Some nice info of these appealing news :
THQ Inc. and internal development studio Relic Entertainment today announced that the second expansion pack in the Dawn of War franchise, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -- Dark Crusade, is currently in development. The game will feature two new playable races, the Tau Empire and the Necrons, bringing the number of totally unique races to an unprecedented seven. The game is expected to release in fall 2006.
In addition to the two new playable races, Dark Crusade will feature an all-new single player campaign centering on the conquest of a "meta-map," with each territory captured giving tangible rewards to the occupying force. A greatly expanded multiplayer component and a completely unique economy model for the Necrons will present gamers with the most compelling Dawn of War game to-date.
"With Dark Crusade we have taken a very different and exciting route with the single player game, allowing the player to conquer the globe as any of the seven unique playable races," said Ron Moravek, vice president THQ, general manager Relic Entertainment. "The Dawn of War franchise has become synonymous with innovation and attention to detail and we have drawn on the extensive knowledge base that Games Workshop's exhaustive universe provides us with to bring classic Tau and Necron combatants to the battlefield on Kronos."
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War -- Dark Crusade is set in Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe, where armies of futuristic warriors, fighting machines and hordes of implacable aliens wage constant war.

i liked this part of the E3 preview (http://pc.ign.com/articles/706/706477p1.html) from IGN.
Aside from the new factions added to the expansion, Relic is also pushing a whole new style of campaign to the front. Instead of offering a linear level and story progression, the campaign will be set on the planet of Kronos. Following the events in Winter Assault, the Necrons decided to drop in on this planet and get up to no good. The Eldar followed shortly thereafter to try and stop the Necron at whatever cost and the Space Marines followed to keep tabs on the Eldar. Then of course the Chaos forces smelled blood and joined in the fight to gather more power and Tau entered into the picture to bring the Greater Good to this wayward planet. Finally the Orks showed up simply because they didn't want to be left out of the fight. Players will have the option to play through the campaign as any one of these factions and vie for control of the planet.
lovely... all 7 races battling it out on one planet!

By the looks of things (Just what I get from the video), the Monolith will be the "fortress" that you'll be able to upgrade and finally take on the road with you ala Starcraft Human buildings.
I'm thinking maybe the Tau won't have, they rather have an Uber elite unit, like the new vespids. There's too many hammerheads in the video for that to be it. Fitting the theme would be an uber "suit", so maybe an uprated broadside or something.

i think the map on a 8 free-for-all would be too small for each race!
place a Baneblade, Monolith, and the other uber units in the middle to slug it out!

I don't know if anybody knows, but you can make your own heros like in The Battle for Middle Earth 2 (which WAS a good game, contrary to my friends' opinion). Pretty cool; your own custom hero:rolleyes: *daydreams for a bit* mmmmmmmm...

Apparently the 'expansion' can actually be played stand alone, you just don't have access to all the races in Multiplayer. That's really cool considering it's only R165, more games should do that, like 2142 ;) . . .
