I would go for the new ATI 4850 range. They kick Nvidia's arse for now.

I am waiting for a sale to go through, till then i need to plan on what gf card i am going to get !

I know rocketboy has a 8800 for sale , that is why i am asking !

8800 vs ati4850 ? there is a potential +_ R1000 difference in price ...
-R1000 for the 8800gt or + R1000 for the hd4850 ati card ....

Decisions decisions !

You will be happy with either one to be honest. They both offer currently the best bang for the buck. It boils down to a personal preference or perhaps a bundle advantage with either card?

Considering you dont really need a whoopass PSU for either card as well. :) Note that the 4850 architecture is newer than the 8800GT and its performance could improve with optimized drivers over time. Typical ATI strategy. :)

the 4850 is very good value for money... if I were planning to upgrade I'd much rather go for it.

*Edit* I see Cyberdyne has the MSI 4850 for R2274 Inc VAT, which I think is a damn good deal!

With your CPU, either GFX will be just fine. I am more inclined towards Nvidia after my recent ATi experiences weren't the greatest. But you pick what you're more comfy with.

Choose any - as long as it isn't ATI. You think getting mocked for your name is bad, it's nothing compared to having an ATI card.

Seriously - 8800GT is seriously good value for money

yea, i would also worry if i had a name like Al#$%#

Seriously - I have decided to stick with Ps3 and X-box for my HD graphics !

Way too much admin and $$$ to keep up with you guys

The PS3 runs on a glorified Nvidia 7800GTX if I recall....
