I've been getting a alarm lately when i'm busy with a game. But only during the game. So my first thought is; the 8800GT is overheating. So i open the box and boot up into a game, but the alarm is comming from one of the new Seagate hard drives. I've now installed a open box policy with a R30 desk fan and the problem is gone. But... the hard drive?
Has anyone else had this?

Interesting .. and there's no way to adjust the temperature that the alarm goes off at right!
I wonder how accurate their "measurement" is.

Get a S.M.A.R.T. testing tool or monitor and check what the harddrive says. S.M.A.R.T. is not always accurate but it can give some hints.

you sure it was the drive duder?
Make sure you have s.m.a.r.t enabled and check that, otherwise there must be some form of control software to set the temp range.
Im frinkin you is needing more fans y0!

Said hard drive crashed last night. I think the "alarm" I was hearing was actually some hardware failure. At least it's still under waranty.

Odd thing this. Punky also is having problems that we think may be related to his Hard drive. Also a new Seagate. :|

I am beginning to worry about seagate's level of quality and quality control these days...
I bought a new seagate ES2 1TB (enterprise series, so it's supposed to be the good s#@t) for our family media server... dead on arrival. Still waiting for the replacement.

So what is the good hard drives these days then? Maxtor??

Oooh hell no! Stay away from maxtor like the plague (even though they're owned by Seagate now)

Honestly I would still go with seagate. Every manufacturer has DOA's. It's just the luck of the draw.
