BlizzPlanet has the scoop (http://www.blizzplanet.com/news/1444/) that movie adaptations of Blizzard's hack-n-slash flavored rpg, Diablo and massively multiplayer game, World of WarCraft are currently in production. A studio called Legendary Pictures (http://www.legendarypictures.com/) (who most recently released "300") has the honors. They're also doing a remake of "Clash of the Titans" too. That's some fantasy trifecta.

Wow... will it stick though?

Asem, could be verrry cool... but Blizzard can just as well go ahead and make the movies on their own, the FMV's in their games are still some of the best Ive ever seen, imagine a whole movie like that!

It would look good ( the movie, not Noodle's pants ) but it would take a while to create such top-notch animations on our PCs... but it WOULD be loooovely.

I don't know. I'd rather they grab games with an actual storyline. I think a movie based on Thief could be awesome if the right people had to make it, and pour in the right amount of artistic license. Deus Ex, the NOLF games, Gothic or Splinter Cell are also candidates that come to mind. I could even imagine a movie based on C&C, Freelancer or the Broken Sword games. But Diablo or WoW? Not sure at all.

Nonetheless, you have to admit that the Diablo 2 storyline in particular was REALLY hectic, with the wanderer and baal and vibes. can I get a w00t for Diablo!

I can't find any rumblings of this on IMDB.com which is strange.
I was a big fan of the game (Diablo), but movies like Eragon, Dungeons and dragons (even with a master like Jeremy Irons featuring) and other medieval fantasy junkers don't do it for me, probably because i haven't seen one made (save by Peter Jackson) that pulled it off.

I'm sure fans of the games are going to love this.

Gary Whitta is tied to the project but he has two film credits to his name, both are in development.
I think it might be a couple of years (2009/2010 perhaps?) before we see these.

Personally i think that if we could only get a few good game movie out there.

Look at what happened when they started going on comic books over to movies, a lot of them were bad but a lot of good movies came out of that.

I would love to see a few good game stories taken over to movies.

But i think that BF2 might make the best series ever.

Maybe if we could get blinky to be the story telller for the uncut version.

I just hope they can continue with brining gaming into all the other entertainment industries.

Yawn - you have to be a real fan boy I guess.

The comic books have a much wider appeal just because there are so many more readers.

So we had Doom - did any one actually see that? Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy, and something about a mutant or some horror beast - name escapes me. Only Tomb Raider had some appeal and probably because of the cast.

And games from movies have generally sucked.

Leave it alone - let the gamers play games. They don't really want to see a movie about it unless they are insecure in the game they play :p

hmm I think they could probably do something pretty decent with Hitman if they really wanted to...but they'll probably stuff it up cos they can't even get the right actor to play 47... sheesh...

I actually watched Doom. It was entertaining, but that's about where it stopped. Certainly not worth watching twice or even spending too much money on.

But just imagine the stories from the rpg out there , just all the possiblities.

The problem with an RPG is the film will still be linear and always end the same way.
It's possible to shoot 3 different endings and then the film can play to the middle and end three different ways. But this style has been done to death with POV stories - it's still very cool, but nothing fun or original.

Tomb Raider was a flippen melon, and though i'm not a fan of Angelina Jolie, it's T&A that dragged in the viewers. Look at other movie versions from games that Albe mentioned (including Bloodrayne, yes, there is a movie made of that) - they generally suck, popcorn value for the gamers, not too many other people.
I wouldn't be suprised if Hitman is this crappy acted over the top action movie, with undercut gore and story. Ultimately, i feel the same as AlberRalber - keep those two domains as far away from each other as possible, they do not gel.

I think it would be pretty amazing if a decent director (please don't ask me who, I'm not a movie buff like the Blinkster! ) took the the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic games and made movies out of them, but without touching the story lines! I thought those 2 games had amazing stories, really sucked me in like few games ever did, and obviously for a Star Wars movie you'd want to stick to the light side ending... I'm pretty sure those games would make better movies than Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones ever was...

WOW Wing, now THAT i can get behind - but i would combine both games into one story, and i'd have two stories running side by side, one about the sith, and one about the Jedi, and have their storylines compliment each other, only to find out in the end, they are one in the same...
But i think if you take a step back from them, you'll notice that they are pretty linear - either darkside or lightside, that's why i would combine the two, and that's why i think it would make a good movie, because it is a good story
yeah, i'd watch that, but the star wars franchise is just fantastic - if i had to choose a director, i'd stick with someone who knows the franchise best, and that's got to be Lucas...

Man those games were awesome, especially the second one. if it wasn't for this accursed wow, i'd reinstall and play them again...
