I am getting my copy of GW today, and I am just wondering how things work. So can someone give me the long and short of how to get into the game? I create an account, and then? Is there a compulsory training period? When and how can I join the guild? What is this searing stuff I hear about? And when the game is updating, can I safely interrupt that process and pick up later, or will it then start all over again?

Questions, questions, questions... Now I'm off to the post office. :D

right. from what i know :

1. You start off at a training gaia of what the GW world used to be before the cataclysm. Upon finishing the main quests you can migrate to the real GW world without an option to turn back should you wish. A good level to crossover to the post-searing is lvl 6-8.

2. Its easiest to start off with a Warrior and later select a 2nd class with which you can re-adjust your skill points without penalties to try out skills to your liking.

3. Once you give us your character name i can invite you to the WrG Guild. ;)

4. The game will mostly update while in the login screen, once you enter the gaming arena it will issue updates (if available) when you enter new areas.

5. Remember to use NPC characters as party members to aid you in your quests should no friendly humans be around. Players who have crossed over cannot pop back to aid you in the post-searing area.

6.Collect any items dropped which can be crafted as with a Crafting Kit you can turn them into merchandise and tradeable items, with which you can buy/craft or exchange in quests or with traders.

7. Keep any ink you find. Most specially Black ink as its one of the most valuable commodities in the game.

Anything else just ask or "whisper" to anybody that is online.

Have fun! :D

What does 'searing' mean? Is that the training period?

Oh, and on what servers do you play? Or does that not matter?

Pre-searing is the training levels, Post-searing is the world where you do most of the main game quests and storyline.

Most of us play on the EU servers, districts are only needed when you want to meet up with other fellows to do quests together.

Yay Noob thread!

1. How long does it normally take to get to "searing"
2. Where's the best place to find NPC's before searing? (I'm a Ranger)

1) Your first time round, I would say it takes from 2 days to a week to leave pre-searing. (Times after that about 4 hours, since one does not have to search for stuff.)
2) Have a look under trainers here if you mean NPC trainers:

- What do I do with the weapons and armor that were customized for me when I have better ones?

- Can I sell black dye pre-searing?

- Salvage it for armor crafting components or sell it to the merchant. If you have a rune on the armor piece, you can also salvage it with an expert salvage kit to try to get the rune back.

- No, except to other players. I would recommend holding on to it until you get post searing. Did you find one? Lucky you. There is nothing in pre-sear that is worth spending that much money on. Do not buy expensive stuff from other players pre-sear. It will only be a scam. And wait until post-sear to buy better armor.

Well, I was still pre-searing anyway. I crossed over at about 11pm, then just took a look at this fubar world and logged off at about 11:30. Will be on tonight again. This game is addictive :)

Yes, I did not know RN65 was talking about scamming until I read the other thread. When I read this thread, I was just worried that RN65 might get scammed.

I might as well have. Sold some ink for super-cheap (green and red), and bought a longbow that might have been a tad cheaper. But noone tried a real scam on me yet. Luckily I was forewarned about the black dye... :D

what is the point of the dye and stuff

besides changing the colour of stuff

gus
16th March 2006, 09:13 PM
It is to stuff it with colour.

rainy

You can mix dyes and so create your own colours. Some of these mixtures, if done right, can be worth a crapload of money, more than the things you need to mix them.

If you take (silver+yellow) + (silver+orange) it apparently makes a very good legitimate gold. It obviously costs a bit to make. :p

There are fake golds tho - go see the scams entry on the gw wiki that gkm posted somewhere.

rainy

Good gold dye goes for several platinum... That obviously calls up the scammers...

Maybe I should try. I have enough dosh from the sale of the black dye, to get the ingredients from a dye trader and go for it.

gus

These days the simple act of trying to sell a gold dye is considered a scam by many, because so many people have tried to sell fake gold dyes in the past and because it is hard to tell is the dye is correctly mixed before using it.

I think it would probably be faster to just kill some monsters for cash than trying to make money selling a gold dye. And that way you would also avoid the abuse some players might send your way on town chat.

What type of Character is the best getting WG on monday from Khalahari.net

gus

It depends on your play style. Also, most people create multiple characters. All classes as fairly balanced in terms of power.

My opinions:
Warrior: Super high armor, but can only deal limited damage. Makes first part of game easier, but last part harder.
Monk: Everybody wants you, so it is very easy to get into any group anywhere. But healing all the time is not for everybody.
Ranger: Nice ranged attack via bows and can have a pet.
Necro: Loves corpses. :D Very powerfull if lots of dead around.
Elementalist: Most damage capabilities - meteor shower - need I say more.
Mesmer: Make enemies kill themselves. Very subtle class. Good boss killer and feared in PvP. Most misunderstood class.

Another noob question: If I wanna start GW do I need the orginal game or should I just by the upcoming release?

rainy

Guild Wars and GW: Factions are different chapters. You don't have to own Guild Wars to play GW: Factions and vice versa. But you only get access to the chapters you own, so you cannot play the GW world when you only have Factions - and vice versa.
