So I got meself one of these babies (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/ZA/EN,CRID=2135,CONTENTID=10716)...

I must say, I'm very impressed with it. They supply you with two battery packs, so you use one, and keep the other one in the charger - the problem is that this mouse chews batteries. I've had the thing a couple of days already, and I've had to swap batteries about 4 times already. Fortunately it's quick and easy - press a button, the pack drops out the mouse, slide in the new one and you're done.

The batteries are Li-Ion - I'm just worried about how long they will last, considering how often they are being recharged.

Perhaps I should ask Dan (http://www.dansdata.com)...

I always preferred wired mice, because of the recharging issue. The MS Laser Mouse 6000 rawks. Didn't regret that purchase for a second...

I always preferred wired mice, because of the recharging issue.

Mine lasts about 6months on duracell ultra's, with the normal rechargable(GP powerbank or something) about 2 months. So it aint a pain at all:) But i suppose a Hi-DPI one would chow alot more b82rez

The G7 has logitech battery packs. Lil square things. I have to change it just about every day.

My other wireless optical was fine - I've only changed batteries once - and it's due for a change soon.

TG:

Looking at a new one meself. Either G5, or G7. A bit worried about what you say - charging everyday story ... I have a MS wireless optical, and in the year I have owned it, I have changed the batteries once, and never on the keyboard.

Would you go for the G5 instead if you could, knowing what you do now???

i used to have a wireless mouse and it gave me HUGE hell had to change batteries often and it was faulting alot AND the funniest thing was when me and feral were at a lan and we both had our wireless mouse and they conflicted with each other it was sooo funny coz as soon as i borrowes one of the hosts mice me and feral could suddenly shoot again lol then i used my wireless again and it fucked with feral again

i now have a razer CopperHead and i LOOOOOOOOOOVE it its soooooo nice i was either gonna get the copperhead or the g5 and then i chose the copperhead coz it looks WAAAY cooler and i dont really like a HUGE mouse like the logitech mice. feral now has a mx518 and he really likes that

i must say im NEVER gonna get a wireless mouse EVER again coz my wired expirences have been FAR better then that of my wireless

Of the two wireless mice (mouses?) that I've had, they've both been great.

@ Nerdy - I'm very happy with my G7 - The battery thing is not an issue - they are VERY quick to swap out. The only thing I'm concerned about is how long the batteries will last - ie, will they get memory etc. I'm not a battery fundi, so I don't know. The packs are Li-Ion. On a USB 2 connection using turbo charge, they charge in about 2 hours - otherwise they take 10 hours - which could be an issue if you use the mouse alot.
If you REALLY want to conserve power, there is a power button at the botom of the mouse - although it switches itself off after a bit of time has passed.

I got the G5 to be on the safe side... Thanks.

Awesome looking mouse. In the last 2 days, haven't really had a chance to play a decent game yet. :(

Tonight, I joined in late to a game Bass, Stoke, and Saint were playing. We had slight issues with Vortexian in a tank...proactically indestructible.... :grr:

I'll go update the Albereth thread of shame....

I wait in anticipation for a decent ROI.

in future check the mouse should have two freq. switches to avoid conflist you can normally set one mouse to "set one" and the other too "set two" or at least on a gaming mouse.. this is of course for older mice...

the wireless thing bugs me, because of the lag on the mouse, the G7 dosnt really have it at all, but other deff do, and HOnestly the way my pc is set up it is just stupid to waste an extra 400 bucks or what ever on a wireless g7 (altho if i had money i would have ;))

---AWESOME FETURE OF THE g5 the chord..... IS A CHORD !!!! its a woven niylon chord :p .. and lets not forget the g5/g7 in game sensitivy changing, usefull with tanks and turrents in bf2, and not to be forgotten .... then weight changing you can doo :p

if you get a mouse ...get a G5 or a G7, there are not any other options :p

you can so EVERYTHING a g5 can do and MORE with a copperhead and the copperhead even has, different profiles and onboard memory that lets you use it on a different computer and it will still keep its settings and profiles

@ Alb:

Well, there was a really bad smell when we were playing the other night - burning rat hair I think....:D

The mapped keys do help a lot, as you can keep your fingers on the movement keys.... I need to up my skill level at staying alive now, to benefit from this now.

The sensitivity change is neat as well. Must say, haven't noticed much difference on the lag side moving from a wireless to chorded mouse.

@Alluvium: You're right, the chord is pretty neat. Not sure how well it will age with kinks etc in it. It reminds me of the stuff they used to use on the irons, and stoves... The heat resistant chord stuff....

Thinking of joining Albereth in parting with a bit more lolli for the G15 keyboard as well.

Apparently you can't buy them anywhere. Have to wait to hear from Logitech support.

TG

@ Eyeball - Sure you can, but apparently you cannot buy them. They're definitely non-standard. I hear via the grapevine that (provided warranty is there), logitech swap out the entire mouse.

TG
14th November 2007, 06:42 AM
I heard back from support. They say I can return it to the original purchase point for exchange, or I can send them proof of purchase (ie, photo of device with a piece of paper with incident ref number on it).

Since a) I don't have the receipt anymore, and b) I doubt the shop I got it from will have stock, I did the photo thingy. Let's see what happens.

I thank you for the information provided. Please note that the Logitech G7 Laser Cordless Mouse is an end of life product and no longer available for replacement or for sale. However, I will be glad to ship you the Logitech MX Revolution Mouse as replacement, free of cost.

If you can get a free Logitec MX evolution, pretty sure others can as well ...

TG
14th November 2007, 05:07 PM
Eye - sure go ahead.

Stoke - the battery did it to itself. For some reason it started getting really hot during the charge process, and then swelled up and split the casing. I just helped it along cuz I was curious :p

It also helps that I can prove that I own the device. :p

I must say tho, beegups to Logitech support.

So I got my MX Revolution today (It was stuck in customs, typical).

Very cool. I'm still getting used to it. One of the funky features that I like.. with the press of a button, I can change the scroll wheel from smooth scroll to clicky scroll.

Noodle
13th December 2007, 05:49 PM
tg I have the same mouse love it to bits.

It wont take long to change the middle mouse clicky/smooth change You lose normal middle mouse functionality with it. I just set it to change auto if the whell goes past a certain speed.

TG
13th December 2007, 06:34 PM
I've just moved the normal middle click thingy to the stupid 'search' button.

Noodle

That button is reserved for key mapping 9, for me BF2 ;)

Think Off all the stuff you can bind to the mouse for wow :D

I used the scroll back button (one of the thumb ones) to run in wow, press it once no need to hold down 2 buttons or waist a key on the keyboard ;)

TG , the Batteries of your Revolution, does it last long enough ?
what sorta DPI is it running at ? can you also change it on the go ?
or should I go for the G9 ?

I checked em both , the G9 is 3200DPI but the MX doesn't say ?
is this really important the DPI ..

I want to order a mouse today , just depends on witch one

Help me choose ....

(PS.) I'm bumping this thread cause my right mouse button is busted on my G7 and I blame WOW :p

Eye get the revolution. It's battery last for a long time (you cant change it) but it has a meter on the mouse so you can see when you running low then at the end of that play session leave it to charge ;)

The MX revolution has internal, non-replaceable batteries. They last a couple of days, depending on usage. My only problem is that I need to remember to place it on its cradle to charge it every now and then. Nothing more inconvenient than having the battery die on you while you're using it. Then you have to wait for it to charge. That's a negative point. On the plus side, it doesn't take too long to charge to full capacity.

I have no clue what DPI it's running at, and it is not adjustable on the fly, or off the fly. :p I do miss that functionality.

Other than those two minor issues, it's a nice mouse. It's very comfortable, and I haven't had any problems with it yet.

Noodle
21st April 2008, 11:42 AM
tg you can adjust it's sensitivity via the software, use the game detection in the software and you can change it per a game and use the acceleration to change it.

SO if the mouse is slow it drops the sensitivity sweet for sniping then bumps it up when the mouse moves faster for normal play :D

Unless you play wow then who cares really ;)

You know those 3 little lights down the side show you how much battery you have left so you can charge it when it's low apposed to empty.... tsk tsk

There is a mouse review in the latest PC Format, and if I am not mistaken I think the G7 came out with a Gold if that helps any.

Not sure I am going to spend R900.00 on a mouse, though. It's called "scale of economy", and I don't scale to breaking R900 micii & replacing them :D

Yeah I know, it's an awesome mouse the G7 , but the right mouse button does not work anymore , you can't buy new ones anymore , been replaced by the g9

I've mailed logitech to find out if I can get it repaired. but it looks like they will exchange it , but alas , I don't have my proof of purchase anymore and it's about 2 yrs old ... have to see what they say about that :violin: :blackeye:

worst case is, Throw it away and get a new mouse (MX revolution)

Technically speaking they should be able to scan the barcode (If one still exists) & verify from whence it came, and when. That is, technically speaking.

I stand corrected regarding the G7...it was the G9 in the PC Format that attained Gold status :D

If you do not have the receipt for the device, then you need to send us the picture clearly showing the mouse in such a state, that it cannot be reused by anyone with the reference number [enter ref no ] written on a sheet of paper and kept next to the destroyed device.

Please make sure you do no hurt yourself physically during this process.
