Yo all WrG forumites, seeing our illustrious Admin TG had a run in DoD:S and got a couple of other people interested in it i would like to attempt a meetup with all the current members who already had DoD:S for some fun on the available SGS servers.

Who would be keen in this?

The guys i know who have DoD:S thus far are :

TG
Fivel
useless

Anybody else?

Heh, you can't buy it in a store (as far as I'm aware) - You need to download it via Steam.

Your best bet is to get a copy of the GCF (cache file) from someone nearby who has it. Then it appears in your Steam games list as a 'preload' - you can then purchase it without killing your cap.

It's probably helpful if you have HL2 already installed.

was about to suggest the same as TG, it costs around R130 me thinks with todays exchange rate... and you do get more gameplay out of it than any battle pack from EA...

An update will soon be available for this Source game :

Valve announced a Day of Defeat: Source Summer 2006 Update featuring a Free Map Pack is scheduled for release on June 28 via Steam to everyone who owns a copy of the game.
The Map Pack, which arrives just before DoD: Source's 1st birthday, introduces a new gameplay style, Detonation, in two brand new missions (Jagd, Colmar). In addition to the new missions and gameplay style, the Summer 2006 Update also introduces new technical features and gameplay enhancements to Day of Defeat: Source. Some of the new gameplay enhancements - such as spawn clip adjustments, improved hit location detection, and weapon balancing - were made after reviewing the player statistics gathered since the stats feature was added to DoD: Source earlier this year.

Since its original release in the fall of last year, Valve has introduced a number of new features, missions, and enhancements for the game - following in the company's long tradition of ongoing development for its online properties. Below is a summary of the new missions and features added to Day of Defeat: Source since the initial launch:

New Missions Added:

Colmar (June 2006) -- Set in Northern France, Colmar introduces Day of Defeat's Detonation style of gameplay. Marred with cold weather conditions, Colmar's Detonation objectives drive successful teams to attack target areas in unison.

Jagd (June 2006) - Jagd challenges teams to a more advanced urban Detonation mission, one that must be completed in a limited amount of time and is therefore unforgiving to unorganized offensive attacks.

Kalt (February 2006) - The narrow city streets, wheelhouse, and center bridge on which Kalt is fought challenge Axis and Allied forces to disperse and hold multiple points. As such, surging attacks and sudden changes in momentum may be common.

Argentan (January 2006) - The first new mission introduced after the initial launch of Day of Defeat: Source is set alongside the rolling hills of a French trainway. It's hillsides and country structures provide the setting for punishing sniper and machine gunner standoffs.
Technology Updates:

Color Correction
Film grain
New Shaders:
Image-based texture blending
Light warping
Phong Shading/Rim Lighting on player models, Improved Animations Support for Bloom on DX8 level GPUs, Prop Vertex Lighting Engine Optimizations
Gameplay Enhancements:

Spawn Clip adjustments
Improved Hit location detection
Weapon balancing
Detonation Gameplay Introduced
Player Statistics
Available via Steam and at retail outlets the world over, Day of Defeat: Source is one of today's most played online action games. Players join the ranks of Axis vs. Allies battles in Western Europe at the height of the war in 1944. Players enlist in specific combat roles, ranging from scouts to sharpshooters, and are tasked, as a unit, to complete objective-based missions.

i wonder with the lack of SA servers though where would we think of playing this. :p

I do own DOD:S and I'd like to play it. Problem is I can't connect to SGS servers. My best guess is that it's cause my install is newer than SGS servers. It looks like they're not updating theirs regularly. I connected there once before though and several times now to international servers where my ping was too high to play. I know Paragon also owns it so if we manage to connect to SGS and you guys wanna play I can probably get / coerce / torture him into installing it. I don't have much hope for the SGS servers though.

TG

I can do it (well, it will be a listen server) - tho since I'm on 384 I'm not sure how many peeps I'll be able to have.

Shall we setup a date a time for this?

DOD:S is imo REALLY cool

i dont have it but i played in the DOD:S free weekend, unfortunately only on international servers with a ping of 500 but it was still seriously fun and i would love to get it and play it but there simply isnt enough support for it localy and w4ll i think ur problem is that the sgs dod server has changed to a dod:s mod server and u probably dont have the mod

i think the recoil is FAR more realistic than any other WW2 game out there

its pretty insane when u try and shoot with a mouted machine gun while running!

Yea that is really funky! I wonder when they'll make the CSS bot's work in it?

TG, how about Friday evening for 30mins or 1 hour session? dunno if you will be in BF2 though.

what do you reccomend?

TG
29th June 2006, 03:47 PM
Sounds good. I just need to find out what ports I need to open for it.

GeroW4lll
29th June 2006, 04:00 PM
Will that show up on my XFire? cause that would help with the co-ordination i'm sure

Ruslan74
29th June 2006, 04:03 PM
yes it will, just add TG's DoD server as a favourite. ;)

TG
29th June 2006, 04:04 PM
I've found the ports supposely, hope it works.

Ruslan74
29th June 2006, 11:05 PM
cool, just have to leave mine running over night due to some game update... some new maps apparently were added to the mix.

TG
30th June 2006, 05:04 AM
Yeah, quite a few updates were done. There's now a neat "film" effect while you're waiting for the game to start. Looks quite funky.

Alright - I'll set this up for tonight... say starting around 20h00 - 20h30? Keep an eye on XFire, it should indicate when I've got it running.

Any particular game settings? (I'll post what I have them currently set to when I get home from work at around ~2pm)

Ruslan74
30th June 2006, 07:37 AM
cool TG. no particular game settings that i can remember... friendly fire on for sure. :p

now i just have to remember the keys for this game too! i think VOIP is on by default....

TG
30th June 2006, 08:40 AM
Yeah - the voip is crappy in comparison to bf2 tho.
I just gotta take a look at the key config again :p

TG
30th June 2006, 10:46 AM
I've found THIS server:
http://www.game-monitor.com/GameServer/196.4.79.36:27016/-_SGS_DODSC_AGASA_LEAGUE_Server_-.html

Dunno if it will work for us tho, in case my listen server isn't viable.

Ruslan74
30th June 2006, 12:15 PM
i think its the SGS server but i couldnt connect to it a while back... seems they run some MOD(?).

TG
30th June 2006, 12:40 PM
There's another one that's listed as the MOD server.

Ruslan74
30th June 2006, 12:54 PM
oh ok... so if the one you posted is kosher then its OK to meet there?

TG
30th June 2006, 02:31 PM
Weird. I just tried to connect to that server, and couldn't. Wonder why game monitor still has it listed then?

Ok, so it will be my server tonight. The addy is thisgeek.kicks-ass.org

TG
30th June 2006, 08:21 PM

TG
1st July 2006, 11:54 AM
Well, this was a bust - the only person that showed was XEye - everybody else was still updating :(

Let's try again. Pick a day.

HINT: If you create a listen server to play on - remember to drop down your console and set sv_lan 0 - otherwise net players can't connect.

BambisRevenge
1st July 2006, 06:25 PM
I think this is the PERFECT time to try it out as im gonna download it when they give u the time to do so like last free weekend.
This means that "possibly" the whole clan could play but afaik i know the download is unfortunatly quite big especially if you dont already have other source games along with the source engine, so this could be a problem :(

this of course doesnt mean that you guys cant try before this....

If you still haven't purchased Day of Defeat: Source, you'll get a chance to play the new maps in about a week, as we'll be having a second Day of Defeat: Source Free Weekend. The second free weekend will commence at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time on July 7th, and conclude at 1:00 p.m Pacific time on July 10th. We're looking forward to seeing you all there.

Begins: 1:00 p.m. Pacific time on July 7th
Ends: 1:00 p.m Pacific time on July 10th
