Joystick Madness

I go spend some hard earned dolla`s on a brand spanking new joystick, spend about 25 min figuring out how to set it up correctly in battlefield2 (have never used a joystick before)

Now comes the flying part. After 2 hours of offline practice I can say I have the flying abilities of a bee that has been drinking from the fobidden fruit of the Murila tree (IE pissed).

I could fly perfectly with the mouse and keyboard (only problem was throttle control), and now I look like a spastic moth in the air. Is it ment to be this difficult?

I am using the Logitech Wingman Extreme Joystick with feedback control. Am I doing something wrong now? Or do I need to just bite the bullet and write off about another billion dolla`s worth of military hardware before I get this right?

Heh, I originally tried flying with an old Sidewinder Force Feed Back Pro (1) joystick. Gah. The looseness of the joystick completely threw me. I eventually gave up and went back to using a mouse.

Then I got myself a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro (non Force). The thing now has decent control - when it's centered it is rock solid, I've now taught myself to fly properly using this joystick. I still battle a bit with choppers tho.

Shoulda left the force feedback thingy alone. Causes more sh!t than it's worth. Maybe you should have stayed with mouse and keyboard, if that worked for you - never worked for me.

I am using a Saitek Cyborg (w/o FF), and it works fine. The jets that is... Choppers are a different ballgame.

The plane I have not started on, its the chopper I am more interested in. Does the FF make the stick more loose?

Im pondering controling the chopper with the mouse and keyboard, and just setting the throttle to the joystick.

Planes I can fly easly with the keyboard, ... however, once again throttle is a problem, will give flying a plane with joystick try.

naah ...u got it all wrong. best gear for flying is the Genius Speedwheel (with force feedback).... now you'll be sure to home in on every obstacle you could imagine not wanting to miss and the shakes from impact are much better on the Speedwheel than joystick.....

sidewinder (got FF but don't use it) 2.... I fly like a, well most of u have seen me fly (jets) not that good in multiplayer with choppers...

Just got the Logitech Extreme 3d Pro from a friend for my b-day :D Being a lefty is a bit of an issue, but not too bad. It's still going to take some getting used to. I'd use it for jets but I'll stick to mouse and keyboard for a chopper.

Well since we are on Joysticks. I have a Logitech Freedom 2.4.
Seems though that the acceleration is a little slower than the keyboard, which kinda prevents some of your more elaborate moves. Is there anyway I can crank up the sensitivity of the thing.

Should be in the game controller thing in the control panel (win xp, don't remember for the other systems)

You can use my profile (attached) - just import it into the profiler. You might need to check the path to the BF2 exe - but then again, you might not.

It will make the joystick super-sensitive for BF2. You need to keep the profiler running at all times - you DO NOT need to launch BF2 through it.

Joystick for lefties = Saitek Cyborg. Fully adjustable and adaptable for lefthanders. Logitech is too damn stupid to make anything suitable for lefties...

Bottom left of the window, shows X-Axis, Y-Axis etc. Click that, a menu appears, select Axis Properties.
