i am currently a Ranger/Necro ( Death Magic ) so its quite fun, with a pet to play with too...

I was reading an article about the secondary profession - anyway, at the top of the article it says 'You need to be ascended to do these quests' - what does it mean by ascended?

Ascending is a set of four missions in the desert area. One first has to do the three missions in any order and only then can one enter the fourth mission. This fourth mission involves fighting a copy of oneself. The computer cheats a bit (for example, has all skills at level 16), so it can be hard. But for each class, there are ways to cheat back. The reward winning is 50000 XP, so if one is not level 20 before, then one is practically always level 20 after this mission.

After you have ascended, there are quests available in the desert which you can do to change your secondary profession.

I should add on the ascending topic, there are two areas, namely the Fissure of Woe and the Underword you can only enter after you have ascended. And there is another area, often called "new underworld" which is where on is dropped off by the ascending mission, so that can also effectively only be entered by ascended characters.

I would say two are about 40 minutes each and the other one about 30 minutes. Why?

Edit: And the fourth one is nearly always less than a minute, going one way or the other.
