Hi guys I hope someone can help me.

I upgraded my Dad's Pc on the weekend.

Everything works fine except for the critical thing. BF2 wont install.

The pc is a 3 ghz pent 4, 1 gig ram, Ati x800gt Graphics card. 200 gig HDD.

Running Win Xp

I used the files and setting transfer wizard to transfer the files. Everything seems ok the email and all docs and crap.

I installed office ok.

Other than that there is nothing on the machine except the drivers.

The error occurs on the installshield wizard very early on.
The error message is hugely helpful it says "Failed to install Battlefield2. Retry from the beginning. "
So far I've tried.
Retrying from the beginning.
Going and regediting the registry and removing any reference to Battlefield.
Going to EA Technical helpsite.
They suggested the following which I did.

Renaming the installshield directory under /program files/common files to installshieldold.

Copying the CD contents onto the harddrive and trying an install from there.

I also tried using my Battlefield CDs but with the old man's cd key. Sme error.

Any ideas?

try copying the whole directory then install over that if it works it should install in a second coz all the files are there.

Thanks for the input Bambi.
The problem appears to be solved.
/me looks around for Murphy.
The thing is still installing, it has passed the point at which it was getting stuck.

The solution.

Me thinks that when I used the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard so kindly provided by Microsoft to lure lazy sons of a Bi.... ermm into thinking that there is an easy way of doing things I made a mistook. The Wizard transferred the registry settings that declared to the Installshield that BF2 was already installed. I used Norton SystemWorks :o to fix the registry. Usually using something like Systemworks buggers things up even further, but it seems Murphy was busy with you guys on the Battlefield. :D
