In the middle of game i would like to "tab out" and go to the xbox interface, how do you do this? I'm sure i've done it before but can't find the buttons to do it again.

What are the volume buttons for on the remote? they dont work in dvd playback, they dont work in wmv playback, they dont work in games, do they work on my cat?

Most dangerous button "windows media" on the remote.. push that and say cheers to your game! No warning/confirmation/anything!

you have not updated your X360 firmware yet. The download story is like months old and has been resolved via a firmware update. I presume your downloads could also take their time because of our wonderful shaped ADSL accounts, thank Telkom for that.

simply update your X360 if you havent done so. ;)

@RN65 - i would list quite a pageful of reasons to avoid a PC too. :p

it did update.. it did it when i first plugged it in.. gave me 1080p res!

even my 25 meg poker download didnt resume

Well, I would say if 50% of the games I played and will play are available for the X360 it's a lot ;)

The DVD playback wont be able to upscale to 720p as that is a HD resolution. The best it can do is run the DVD in 480P (which is progressive scan) Tis unfortunate but a limitation on the DVD technolagy.

I agree the WMV playback is horse radish. (but no worries eve M$ was smart enough to dis this carp for the zune :rofl: ) If you have windows media edition you can download a free transcoder that will play most AV files whith out the need to convert files to WMV. (thank god for small miracles)

Reason for the horrid lines was prob from the converion to WMV originally I assume

You cant "tab out" from games just bring up a blade on the side (Press the Xbox button on the control) From this you can start/stop/change volume for mp3's in game, also check on downloads etc....

I don't have a remote so I cant comment on that :p

If you want Linux on a console then wait for the P$3 :D
