Why do I want to watch a geriatric Harrison Ford in what's the second worst named movie of the year (The first being "Quantum of Solace")?

I can't wait to see this movie!
Indiana Jones is my favourite action hero, ever :D (well... one of them... along with a few others. James Bond is first.. then Indy).
I don't care how old he is now... it would NOT be the same without him.
The Indy movies are classics and every boy (and girl of course) needs to see them....
*sigh* :)

'Quantum of Solace' is on the top of my wanted list. This one might just make second place.

I am sorry... but I am a hopeless Bond fan, and always will be...
BUT
Indy is a close, a VERY close second... like this close.... :D

No, Indy beats Bond in my book. Actually, i can't say that, it's a tie.
Cause let's face it, the best Indy is still "The Last Crusade" and damn, i can watch that one everyday!
Sminty
19th February 2008, 10:21 AM
Indy is way cooler than Bond. He doesn't need fancy gadgets, just give him a bullwhip and don't mess with his hat!
"You're a teacher?"
"Part time"

Dude, it sounds like your selling Sean Connery down the river.
He didn't have gadgets either. Well, in Dr No at least.
Some Jones Quotes:
[Lecturing in class]
Indiana Jones: "X" never, ever marks the spot.
Professor Henry Jones: [Examining the broken vase] Late 14th Ming Dynasty. Oh it breaks the heart.
Indiana Jones: And the head. You hit me dad.
Professor Henry Jones: I'll never forgive myself.
Indiana Jones: Don't worry I'm all right.
Professor Henry Jones: Thank God... it's fake. See you can tell with the cross sections.
Professor Henry Jones: Junior, I have tell you something.
Indiana Jones: Don't get sentimental now dad, save it until we get out of here.
Professor Henry Jones: The floor's on fire... see... AND the chair.
Street Vendor: Water?
Marcus Brody: No thank you, fish make love in it.
Indiana Jones: How did you know she was a Nazi?
Professor Henry Jones: She talks in her sleep.
Hahahahahahaha, man, Sean Connery IN Indiana Jones?! Ok, ok, Indy wins!

best moments in Indy where more visual. The most famous being the shooting the dude with the sword but my favourite was stopping a runaway cocopan and having his shoe catch fire. He jumps off stamping his foot yelling "water water", turns to face the end of the tunnel just to see a wall of water coming their way...I laughed so much I am still unsure how they got away.
Onyx
19th February 2008, 11:13 AM
Ok.... don't confuse me!
I admitted they were this close... (ag, if only you can see my fingers now...).
I prefer Indy's jokes and how he uses his whit and whip to get out of situations.
But I fell in love with Mr Bond first... I can't move him into second place... can I?
Sminty
19th February 2008, 11:40 AM
I think the big difference is [-]bong[/-] bond was different people...Indy is still Mr Ford.
rainy
19th February 2008, 11:42 AM
Yeah, but every Bond actor gave the role character and credibility. They went with the times and always managed to keep it interesting. I can't wait to see how it continues.
Sminty
19th February 2008, 11:57 AM
what spoiled 007 a bit for me was the invisible car...it was just taking things a step beyond where I was prepared to go...if you are going to introduce things like that you need to be prepared for where its going to take you.

But Bond is timeless, there's your problem. Dr No could just as easily have taken place in the early 2000s, let alone early 1960s.
Indiana was in 19voertsek! 1930 - 1940 i believed he adventured in, and i don't know, but that just gives an an extra awesome feel to it.

Die Another Day and The World Is Not Enough are two recent "bond" movies prior to the Casino Royale remake that were utter crud in my opinion. The stories weren't too horrible, but the so-called leading ladies were plain awful. Also, some of the special effects in Die Another Day were pulled out of some dorks bunghole. Usually I can overlook bad effects, but when it pulls you out of the fantasy, the sfx director should be shot.
Casino Royale redeemed the franchise, IMO.

I thought Die Another Day was the best of the Brosnan movies.

Ergh, no. It had some good scenes, yes, but that whole sequence with the hovercraft sticks out in my mind for being very obviously filmed in front of a whole bunch of fans and a blue screen.

Saw it tonight - it's flipping brilliant. There were a few plot holes here and there, but overall it was very satisfying and in true keeping to the original Indiana movies. I don't want to say anymore about it coz it will ruin the awesomeness of this movie. Definitely go see it!
I still think Raiders of The Lost Ark is the best of the series but this one comes in close second.

No, last crusade was the best in the series, don't be silly!

Erm, quantum of solace sounds sailorish...
but in this one's case, there is an actual crystal skull. I watched an old 80s documentary on it where some old lady whose dad was an archie found it at a dig.
It's quite gripping stuff actually.

Yeah, I've been reading up about these things for ages - there's a lot more interesting materiel out there if you care to look. I've read a few thesis' on them but I've lost the links. I'll let you know if I find any.

Eventually got around to seeing it on Sunday.
Annoying things - dumb woman at 4-Ways SK checking tickets and Vitality cards. Caused a long queue and was really ineffective because I refused to show mine. You want to check cards do it when the tickets are purchased. There was an odd blue light in some scenes - almost a failure at the actor/CG interface.
Cool things - actions scenes were awesome and the CG stuff was great (except where it wasn't :)) And who would have thought Cate Blanchett could do the evil person so well.

I'm getting mixed reviews about this film, and it's depressing the Carp out of me.
I should maybe just go to the movies tonight, watch this and iron man.

I have been a fan of Indy since the first movie, so I will watch this movie
regardless of the reviews.
Still need to watch Iron man and eagerly await the arrival of Quantum Solace too.

I finally got it last night. Fell asleep during the first half. Not too chuffed with it so far. It tries hard to be funny, to the point where it's not funny but ridiculous. Will revise my verdict when I am finished with it.

I think they did fine. Admittedly it is slightly childish in a few spots but if you compare it with the other Indy titles then it does just fine. Movies downfall is that its 10-20 years late....

I watched it last night too (after having it on my hard drive for the last few months). I wasn't that disappointed though. I got what I was expecting it to be - not a serious, deep thinking, mind-blowing movie, but rather relaxing fun - and tons of cobwebs.
I am glad I watched it, in the sense of "now I've seen them all".
