Hey chaps, dont know if this is the right thread but here goes, I'm looking for some advice:

My cellphone contract is coming up for renewal and for the very first time I have no idea what so ever what I want to get.

I'm on the vodacom weekender contract, so if I dont want to be paying in hugh sums of money I have to look at some of the medium to lower spec phones. But it just seems that the phones on offer lately on weekender are lower spec than normal. Two years ago (for eg) I got a Sharp phone (not sure of model but its treated me well) that was at the time the first, and I think only phone with a two mega pixel camera. two years later, theres only a handful of phones that have better cameras and they're just about all on the Talk contracts!

But enough waffeling for now. Here's what has caught my eye so far

HTC s710
saw the HTC touch in popular mechanics bu vodashop knows nothing about it
and maybe (big maybe) an Nseries nokia (but I've been told the software is slow and the batteries suck)

So in that kind of company, what can the wise wargeeks recommend for me?

Till later

Ciao

Well i got the N95!

Awesome phone, if the battery is an issue i guess thats it, but i havent had it flat yet! Not slow or anything like that.

I was contemplating the SE w850i before , its a nice phone , nice speed, nice package, nice features.

Sony phones are generally nice. I am also eyeballing one of the HTCs for my next upgrade.

I've got an imate kjam, which is a rebranded HTC wizard. I love it. I'd definitely buy another HTC PDA/phone.

Just don't get the HTC TyTN, in the first 3 months of owning one it was in for repairs twice for 2 months .... same problem, so much so that they'd run out of spares in the country to fix them

Strange that... I've had my TyTN since November last year and it's been an absolute pleasure... I'm actually looking at loading WM6 on it now, wish me luck!

I've got a SE w810i.. very nice apart from one silly design flaw with the camera and light (it flicks on and off.. if youre worried, look at it on the SE forums)

Otherwise its served me pretty darn well!

Thanks chaps, been away the whole weekend so haven't been able to reply. My upgrade is coming in a month from now. Hopefully there will be some good specials going on the HTC. Sabre I hope the problems you picked up with yours is not indictive of all HTC's; otherwise I'm really not sure.

the w810 seems cool, but it really seems to concentrate on music. Not a bad thing, its just that I have an iPod so.....

I'm buggered, I really dont know what to go for. Something PDA like, or rather look at slim sleek design where size counts, maybe hardcore camera (well as hardcore as a cell camera can be; its probably the function I use the most, photographing faults/layouts on pumps for later pricing); I dont know. It just seems (other than the HTC's) theres nothing grabbing me in the cellphone market lately; which has never been the case before.

I'm running with the SE 990I ... Beutiful phone , full qwerty keyboard , but still a one handed user design . Only thing it's a bit bulky ... I don't mind, also have a 2 MP camera , with flash , ... The pics of the braai was taken by it ... max size pic is 1600x 1280 I think

Very sweet ... Had no hassles with it so far and got about 144 hrs talk time on it ... battery life max 2 days when your busy

Hoss, I have the W810, and I don't use the music feature at all. It is a solid phone with good voice quality, and it is userfriendly. If I wasn't eyeballing a PDA phone for my next upgrade (i.e. HTC or iMate) I would go with Sony again.
