This is for those who haven't done it yet, but would like to preserve their BF2142 DVD a bit longer.

There is no way to make a working mini image out of a BF2142 DVD like it was possible with BF2. If you have enough HDD space, you can however make a full working image. Here's how:

- Get Blindwrite 5 (www.blindwrite.com)
- Install and Start
- In the application menu to the left, select "Read"
- In the main window, select your source drive (the one with the BF2142 DVD)
- Select the location where to save the image
- Set profile to Automatic (if it is not set already)
- Click the "Read" button and wait for a few minutes

To mount the image, the best thing to do is to get Daemon Tools 4 (www.daemon-tools.cc), install it requires a reboot) and then mount the image into a virtual drive by right-clicking on the Daemon Tools tray icon.

That's it, from now on you can leave your original DVD on the shelf. All you need to play 2142 is the mounted image.

Thanks to Bass for the information!

StokeEdit:
If it does not work, disable your existing real DVD/CD drives, as follows:
-Right Click 'My Computer'
- click 'properties'
- click 'hardware'
- 'device manager'
- 'DVD/CD-ROM Drives'
- Choose a real [not virtual DEAMON drive], right click, choose disable.
- Choose Disable to disable the drive. [DO NOT DISABLE YOUR C: DRIVE MKAY!]
- Disable all IDE (ie, real not virtual) drives.

Thanks Rainy for posting this - I did mention how to do this when we got 2142, but just in the shoutbox I think, so the info obviously got lost & not everyone saw it. Kudos to you ! :D

Alcohol can't mount the new bw6 format (yet). :(
I'm not going to install daemon tools cuz I've got a licensed copy of Alcohol.

You might also want to try the following in Daemon Tools:

- Right-click on the tray symbol
- Select Emulation
- Check "All options ON"

Hokay .. got it.

I turned on all emulation. Dirrent work.
I made drive E: [real dvd drive] drive V: and the Deamon drive E:. Dirrent work.
I disabled me real DVD drive, leaving no other CD/DVD drives available.
It worked.

YAY.

To disable your IDE drives, right click on my computer, choose manage, expand storage, expand disk management, right click on your real DVD/CD drives, choose properties, at the bottom choose disable.

FTW !!!

Go GO GO GO !

Hmm...

Too much effort if you ask me.

Sounds like you need a 'drive hider' type proggy.

http://ww2.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_8.shtml

Look for:

Y.A.S.U
Pr0t.St0p
CureRom
SafeDisc 4 Blocker
SafeDisc 4 Hider / SD4Hide

One of those tools should work. I've listed them in the order that I would try them.

Disclaimer: I am not recommending any of those tools, I'm simply offering a list in the hopes of making lives easier. If it screws up your system, it ain't my problem.

On that note, I may give one of those tools a bash later on.
