New Engine from Nissan: R56 000
Found a engine out a written off vehicle with 42k on the clock includes turbo: R30 000
Waiting to hear from Nissan about a re-manufactured engine. Supposedly half the cost of a new engine.....
It may be that only the head is borked. New head: R12 343 plus labour.
The engine needs to be opened up to check the full extent of the damage. The cylinder head is definitely buggered but if the pistons and bore have been damaged it is going to be new/reman/secoind hand engine.
Donations to the New Engine Fund can be made at the nearest pub.

Askari

Its a 3l 16v Td motor. None of these bladdy bakkie diesel engines shut down. There are aftermarket gadgets you can fit that will kill a engine if it starts to overheat.
I know a couple of guys, from Isuzu to Nissan to Ford/Mazda who have lost engines due to a burst water pipe or something.

Skari does you bakkie have a heat gage by any chance :p
I think it's time to import some American muscle for that puppy :D

Dude, when you driving in the dark in rush hour traffic you tend to be concentrating more on the road than the gauge. I stopped as soon as I saw the gauge wasnt normal but you dont even have seconds in situations like this.

Dude I've got the exact same one. I'm on my third turbo now! Those turbos's alone are around R16000 (dont quote me); luckily two have been under warranty. Between me and my dad we've had 8 Nissan's and the conclusion I've come to now that I'm on my third one. Fix it, sell it, and buy a Toyota

Eish, that's a nasty blow Askari - My condolences.
Referring to noodle's query ... when hoses go you can kill your engine within 1km of driving it while its overheating. (No wonder they charge you R8k to replace the hoses on a BMW)
Driving corsas are fun - I've enjoyed both mine ... A discreet observation i've made, however, is that the 2 door corsas don't function so well when they're on their roof. Try to avoid this at all costs.
Good luck with the repairs mate.
**Note to the clan: I'm glad there were no kids present when "Askari Language" was being used after the engine popped. They would've been scarred for life!

just about every engine since 1990 has some sort of coolant temp sensor plugged into the ECU, ya think they would put in some fail safes.
Gladly the 350z does, i've read a few stories about fat yanks being saved by it

@Hoss. I cant fault my Nissan. I drive it hard, long and fast over terrible roads, construction sites etc/ It is always loaded as well. It now has a 125 000KM on the clock.
The only reason it popped was a stupid water hose that was not on the radiator properly. These things cannot be foreseen......
@SSS: Im not sure whether the newer diesels like the Navara, new Hilux, new Ford etc have that cutoff but like I said before I know lots off guys who have lost engines due to a stupid water pipe problem.

Hoss duder, im trying really hard to restrain myself but its not working....
I think the gravel has something to do with corsa's not handling very well when they are lying on their roof.... add those things together and you have something that young voicy will never live down!

OMW, just saw this now. So sorry to hear of your bad news Askari
Thats like the last thing anyone could possibly need on their plate now days!
Hope you get a break and find someone who can help you with your repairs!!
And if it helps... I still think you'll look manly in a corsa :woot:

Seriosly. Did you talk to Inyoni, he looking around for a motor for you.
Hoss
11th July 2008, 07:50 AM
Inyoni is with the cops hey? The origin of this engine should be interesting! :D
Seriously I find that whole side very wasteful. All the stolen cars etc. that they find/recovery/whatever get turned into scrap, instead of being sold off for spare parts. I realise that a hugh window for corruption would open up if the cops had to go into deals with used spares people, but man scraping of motor cars is a really wasteful exercise
