View Full Version : What's Changed

I've updated the forum to the latest version of the software.

To make my life easier when it comes to upgrades, I have removed the following functionality:

Quick Attachment Host - this was the form field on new thread and new reply that allowed a quick upload to imageshack. If you were using this, now you have to open a new window and load up imageshack manually. Bummer dude.

BF2 Stats icon on postbit - We've got the leaderboard on the main page. What more do we want?

Quick PM button on posts - There was a 'Quick PM' button on the bottom of a post - now you'll have to do an extra click. Just click on the poster's username, and select 'Send PM' from the dropdown menu instead.

---

Does anybody have any objections if I get rid of the 'System Information' thingy on the postbit? (The postbit is the area on a post where the poster's username, avatar, location info, rep, games owned etc are - the bit above the post itself, ie, the post header)

I can live without sysinfo. My PC is pathetic anyway, and when one day I upgrade to the meanest machine in the country, I will make sure to make an extra big post so all of you know.

There was a sysinfo?

senorblinky
4th August 2007, 12:51 PM
TG, you might not believe it, but i used those things religiously - i especially liked Saint's descriptions for his system!
Also, the battlefield knoppie was so convenient as well, now i've got to go the long way around... I also came to the forum to send PMs, and send a few people a "hardy-har-har" privately on some of their posts.

What's next, you're going to remove the rep option?! :p

Oh, by the way, i'm not complaining at all, it's just freaky that all the stuff that i liked to play with are now in that big recycle bin in the sky

TG
5th August 2007, 10:20 AM
Well, sysinfo is still there :p

And you can still play with that stuff... instead of clicking the Quick PM button, just click the username instead. Sheesh. It's not difficult! :)

Lulz.. It seems my system is still that 'shocking pink' one I built a couple of months/years back..

Hopefully I'll be getting my upgrade soon, and I can get a nice Core 2 Purple 2.4ghz with 2gigs of PRPL-2 RAM etc :p

Top Posters has been updated to a new version. Don't care what's changed :p
(For those that don't know about it, it's under Quick Links (QLinks))

PassiveVid - Converts most popular video links to embedded links. So any youtube video links, etc you post should turn into embedded video. This supports quite a lot of video sites. Just paste the link and see if it works. ;)

Google Custom Search - Yes, now you can use Google to search the site. Not sure how well it will work, but give it a bash. Click the search link at the top of a page, and you should see the field to enter the google search.

ALT+F4. Works a treat.

How would you guys like it if I installed a new (better) shoutbox.

Take a look at the attachment - only the first post is of interest. Had to print it cuz you won't be able to see the thread otherwise.

You might have noticed by now that there is a new shoutbox above the old one on the main page. You may also notice that this shoutbox follows you around the forum. Handy that, it's like a small dog that keeps trying to sniff your shoe, and no matter how many times you shoo it away with your foot, it keeps coming back, and you shoo it away some more, desperately hoping it's not going to take the opportunity and start humping your leg, just as the pretty lady (or hot guy) catches your eye.

You may customise your own chatbox by accessing your UserCP and checking Options. Somewhere down near the bottom is a small box that allows you to change the default fonts, colours, etc. You can even disable the chatbox.

On the navbar, you will notice that there is a new option called MGC Chatbox - this will allow you to open a 'full screen' (of sorts) chatbox in a seperate window. Use it or not, at your discretion.

The chatbox has a few new advanced features, among them, the ability to send private shouts to other users. You can clicky the question mark icon for a help window.

I'm still mucking about with the usergroup options, etc, so if things don't work like you think they should, then post here.

Unregistered users cannot see the chatbox (as it was with the old one), however I am utilising the 'post count' facility, so a registered user needs to have a minimum forum post count (I think 10 is default) in order to use the chatbox. Only fair, I think. It will keep the riffraff out.

i like it. at first i was like.."aaaah, I'm seeing double!" and then stoolie started chatting in both shout boxes...and I knew the world would never be so cruel as to curse us with two of him. So i knew i wasn't seeing double.

I think the functionality on it is very nice. Different is always good. A change is as good as a holiday. Yada yada yada.

I have enabled the chatbox on the search page, so it will appear for 'new posts'.

Ala stool, I have also enabled it on the ISpy page. There stool, now you can have your cake, and eat it too.

EDIT: If there are any issues, post here, and I will check them out later (this evening).

And no, Albereth, I'm not getting rid of it just yet.

I like the way the new chatbox suspends when one is not around for a bit. Would you consider doubling the scrollback size again? It still only holds half a conversation, but maybe people are just chatty to test it.

Better now?

Are you assuming I shall ever be happy. :D But much better, thanks. Also, does it do word wrapping or not? Sorry for all the questions.

Edit: OK, I see it does word wrap. Just a bit wide for me, since I forgot my ultra-wide screen monitor at home. :D

Hey, Really enjoy the new shoutbox, having a grand ol' time.
Just two things, most of us don't have wide screens, and have to scroll to the right to read ithe entire message of some longwinded posts (usually just mine )

And the fact that you can edit and change your posting colour is really KICK ASS! Can we have that enabled, i really like it since it gives you a clear delineation of posts, and adds some colour to the show. It's UBER!

And for future reference, should TG (or Rainy) decide to enable the colour (again), i call LIME! And eyewitness can use it to, but i have authoritah over LIME!

Jule moet lekker wees!

I also like the look of the new shoutbox... the only thing I'm a little concerned about is the shoutbox opening up on sub forums... I'm a pretty heavy tabs-user,at any given moment I'll probably have 10+tabs open in my firefox and if it's my first time on the site for the day the majority of them will be from catching up on the WrG site! So that is 10+ tabs each with it's own shoutbox trying desperately to update while I'm leisurely reading threads!

I really like the shoutbox in a new window of it's own, that works pretty nicely.

rainy
28th November 2007, 03:01 PM
Wingers, it shouldn't be opening on subforums anymore, only on the search and ispy pages.
