I watched it last night. I quite enjoyed it, it definately stays true to how the heroes were portrayed in ye olde times. And seems to follow the original poem quite closely.
I didn't realise before I had watched it that it was a cg movie, I'm actually a little disappointed there. The cg seems a little lacklustre, but overall a good movie.
What you ppl think?

Yea, it woz enjoyable, a little slow at times. The GCI lacked depth 90% of the time, except when the monster / mother of monster was in the scene, suddenly the depth was there and it seem'd real and alive and vibrant.
The dialog was mediocre to say the least, and the portrayal of the king's companion is lackluster, it really could have been spiced up.
But, enjoyable nonetheless.

I thought Beowulf was chuck norris's great great great great great great great grandfather, attacking a monster with his naked ass and teabagging him while pounding his ear drum with a stick!
Otherwise it was ok. Man you gotta love the danish vikings :D

I sort of take issue with CG (dramas? well - not comedy), as whilst they are able to do things real life actors would not be able to do (battling a monster in the middle of the ocean whilst nude, for instance), I don't feel that CGI is at a place where it can adequately portray the depth of human emotion, thus I felt all through Beowolf as if I were watching an in-game cinematic, rather than a movie.

I cannot bring myself to watch it. Although i am a huge Ray Winstone Fan, the mere sight of Angelina Jolie would lead to a visceral reaction. I'm just not a fan, that's all. But I think that in game cinematic is an accurate description.
Think bout that Neo/Agent Smith fight in the second matrix, soooo many people were bummed and disgusted with the CGI, i think we like watching real live flesh and blood people do it, because that would make the extremes they achieve THAT much cooler. Watching Neo's rubber-like form is like watching the coyote fall down that damned cliff for the umpteenth time.

The only reason for that is that the animators got a chance to animate a nude Angelina Jolie.

I 1st watched Beowulf and Grendell followed by Beowulf. I must say that the story line in Beowulf makes much more sense after watching B&G.

Meep. Meep.
The whole Beowulf thing shows that Anthony Hopkins can't act worth a damn. The CGI version was just as wooden as the real life version. Hell, it was as bad as watching that gheifest Alexander again.

I am sure that most of you do know that Anthony Hopkins was also in Alexander. I think it was just called Alexander. But, yes, it was about Alexander the Great. and I think Hopkins was supposed to be Pliny or someother Greek historian. Dunno - still sub par acting.
In line with current parliamentary terminology Blinky will be refered to as Alexander the Greaterer.

I hope you didn't misconstrue my comments as being homophobic. Or, perhaps worse, that I am a prude. I just object to having somethings shoved down my throat - okay that could lead off in totally the wrong direction....
This is a commentary about Beowulf and my opinion of Antony Hopkins lack of acting ability. His CGI character sucks but it exactly like him and to that end I brought in Alexander (a movie that could have been great but ultimately sucked).
It also had Angelina Jolie in it too. And a snake or two.

Hmmm ... Alexander ALSO had Angelina in it ... i see where you're going with this.
As for having things shoved down your throat ... what you do in your personal life is up to you, i'm not judging :p

That's probably why i haven't seen it, the last flick i saw with Angelina in it was Mr and Mrs Smith, but only because my sister wanted to. I still don't like that film. tomb raider? Slept through it, heard it was some bull sheet.
In "Taking Lives" i was rooting for the bad guy, cause she was just a bladdy weirdo.
In fact, thinking of her credentials, the only flick of hers i really enjoyed, was the bone collector, but that's only because the awesomeness of DenZEL outweighed her sorry behind.
Then again, if i ever met her in real life, i would probably be nice, because although she doesn't have ANY range as an actress (much like Nick Cage there for a long while, jeff goldblum and david caruso) i don't think she is the worst. See, if i ever met Sharon Stone in real life, she would make me famous - purely cause i would smack her in the mouth and prolly go to jail... She REALLY sucks.

Finally got around to watching this (had it for ages).
I agree with most of the sentiments (not referring to the stuff where you guys veered off topic though).
The CG was definitely lackluster. Pretty graphics, yes, but I've seen better character animation in game cut scenes :p
I honestly don't know why they didn't go the blue screen way, it's definitely doable. Look at 300.

Anthony Hopkins is an excellent actor I enjoyed him most in Meet Joe Black. I haven't liked Angelina Jolie since Pushing Tin.
You can't really blame the actor for poor animation. All the characters in that film looked odd and lifeless.
I always imagined Grendel as more of a fuzzy creature. Not goblin like as in the film. I'm thinking huge claws (Did you see that film "The 13th Warrior"?) Claws like that but real. Grendel was too much like a big Gollum.
This film was quite gory with low key visuals and predictable humour (humour needs to be unpredictable to really rock).
I suppose you have to take it in as folklore and expect gross exaggeration.

I watched this on Friday and I'm really impressed with how far CGI has come, but it's still not there.. As Alby said, the king was very lackluster.. Wooden.. Bland 'n waxy.
As for fighting the monster in the nude with no weapons.. well.. 2 words come to mind: brrrr and ballsy (Is that inappropriate?)
:roffel:
That being said I quite enjoyed the movie! The dragon was teh awesome! :)
