Apologies if you saw this over on MyADSL:

Interesting little development in one of the games yesterday. There was a lot of squad chatter about how one of the players was inactive but was not being dumped by the server. The thought was that either the server admin has to kick the player or that the player had a macro running that kept him active.

This of course begs the question - do some players receive better treatment from the admins? Or are some people running macros that keep a player active. The second option is a lot more sinister in that it is quite possible that some people are not able to get into the game because a slot is being hogged or that a player id is being used by the opfor to check out the map without a need for UAVs or some interesting stats padding is happening that is time based.

Thoughts?

To name names - they were talking about Grim. It's not the first time I have heard that name and cheating mentioned in the same sentence.

I admit this is all hearsay - I have not experienced it myself - just an awful lot of noise about it.

point #1 - some admins favour other players above the rest. seen that happen and sadly nothing you can do about it or else you get banned from SGS's forums.

Powerless to intervene we are. I've never been unfairly treated though.

I don't really have the problem with people not being kicked for time violation - it happened to me and I was playing. Just as a sniper there wasn't an awful lot happening in my sector just then. I do get annoyed when I get server full messages but I wouldn't want anyone else to give up their seat for me - but if they are not using it...

The other alternative, i.e. that is being used for non-sporting purposes, is rather more concerning.

While cheating is a problem, and so's server space. I feel there's enough servers for everyone to have a go. And, yes, sometimes you don't get onto the same server as your clannies (boohoo :() But ce la vie. The Admins themselves have reserved slots. I experienced this many times. If one of the Urban servers is at 44+ players and you try to log on, you get a "All slots taken or reserved" error message. Haven't seen it in a while though.

Ah, that's what your suppossed to think. "ce la vie" is actually a kitchen spanish translitration of the Dutch " Se^, laat waai", meaning, "Hey let it rip!!!"

Lesson 1: for today - Bull**** goes further . . . ;)

The "All slots taken or reserved" error message....

It seems that the SGS servers have ther last 2 slots reserved for certain people, whether they are admins etc, I don't know. I have on multiple occassions tried to get onto a server showing 30/32 or 46/48, and I just keep getting that error. A bit unfair considering that on a few of those occassions no-one seems to have been using those last 2 slots at all.

I agree. They should open them up and just summarily kick smacktards if they want to get on.
