I'm hoping to get me a new LCD before rAge. Last time I had to ask the guy across from me to move his LCD away so my giant CRT could hang over his table. I felt like the 8 guys Casper de Fries describe who installed his first TV.

What LCD's are the best for gaming? I have a tight budget, I'd like a great response time and at least 19' size. Price difference between the Samsung 20' and 22' I looked at is only about R300, so I might go for the huge one, but then I'm not sure I can afford either at almost R3000. What should I be looking out for apart form response time, what is important and what screens have you tested and liked?

Cyberdyne (http://www.cyberdyne.co.za) has the Samsung 22" for R2820 and the 20" for R2277... not bad prices I think...

I have a Benq FP202W, it's a 20" widescreen with 1680x1050 resolution. It is cheaper than the Samsungs and doesn't look as fancy, but it works very well for gaming, has bright colours and a very good viewing angle.

I got an Acer 19` (http://www.acer.co.za/acereuro/page4.do?sp=page3&dau22.oid=14992&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=23&CountryISOCtxParam=ZA&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&ctx3=-1&ctx4=South+Africa&crc=1879135442), not a days problems with it, says it's a gamers monitor with a 2ms reponse time (which is impossible) so they talking about grey to grey.

Still a nice screen though.
Also a nice make of monitors is Samsung.

I think all ms response times are measured in grey to grey. 2ms is lovely - I've played quite happily on a 6ms, though any higher and it 'smears' the bright colors too much.

BenQ has a nice range of monitors and their 22" has slightly gone up in price but still under R3k if you look around.

Another nice feature of the latest BenQ screens is that they have DVI, D-sub & HDMI inputs as well. So you could practically plug in quite a nice array of devices to it.

@vorty, Think the time is normally, black/white/black. White does take longer.

But 2ms I aint gonna complain, Tis grey/white/grey. Does make a diff though.

My Benq is stated to have 8ms response time. Works lovely in games.

Hey W4lll,

I have tested 3 of the LG LCD 19" screens
LGL1970 - 2ms
LGL1960 - 4ms
LGL1900E - 4ms

All around R 2000 to 2500 from Pinnacle.
I prefer the 19" as the 1280x1024 is a good resolution for you and your machine!
I never noticed the difference between the 2 and the 4 ms, both as smooth as my CRT
Kept the 1960 4ms one, 1900E is a bit gay and the 1970 is too silver.

Phanx a lot guys. I've looked into a lot of screens now. Samsungs are available to me at very near cost price and they're looking good. I'm looking into something with 2ms response, and trying to find high contrast and cumfy native resolution as well. Phanx for all the help. I've not bought yet, so please keep posting.

Samsungs are very good for the price. I had one of those until Carmen threw it on the floor :(. I now have an LG. It is good but cost more. I cannot say that it is better.

My Samsung was an 8ms job, the LG is 2ms. Can't tell the difference.

I'd go with Samsung if I could - but sometimes your purchasing decisions are made based on how quickly you can replace something.
