A much higher res version of this trailer was on a mag disc a few months ago... I can't remember which mag tho... NAG or PCFormat, or it might have been the unofficial 360 mag (which is crap by the way, don't buy it.. rather get the official one).

i been um, out of the loop for a few months :p

it wont come to PC, but they made a new engine , ie its not bf2 reskinned, whiiich means, a PC version, or at least the next gen BF, will be alot like Bad company, or at least that is what i hope...

It's only been announced for the 360 and the PS3, there were rumours of a PC version, but that rumour also included a PSP version, so it's validity is dubious.

You should be able to get a full Hi res trailer from Gametrailers.

I'm none the wiser when it comes to the whole writing a game thing, so if you guys can answer me this. What is it that makes a game developer write a game only for one or two platforms? Surely it not too little money or something, and it would be better sales for EA to bring out BFBC in PC platform as well? Is it a ploy to push folks towards things like Xbox?

It just doesn’t make sense to me, why not do them all?

Well, it depends on the licensing agreement.

Look at the Halo games - originally only designed for the Xbox - the idea is not to get more people to buy Xboxes. Sure, Gran Turismo would have made more money if they made GT4 for PC as well, but since it's exclusively for the playstation, peeps who love the franchise are forced to buy the console. Instead of making more money from one game, they're increasing console sales, and that in turn increases overall game sales.

Does that make sense?

There is also an incredible amount of money paid to people like developers and people who think they know more than them. When developing things like this for different platforms its almost an entire re-devlopment. While you *may* be able to re-use some of the artwork the engine would most probably have to be rewritten. So most companies would target the market that would potentially give them the biggest returns. I guess EA is putting a lot of faith in the X-Box to give those returns.
PC has generally been favoured because historically most gamers have preferred the PC platform...but that trend is now shifting to consoles...which is funny cause that's where it all started...<insert fond memories of Combat on Atari console>

Historically Consoles were notoriously difficult to develop for. Playstation 3 and Wii pretty much still are. With the Xbox & 360, things are quite different - cross platform PC&360 development is quite easy, in so far as they even use the same libraries, same development tools etc - A lot of the 360's "exclusives" can be attributed to them being originally PC only titles. Look at Overlord, DiRT, Splinter Cell, Shadowrun - The PC&360 came out at the same time and it then took 4+ months of redevelopment to get it half running on the Playstation.

Besides the console tie in bonus dollars some companies get, (see GTAIV exclusive content for 360) The reason developers prefer to target consoles is stable sales. PC titles typically cost less ($50 versus $60 for new consoles) are prone to piracy and have no longevity, ie unless they're like Half-Life or Battlefield they fall off the radar in about 3 months. (Except Starcraft but that things evil!)

by comparison there's far less piracy on consoles, and the games hold "catalogue value" ie there are sustained sales - there are different tiers of console customers that will buy a game throughout it's life time. That's not just from me, that's from John Carmack.

So what you have, is largish studios with relatively niche products will develop for consoles, the big 3rd parties will do cross platform, and indy developers would stick to PC. Once again, why I love the 360 - getting those indy titles onto the 360 is now almost just a matter of - new control scheme, recompile, certify, deploy via XBLA or media. I'm loving the arcade games!

Why the different in price between PC and Xbox as far as the game titles are concerned? You talk about $50 to $60 but as everyone knows, here in sweet ol' SA where almost evveryone wants to rip you a new one, the diffference can be upto 100% for the same title!

@Stoke - if you're looking for a 360 on a contract upgrade - Games gives away vouchers with some of their upgrades, I've seen up to about R2500 - which is really useful in deferring the cost of the 360.

@Hoss - because piracy pays ;) :( We're very lucky in SA, our PC games are some of the cheapest in the world because we rip so many of them, the dealers reduce the price to entice people to stay legal. Everywhere else PC games and consoles games are more comparable, and I'm afraid it's towards the more expensive.

I must say that I'm very glad of my investment into the 360, especially now with all these uber potent hardware requiring games coming out.

@doob I've seen in the newsgroups some nzb's being posted for xbox games, it seems to me they are easy to pirate aswell; or am I wrong, cause it doesn't seem to affect the prices of the games, thats for sure?

@ TG how long do you think your 360 will remain "current" so to say, before it gets replaced because of more demanding games? Or can a person do upgrades to xbox's?

I'm asking all these questions by the way, because I'm looking in the direction of a 360, as something fun when I dont feel like my pc (I'm thinking things like FIFA, with buddies and beer, and pizza, and more beer...; or is that an insult to a 360's abilities?). Like many I grew up on nintendo (I'm not commodore old :p ) so I wouldn't mind doing that again for the more arcade type games.
although I dont see though how a person can play a first person shooter with a gamepad, but then again I've never played on a xbox or a playstation so I wouldn't know.

Just need a nice plasma tv or something, hey!

ps, I know I should maybe be asking these questions in the console forum, but they've kinda followed on from the whole BFBC thing :)

I think the 360 and PS3 will prolly be the uber duber machine for AT LEAST the next 10 years, but that's just guestimation.
I'll tell you why i think so though - marketing and expansion. They are developing for next Gen consoles like MAD and i think they can actually sustain it, that's why i think the 360 and PS3 will probably dominate the market for a hell of a while to come.

Added, at the rate technology is growing, i wouldn't be surprised if they could bring out a next gen, 8th gen, 9th gen, 10th gen console every year, but then you are going to lose market share, people can't afford to upgrade so often.
I think they'll milk the market as much as possible before the make us upgrade again.

I'm sure TG and The Doobi one can give you a more holistic answer than me though.

@Hoss - yes, you can download pirated 360 games, however you need to mod your console to play it. If you mod your console, you can forget about using it online. Ever.
