How popular do you guys think BF2142 really is? Do you love 2142? When you go back to play BF2 do you think, "Aw this feels really stupid and sucky" or do you think "Hey flip I missed this, BF2 rawks"
I wanna know coz I'm not at present overly enamoured with 2142. Now this could just be because I don't like change change is for undies and socks and those mini soft serve ice-creams you get at MacDonaldsor because I'm anal or because I don't wanna have to buy a DVD drive to play the game. Naturally there is the concern that I will be pwned for many hours before achieving a higher state of 2142 consciousness. Also my tags will be in demand owing to the fact that you savages have already knifed each other stukkend. Lastly I definitely prefer fps games based in the past or present, this future stuff can irritate me. And really lastly I think I need to know if the game play is that much better than BF2, is it?
SF last nite RAWKED. I initially thought haxxors would ruin BF2 now that EA had shifted their "care and attention" to keeping 2142 clean but it is the nature of the haxxor to seek glory and it's probably more glorious to be pwning in a gloriously unbelievable way on EA's latest offering than mixing it up with me on the dusty streets of Sharqui.

2142 is great fun, but I find it a bit more 'plastic' than BF2. The load times are a lot better, but somehow it still doesn't have the same feel as BF2..
You will be pwned initially because you start off having nothing useful until you can unlock the grenades and the explosives and the pair of army boots :)
Everyone else has a 1 shot kill rifle while yours is a 22shot kill! :D (Or I suck)
SF was great fun AFTER we left the Iron Gator far behind us! I managed to get a ribbon and a badge for ground defense while trying to defend that waterfront point!

Oh.. IMHO the vehicles suck in 2142, apart from that nifty buggy!! There's an advantage there, being that more people are on foot then.

I like BF2142 Titan mode, because it is more up close and personal than BF2. Fighting in the titan corridors is great fun for me. It might be that I like change even less and are more into the UT and Quake type maps, rather than the long slogs over open ground, just to be shot by a snipper or somebody in jet/chopper.
Knifing do not happen that often actually, despite it being discussed a lot.

Yes, armor whoring is a lot less common. Motion mines sort those types out quickly. As Vortex says, a lot more people fight on foot and one can actually get a good score that way, which is nearly impossible to do on foot in BF2.

If TITAN mode did not exist I would be quite happy with 2142.
TITAN mode is too laggy and buggy and it sixxorz beeg time.
I'd wrather play BF2 / AF / SF than 2142 Titan.
BUT ... 2142 urban is kewl fun, and 2142 with the jets and stuff is also kewl fun.
It's not better then BF2, it's just different.

BF2 = take 2 steps and get blown to smithereens by air whores.
2142 = take 5 steps and engage in a blazing gun battle.
More team work in 2142 I find, especially in titan mode. You tend to see natural strategies evolve even if they arent communicated. People tend to play their roles better than in BF2.
Well thats my opinion anyways

I also found the game to have a much more "plastic" feel to it up front (probably just the sounds that are not very awe-inspiring, shoot the pistol to see), but I enjoy the slightly futuristic setting.
Being able to take a tank down with one shot is great !
I generally find the game a lot more balanced ... just the Voss at this stage is a bit of a pain !
2142 definitely encourages better teamwork.
I don't keep the DVD in the drive Drusky - just made an image and keep it loaded in a virtual drive...

BF2 Karkland is still for me one of the best games/maps ever, but having played it for so long I definitely needed a change. Strangely I prefer 2142 titan maps better than conquest, especially when there's no lag ... it's intense. A combination of urban maps with titans will be awesome. Weapons in 2142 are really bland compared to bf2.
Of course the best game ever HAS to be starcraft!

BF2 is a better game, but 2142 isn't far behind. Even though Titan mode mode is buggy as hell it is great fun, after playing many hours of titan mode, conquest mode just seems so slow and boring, hopefully all these bugs and the lag will be fixed in the next patch. EA take their time to perfect a game, just look at BF2. Also was incredibly buggy with server crashes & ctd's etc... and now on 1.41 it is nearly perfect. I was also worried about the whole future thing cause i am not particularly a fan of all that starwars shit but BF2142 is nothing like that.
I say go get it.

Without reading the whole discussion, here's where I think BF2142 is better than BF2:
- Teamwork pays off. You have to work as a team or squad in order to get somewhere in the game, especially on Titan maps, and you are rewarded for it: squad member assist points, squad leader success points etc.
- Individual accomplishments are rewarded through pins which you can get every time you qualify, not just once like ribbons and badges
- The ranks are closer together, and the requirements for certain awards have been lowered (30 kills and 50 hours for gold badges etc.)
- Titan mode is usually a lot of fun, even though it's laggy, and with good defense you can really rack up points (I got my medic badge defending the Titan)
- I do like the idea of the new unlock system, where you don't just unlock weapons but also pieces of equipment. Since you can't drag all your unlocks into a game, you have to pick, and it makes for some interesting strategies
- The spawn beacon is a neat idea, if well-placed it gives a good edge
- So far I have found most maps to be fun, because there is no uber-vehicle like the invincible and overpowered jets in Bf2, which have made me stick to the Urban servers. In 2142, even the walkers go down reasonably quick, and my initial fears of them becoming the next pwning vehicle have been proven wrong

BF2 Karkland is still for me one of the best games/maps ever
I fracking hate that map. In BF2 my favourite activity is sniping, and Karkand is just not a sniping map - more of a rushing map, you have an enemy rushing for you 90% of the time. In 2142 I actually have an incentive to try out other kits, and it's more fun than in BF2 for me.

To add to what Rainy says, I really do not understand why people play lone wolf in BF2142.
In BF2 I was also a Karkand player, but there is only so many times one can play the same map before it starts to get a bit like Counter Strike.

2142 isn't bad but 2 is still the pinnacle.
In 2142, if I'm not in a vehicle, I die within 2 ticks. But now that all the mines etc. is unlocked, not even a vehicle is safe. Teamwork does improve things somewhat, and if you do die, hopefully you can be revived. But it's averall just too deadly for my liking.
In 2, the jets are overwhelming. Now, it's easy to overcome my one objection to BF2, I just stay off the Rural maps. Oh, and I would like to see another Urban map or 3 being brought out for BF2. I also think that would generate a whole new wave of enthusiasm for BF2. Just think back when Jelly Baby was launched.

I've got to agree on the natural strategies point .. though .. i've never shied away from putting down my share of mines on karkand.
BUT ... BF2 when jets that can bomb are in the air, it's unplayable, where that does not happen in 2142. But .. urban BF2 is such a winner!

everyone complains about the jets yada yada, if a bomber is pwning you why not shoot it down? It is incredibly hard to shake of a fighter in a bomber, its like flying a Boeing.
Jets are not overpowered.

Firstly, it's not like you can just shoot a jet down. Anti-Air doesn't work on them, you really have to land a lucky shot to hit a jet. And there are only one or two jets per side available on a map, and as per Murphy's Law those are usually otherwise engaged when you need them. And these things are fast, on a map with jets you only have to try and capture a flag and before the flag is completely up, you get the crap bombed out of yourself. By the time your team's pilot gets around to actually engaging that enemy jet you already lost 5+ tickets. Yes, jets are overpowered. They are hard to kill, make it easy to get kills (for a skilled pilot) and therefore bring an imbalance into the game.

Juuuuuuuu! Boet you better go see a doctor. When a War Geek starts feeling sorry about teamkills... I dunno :hmmm:
That said your TK skillz are something to behold. Every time seemed like an accident. Even that one on Irongator, I think it was the 6th one that evening, when you emptied your clip into the back of my head... I was still thinking was that for real or... nah I musta stepped in the way... wait... nah wait... hang on... nah :psycho:
Thanks for the info guys, you all rawk.. even you Nismo, you TK`ing bastage! :D
It's pretty much what I thought BF2 is supreme, but 2142 is worth having a look at, I'll prolly wait for the price 2 drop a bit b4 buying and then create an image to run it from, thanks 4 that Bass ;)
I think I'll comandeer one of my good brutha's machines sometime for a second take. BTW tags reading WrG Drusk or WrG Druska or wotevah I'm called on their accounts don't count... on the other hand they may be viewed as limited edition stuffs... SHIRT! I never typed that!

AA works against jets, you just have to use it properly. Obviously noobs that just sit on AA shooting potshots at jets don't get anywhere, they stick out like a sore thumb on the jets hud and get bombed to smithereens. Never sit on a AA, rather just stand next to it, wait for jet to fly past and then take your shot. Sure your first shot might not get him, but after a while the pilot will get confused and make a mistake. It works. Tunguska's are even more deadly against jets, a jet cant take out a tunguska on one bombing run, and it carries A LOT of AA missiles. Sure a skilled pilot can 9/10 times avoid being shot down, but how many skilled pilots are there? not many

my point is that there are skilled players in any class/vehicle, but it seems as only those skilled in jets get flamed :/

Riddle me this, I am by no means a good player. Infact I suck. In BF2 I would get totally anahilated by jets ALL the time. To the point where I stopped playing the game cause it was just not fun. 2142 comes along, and I am happy as Larry. Even get a couple of kills myself. The game flows better, people work together, no jets to screw up the gameplay.
Put it this way. You running along merrily in BF2, a jet flies over, what happens? Everyone runs for cover, if you in a tank, you already dead. It totally destroys the game flow.
I am not flaming jets, cause if you good enough to fly and kill, then thats brilliant. But for me, it just isnt fun being someone elses cannon fodder.
Another interesting fun fact. In 2142, chances are you can pick up an aircraft pretty much anytime, they always availible, this is cause they are not omnipotent, and there are more creative ways to kill people. In BF2 there is always a big fight and queues for the aircraft. If the jets werent so powerful, why does everyone make a dash for them?

Take the Titan mode out of 2142 and, for me, it's like Saturday night in Brakpan. Dull, boring and someone is going to have to kiss your sister, so it might as well be you. Paint dries faster and with more zip and zing than the conquest aspect in 2142.
I must agree with Sabre (I have to, he has the keys to my genital cuff) about Karkand. It remains an awesome map - especially cos Rainy and his gillie-suited minions can't do their thing! :D
As for the Starcraft comment, I think it's time Mr Socket-Wrench paid a visit to Sabre's delicate bonce....

Brawler, in all the time I played BF2, I believe I shot down a jet once from the ground. I hurt many, but not enough to down them. On the other hand jets killed me a couple of hundred times. That is not a nice kill to death ratio. I killed a couple in the air, but I did not enjoy the jets in BF2, because one has to fly in a tight loop all the time, so seldom bothered. And there is no way I am going to stand in a queue while playing a game. As said above, if jets were even vaguely balance, why would people TK each other to get them. Because they know they will make so many points with the jet, that the initial -6 investment is like nothing. I do not want to flame anybody, but I want to play to have fun, not just to be somebody's punch bag.
In real life, one hit or even near hit from a surface to air missile would down any airplane, except maybe an A10. In BF2, multiple hits are needed. They promised to make it more realistic with the one 1.3x patch, but I did not notice any difference.
I think for a casual player like me, BF2142 is certainly better. While I can understand that for serious players, BF2 is better, because there are more chances to rack up serious scores.

:hmmm:
There are certain pros and cons to each.
I do however really like the pro team playing on 2142..esp the fact that as SL you should hang back and allow your team to grab the flag/silo while you remain alive. At least in 2142 you get points for this...in bf2 you kinda just look longingly at the neutralised flag and wonder if you should make a mad dash for it and at least get some points. *sigh*
Ooooh and also the quick map loading on 2142...on bf2 i get sooo bored waiting for the map to load...
i like a little bit of both now and again...:gyes: Shake the variety spice!! :D

The quick map loading times are appealing. My finger nailz wouldn't be quite this short if they'd got that right on BF2.
