Community Update - 4/25/06
Attention Soldiers!
Although the 1.3 patch is still being worked on we wanted to provide a peek at what you can expect with the coming release:
NEW FEATURES
Co-op: Co-op Mode allows you to play Single Player levels on the Internet and LAN with both AI controlled bots and human players. Several new options have been created that will allow the server creator to modify how the bots behave in game.
Air dropped vehicles: Squad members can now send a request up the chain of command for a vehicle to be dropped at their location.
BUG FIXES & GAME PLAY TWEAKS
Prevented ban list from being cleared in the event of a server crash.
Fixed issue with players not properly ranking up on servers where they continuously play.
Fixed bug where friendly vehicles show up as valid targets.
Friendly Vehicle lock: Lock-on weapons do not lock on to friendly vehicles. The box with an X through it will still appear, but a lock tone will not sound and then if fired, the missile will not track the friendly target.
Keep in mind this is only a part of what 1.3 will include. Our live team is working diligently to provide the best update possible in preparation for the release of the Armored Fury booster pack!

I think dead squad leaders is a cool idea. Makes them more important alive, means taking them out will reflect in a breakdown in unit cohesion. More accuracy to real life. Also squads will have to rethink composition.

also means SL's will hang back more, because you can't rotate leader so easily

I think I would try playing commander again just for the fun of trying to kill somebody with a vehicle drop.

The SL thing : So ... it'll be worth our while to let a squad pass and kill them from behind .. then again ... that's always been a good idea.
This SL thing really changes infantry strat a lot.

The only problem I have with ALL these BF2 patches, is that after the release of each new one, the system requirements seem to get exponentially greater (ok a slight exaggeration). :(
I used to be able to play BF2 on my laptop, on medium settings. I have now uninstalled BF2 on my laptop, as I tried to play a couple of times recently, and even as commander, it is just too jerky, with settings on LOW for everything.
I hope I'm still able to play after the 1.3 release on my normal PC. :grr:

Hmm.. on second thoughts, this might actually be cool... imagine having a 64 player lan with 49 bots... lol... lotsa eeezee killz... :p
Heh, due to my line being down, XEye and I had to resort to a co-op bf2 game of sorts. It's quite a pain, but you basically start a single player game, and then the other player connects to your IP, and voila you have co-op.
We played the bots at expert level - against jets and choppers you wipe the floor with them - but we found that infantry combat against the buggers was a bit of a challenge. We ended up having quite a good time.

with the older battle field, what i would do , is get a friend around, hook my brother up, and then set the team raTIO TO LIKE 1:10 .. then set co op, crazy bots, and then its like 3 guys plus 2-5 bots vs like 50 ...
spent maaaany hours playing vietnam like that ... great fun :p

Pity tanks cannot shoot down well ... or ... you could drop them upside down :p.
But this does mean that the maps can be HUUUGE ...

btw TG how do you connect to a ip in bf2 coz i think i will try that maybe with FERAL unless the new patch comes out before
Bass
3rd May 2006, 03:30 PM
Just go to multiplayer -> connect to IP .. should do it I think ...
It will work fine if you're able to use your ONLINE accounts - but due to my line being down, we were forced to use OFFLINE accounts - no accounts server to auth against. And the problem with OFFLINE accounts is that the frikkin' CONNECT TO IP button does nothing! In that case, we had to kludge the system a bit to get it to work -- this will obviously only work in a LAN environment:
I first created a local server, XEye had his server browser open. As soon as my server loaded, it appeared in his server list.
I then killed the server, and loaded up single player. As soon as I was in the map, XEye double clicked on his browser entry, and it joined the server. Favourites doesn't work for OFFLINE accounts.
With luck, the server entry stays in the list about 3 times before it blanks out and you have to create a local server again.
There might be an easier way to do it, but this way worked.

I think that the next booster will be huge maps. Armour does like open spaces to manouvre in

BF2 has had a COOP Mod which you can D/L for a while now. Last time I tried it, it was on Version 4.
I guess they took that persons idea, and incorporated it into the std product. Something that should always of been there from the beginning as far as I'm concerned.
