But seriously, this IC deal sounds like a pretty good bargain, only thing is I'm on study leave at them moment and only on a third of my normal salary, so big spending sprees are a bit out of the question (plus I should probably study right,can't see that happening with a shiny new 360 in the living room... :o )

You said there is some new spec 360s coming in October,right Doobi? What are the difference between them and the current ones? Cos I'm considering getting meself one for Christmas, do you think the price drop would be in effect here by then, and how much would the price drop be?

The new 360 is the Elite, tis already out here.
It basically has a bigger drive (120gig) HDMI output and the new chip inside (same thing just cooler "temp wise")

It's also black.

Also the new models (accross the board) have the newer drives, etc in them. Sposed to be more robust. And correct me if I am wrong but I believe HDMI will be a common feature soon accross the board (not sure on timing though)

Yeah that's about right. The price cut should be imminent, it's happened in all the major markets so we should get it any day now. Suspicions are that they were waiting a. For Rage, and b. For the price of the Wii to be announced, and it has.

I suspect the IC special is a means to flush the channel.

I'm not sure about the HDMI story, tis the whole reason for the elite.

Only reason it has the HDMI is push out true 1080p, The bigger drive is just to hold the bigger HD content once d/l.

AFAIK, the only changes to the lower models will be the internals getting the new chips/drives. As for HDD they stay as they are...



Tell me more of this Wii price you speak of?

On the HDMi issue, it's almost irrelevant as far as the 360 goes which is why it wasn't initially included. They added it because it was requested, but you could do 1080p on both the VGA cable and Component cables for a while.

What is relevant is that it now gives you an indication of which are the units with new thermals.
