One of you guys recommended this game to me. To my shame can't remember who it was, but I'd like to say thank you. It's a very good game with an apparently dense and immersing storyline. Will keep me busy for a while. :D

yeh, not sure if it was me (since i haven't played it yet) but I did quite a bit of reviewing on it and i'm keen to try it out. Especially the part where he insults the guy's mom by saying she ##$%# dwarf )@*#$@#s :/

anyway, keep us updated rainy !

So far, it's absolutely amazing. I played well into Act 2 last night, got really hooked. It's got some glitches and crashed once or twice on me, but I haven't installed the patch yet. The storyline is absolutely gripping, the graphics and sound/music are awesome, and while the gameplay and especially the combat system takes a bit of getting used to, after a few hours you ease into it like into your favourite pants. What like is that there is no clear line between good and evil, it's not black and white. You get to make moral decisions, but they are not cut-and-dry. It's more like chosing the lesser evil, or rather the evil you can live with.

Absolutely stunning game, certainly one of the best RPGs I have ever played.

So together with rainy's gesture and the reviews ive read, i went out and bought me a nice shiny copy of the witcher and my golly goldilocks!

It's an amazing game. Pretty much everything rainy described and what's more ... its not real time fighting, but also not completely turn based. The exact moment that you click on the target during your turn-based turn, will determine how good your parrying is.

They've also not been to PG about the language use or looks of the ladies in this one.

For the RPG fans ... its a definite must. I'm still in very very early days of the game, but it looks promising !

I am in Chapter 3 now, and it still keeps me going. You don't get too muddled up in quests and sidequests - the exact moment you think you do, you get a breakthrough and your quest log cleans up. There are a bunch of sidequests to do, and you may want to do them and also pick up as much loot as you can and sell it, because you need to up your armour and your weapons, the battles are getting tougher. What I like about the game is that trading has got a bit of a realistic touch, you can't sell anything to anyone, Traders will only accept goods that they trade with themselves. So you can't go sell food to an armorer or booze to a bookseller.

Darn, that's how I usually to all my business at exclusive books ;)

The Witcher looks very cool. I stoked it's heading to the 360.

they were right, it definitely does have a mix of Fable and Oblivion to it, except its way cooler :D

As with fable, you also have bare knuckle boxing matches which you can compete in. Looks pretty cool. I dig RPG's with lots of involved sidequests. It does the game's less important , but beautiful landscapes and sections a world of good. Much less linear running through the main quests then. Plus i dig exploring every little corner of every little map. *yes, that screwed me over during guild wars's immensely big maps*

Can't wait to get further!

awh sack, i can't stop playing this game!

I dig the ingame games, i.e. bare knuckle boxing with the locals... to score some extra cash ... as well as a poker based game called "dice" which you play with ... well ... " dice ". Also to get extra coin. I've scored about 2000 coin playing it and you need to beat better players and gain rank in the game in order to take on the big guns ... all just part of side quests.

oh.. and then there's the drinking, you can try and out drink people (beer/wine/liquor) to make them relinquish prizes or info to you more freely. But beware, the more you dop, the funnier you start walking and cant see boggerall. If you dop too much you pass out and wake up somewhere in the street with some of your money stolen. Not kief.

Gerald of Rivia is also quite the horndog too though. So far he's banged a witch, a sorceress, 4 hookers (for a quest ok?!?), a doctor, a naked green dryad ... oh and the sorceress a 2nd time. and i only just hit act 3.

I really dig this game 6-love... if you like RPG's you'll LOVE this one.

Just a kind warning, i played it on an AMD 3000+ with 1gb ddr400, 8600GT. Gfx works kief, but the game was very very slow. Then i upped my ram with another 1GB and when i opened task manager and ran the game i saw it sat at a constant 1.3GB of ram just to run the game. After that it ran smoothely and quickly.

Besides the game, the collector's box contains a soundtrack CD (worth it), a making of DVD (at least interesting), a double-sided poster map and a rather elaborate art book. Picked it up at BTGames for R400.

So, i've just started the game and I must say ... seems quite enjoyable (After I dropped it to 1024*768 and "medium" on all).
So far so good, but if it gets a lot harder, I could be moaning soon, I have not managed to kill the first bloke yet.

Voicy
10th January 2008, 11:22 AM
Which first bloke ?

Remember dude, its not turn based. You need to click at the right time to get combo moves done etc.

oh and you need to pick up a sword first before you can kill the very very first bloke.

Voicy
10th January 2008, 12:03 PM
oh the sorceror and the professor ... no, you won't be killing him just yet.

btw, its a good idea to run around with ALT in, so u can see labels of baskets/wardrobes/cabinets/doors/whatnot that you may be able to open to get cool stuff. And if you find a meteor ... KEEP it !

You mean I should have tried to kill the monster outside?
Me est confused.

Voicy
10th January 2008, 03:06 PM
Erm ... dude ... there's this huge big force field barrier in the way. You gotta run around and get the "break open walls with this skill" skill and then go back & break open a wall where Leo is standing.

Then some stuff happens and you proceed.

@ stoke why you no ask me over xfire last night i can help you want i come round tonight and so you a few things i picked up cause let me tell you the tuturials are not that good and you have to figure out a lot of stuff on your own <--- english ?

i spotted a few swear words and i got laid twice already :woot: my guy is legend :ras:

lol... only twice? I've lost count by now (and no, that doesnt include random hookers that you score @ discount coz u did them favours)

I wont tell you who i scored, coz it'll spoil the storyline a bit. But yar, Sainty... i gave stokey a few pointers over xfire last night ...

It helps alot if you run around while holding down ALT so u can see the labels of all the doors/barrels/npc's etc.

It also helps if you do help the peasants ... some are instant dialogue trades that dont even register as quests, where they can give u vital info that saves you from buying expensive books/scrolls and other times they give you cool merchandise which they see as being useless... like signatory rings that gets u into places or arb skeleton keys etc.

Keep in mind, if you have 3 meteors u can get a steel sword forged. If you get 3 blue meteors, your sword doesnt have set damage amounts, it will cause damage as per your fighting style, which is orsm! I have 3 red ones too but they seem a bit lame, so try get the blue ones. Only once have i found a green one, but then my pc crashed before i could save. When i went back it was red... S is for Sux.

Also later you will find runes(stones) i.e. earth , wind etc. These you can use to force a silver sword. Obviously 3 of the same will be better than 3 random ones... so dont sell them off.

a word of advice ... dont be too eager to complete the main quests, if you do them too quickly you wont be able to complete the sidequests.

eitherway this game is a potload of fun...

Finished the game last night. That was about 50 hours of game time at least, possibly more, I didn't keep track. And I omitted a lot of the sidequests and contracts.

This game was so damn good I almost want to play it again immediately. It is interesting to see how the decisions you make throughout the game influence the storyline and the outcome. Also this game relies more on skill selection and combat skills than it relies on equipment. You get a total of 3 different armors, and only a small selection of wepons tht can be enhanced to a certain point. You do however get a rather big skill tree, and you won't be able to develop the whole tree, you have to pick certain specialties. Also, with creative use of alchemy you can change some things in the game.

True to form, they gave the game a satisfying ending, but left enough options open to be able to make a second title. I'd be looking forward to that.

Aw come on, don't be a ponce, get the PC version man! :p

Seriously, I wonder how they are going to port the controls to the 360. If there ever was a typical Keyboard/Mouse game, it's this one...

stoke: no :p

doobiwan
28th January 2008, 06:40 PM
Uh, My current PC would struggle to play Dx10 pong, let alone anything near recent, and if I get around to building a new one, it's not even going to have a separate gfx card.

Porting should be simple enough, they just distil the game into it's core components and bind 'bash' to A, 'shoot' to B, 'equip' to X and 'shag' to Y. :p Seriously though, the answer to complexity is radial menu's, they work really well, like a PC's 1-0's.

Right, so i started watching The Witcher in all its Polska glory. Luckily it has subtitles, albeit translated by a homeless hobo, and it looks pretty flippen good for its budget. It reminds me of the original king arthur type movies.

It basically deals with how geralt became a witcher as a little kid. etc. and whatnot... Looks cool - if ure into the game.
