Midway has told Eurogamer that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament 3 will be heading here for 4th July. Or the day that Will Smith beat the aliens. That puts us a weekend ahead of the US for once, who will get the game the following Tuesday, 7th July.

Unreal Tournament 3 may sound old hat, given it appeared on PC last November and PS3 in February, but not so. Epic Games is ensuring there is some fresh content to get hold of, such as all the downloadable content bundled onto the retail disc, as well as five fresh maps, split-screen support and two more characters to do a spot of homicide with.

Given the Epic track record with Gears of War on Xbox 360, worries about performance should also be unfounded. And both PC and PS3 versions took home a solid 8/10.

There's rather a lot of stiff competition on Xbox 360, though, so does Epic think it can knock Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 off their Live Activity pedestals? "I wish," Epic boss Mark Rein told Eurogamer. "But realistically, and unfortunately, we don't have the marketing dollars behind our game that those games have.

"But I think the game is great on Xbox 360. It really rocks!"

Head over to our Xbox 360 Unreal Tournament 3 gamepage for all of our coverage to date, plus plenty more from the Rein's mouth.

So could this be better than the other gaming platform versions? Or will it die a slow death like... the other gaming platform versions?

Are they insane? That's the week straight after Battlefield. It's going to be a non-starter...

I suppose Epic want to get rid of this delayed copy ASAP considering GoW 2 is on the horizon as well? Dunno...

It has the ubiquitous "200 kills in 50 days" achivement... a.k.a. 10000 kills. Why oh why have they made this so common now?

To keep people playing.

Jup, don't even bother with UT, just get Battlefield, don't even bother asking, it's friggin awesome. If there's a game you want to get 10000 kills in, then it's BFBC.

UT 3 X360 content :

6 different mods in multiplayer
16 multiplayer support
4 player co-op via online
2 player co-op divided screen (xbox 360 exclusive)
2 new characters (xbox 360 exclusive)

Funny how the this version gets all what the PS3 version got and plus extras. Who needs a BR drive? Sony's markting bliss... lol.

The X360 version of course (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/885/885697p1.html) :

Unreal Tournament III is completely as expected: a pristinely polished package that owns old-school twitch shooting. Not only does it look ravishing, but the new vehicles and features round it out as a near faultless package. Our only main concern is that its chaotic gameplay lies on a road well trodden, and the game's prized mode – Warfare – at times feels as much laborious as it us fun. In short, that sense of déjà vu you get when you start tucking into a genre you've worn out might hit some a touch sooner than expected, and without any support for user-created mods, it's anyone's guess how long UTIII will stay in fashion.
