Ubisoft today announced that Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut, the PC port of Ubisoft Montreal's six-million selling franchise, is being delayed by a week and will now be released on April 11th. Also moving back to April 11th is the PC build of Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 editions are still due for release on March 20th). No explanation was given or offered by Ubisoft when contacted by Voodoo Extreme.

The Xbox 360 isn't immune to delays either - the remake of the classic Chessmaster, Chessmaster Live, is now due for release on April 11th, as is Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2: Legacy Edition, a version of the best-selling game that includes all previously released downloadable content.

Man... whats with delayed games (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/37359/Ubisoft-Europe-Delays-PC-Ass-Creed-Rainbow-Six-Vegas-2) lately?

I suspect that Ubisoft have generators, but they are delaying so that every one buys a console!
Its a conspiracy!!!!!!!!!!!

Tsk Tsk, you could play both of these right now and it would cost less than the Graphics card update to play either...

I've played Assassin's Creed on my 360, so it's not THAT disappointing. Still, would like to see it on the PC.

N3ddy, you biscuit, when did you get a 360?

Why have we not seen you in the console corner . . . .hmmmmmm?

N3ddy
27th March 2008, 08:36 PM
I've had a 360 for ages! I don't get much time to play anymore, so it's gonna be a while yet! This game has me convinced that playing with keyboard and mouse will not do it justice. I'm gonna get a game-pad when it comes out!

I'd personally rather a game was delayed and came out every bit as awesome as the hype and had very few bugs out of the box.
Too many releases these days are on Patch 1.5 before you even buy the game hot off the shelves!

okay N3ddy, let me get this straight, you have a 360, but you're waiting for the PC version so you can play it with a gamepad?!? Why not just stick with the 360 version?

(btw you can hook your 360 wireless controllers up to the PC, you just need to get the dongle, alternatively the wired controller is supported natively)

Anyway, I hereby order you to spend at least 1 post a day in the console forum or I'll, hmmm.....

[EDIT] N3ddy, what's your gamertag?

Also a 3rd option get the play and charge kit, it's cheaper than the dongle and the wired controller, just hook it up to th pc let it get drivers and BAM!

In answer to all you console-jockeys' questions/ requests/ threats:
1) I've finished it on the 360, and think it's best-suited to that platform. I just NEED to play it on my PC so the poor thing (which hasn't been used for games since January!) doesn't feel left out.
2) Got the dongle, wireless gamepad and gonna use that!
3) I will post a message a day in the console section for a small fee... Say $Zim 6 trillion?
4) I haven't played 360 online yet (apart from at $abre "that one time". All guys do that at some point don't they? It didn't MEAN anything!), so no mucho grandioso gamers tag yet...

Okay, so you just reeeeaaally love Assassins Creed? Fair enough. ;)

You don't have to have a gold account to benefit being on live to can still download demo's and arcade games as well as chat via voice or text.

You also Get 1 month free gold just to try it out, when you're hooked, just go to http://www.gamepointsnow.com/ it's easy.

I'd pay the Zim$6 trillion a day, but the shipping costs for the wheelbarrows might be a bit steep. How about I let you teabag Noodle twice a week instead?

I still cant see how R42 a month is a cumbersome investment....

It's not the price that worries me, I'm just too damned lazy to move stuff around! I have to lug my router out the study, down the passage, past the lounge and into the TV room! Phew! Heavy, bru! It'd also mean moving the Wii out of pride of place, and that will cause a war in my home!

Must i come and help you with the heavy lifting?
Warning - i am IT impaired, any help i offer might not add value, hell, it could even set you back an age.
Still, don't be so lazy, you're missing out on a lot!

Alternatively N3ddy, you just get a 20m network cable made up at your local PC shop. Make it 40m and run it through the roof. Cable is definitely better for HD PC->360 media streaming anyway ;)

When I'm out of my boardgame phase (which will not happen for a while, cos I have to justify the investment! ) I may do all of this... By then AC will be out on PC anyway! :p

doobiwan
28th March 2008, 07:03 PM
Why? You can play Catan and Carcassone on the 360 already (and you can play online) :p Apparently Monopoly is on its way as well ;)

N3ddy

Catan and carcassone? Pffft! Eurogames! I spit in their general direction!

So ... basic question.

Is Assassin's creed worth getting on the PC ?

My specs:

AMD athlon 3000+
2GB DDR400
8600GT 256MB ddr3 gfx

doobiwan
29th March 2008, 09:14 PM
Hmm, tough one.

A lot of AC's appeal is it's awesome environments. The gameplay is a bit repetitive and the story typically derivative. It may not been the most appealling if the rig isn't up to it.

8600GT 256MB ddr3 gfx

The 8600GT wont cut it if you want better than minimum graphical detail in the game I am afraid.

Awh what the crap dood ?!?

That's not supposed to be a sucky card :(

What? is a 8800GTX supposed to be the minimum spec card all of a sardine?

Ruslan74
30th March 2008, 10:23 PM
lol... no. The entry level 8800GT's and HD3850's are good enough to run most of the DX10 on medium to high or any DX9 on ultra-high.

doobiwan

Rule of thumb, the minimum spec for almost any game developed for 360 or PS3 is an 8800Gt or 3870.

IGN's review (http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/865/865083p1.html?RSSwhen2008-04-08_090000&RSSid=865083) of the PC version of AC is out.

As far as control goes, you can choose to play Assassin's Creed with a gamepad, but I found the mouse and keyboard to be the better option. Using the mouse buttons and WASD keys gave me more precise control, I felt, of Altair's movement as I attempted to find the best route to the tops of structures or weave my way through streets choked with innocent bystander NPCs.
The graphics, if you've looked at any of the videos for the game, are fantastic, though the requirements are fairly high. We tried the game on an older XP rig for preview and found it still ran at an acceptable framerate with some of the graphics options turned down, so it is actually playable on outdated systems. If you've got the hardware to properly power the game on max settings, you'll be treated to a gorgeous title, mixing amazing animations with strikingly realistic urban landscapes, something that adds to the allure of climbing all over everything. And whether your pounding through the countryside on horseback or slashing at enemies in battle, you'll be treated to some incredible sound effects.

While Assassin's Creed is a sandbox-style game, it doesn't possess the depth of environment of something like Stalker or GTA. Instead, it focuses primarily on its main mission structure. So while the game does deliver marvelously detailed cities and landscapes to explore, there isn't all that much to do aside from pure exploration and a few types of collectible missions. What you're left with is a repetitive side quest requirement for completing each mission, though the issue is alleviated somewhat with the PC version's new side-quests. It's not enough for someone who played the game on consoles already, but for somebody totally unfamiliar with the game, it's certainly worth playing. Even if the game does falter in spots, it still offers a unique mix of action and exploration that deserves to be experienced.

They gave it a 7.8/10.

Some more info on the game :

Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that Assassin's Creed Director's Cut for PC is now available at retailers nationwide at the MSRP of $49.99. It is rated "M” for Mature by the ESRB.
Assassin's Creed Director's Cut for PC looks to follow the success of the critically acclaimed and worldwide console hit, Assassin's Creed, which has sold more than five million copies worldwide since launch. PC players will experience four brand-new exclusive types of investigation missions, providing even more ways for players to explore the various locations of the Third Crusade. Players will assume the role of the main character, Altair, whose purpose is to stop hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict while learning the art of becoming a master assassin.

The four new investigation missions are an addition to the five original ones found in the console version; meaning, players will never have to complete the same (investigation) mission twice before moving on to assassinate their next target.

Rooftop Race Challenge: Upon meeting an informer, the player will have a set amount of time to reach a second informer. The reward for reaching the second informer on time will be information on the mission target.
Archer Stealth Assassination Challenge: The player will need to assassinate all archers, without being seen, in a certain zone to help other assassins carry out their missions.
Merchant Stand Destruction Challenge: An informer requires the player to break a set number of merchant stands. The merchants have ties to Altair's target and their activities must be stopped.
Escort Challenge: The player needs to securely escort a fellow Assassin from point A to point B.
