Playing off in the Hitler era, showing the attempts that were made on his life. The whole movie is filled with Americans (barely a German in site), which I found quite hilarious. Not my cup of tea, but Gala enjoyed to see the war heroes & how they stood by what they believed in. Tom Cruise's acting was non-existant.

Well, i mean, if you know your history, this movie is not really going to have you all tense.
I still have to see it, since Tom Cruise is wearing an eyepatch... yes, that is the reason i want to see it. that, and the fact that one moer of a budget has been gooid into this thing for scenery, costumes et al. So i will watch it because i hope it's at least pretty.

I saw the trailers and thought 'come on, not another movie about Stauffenberg'. Then I saw it was Tom Cruise playing and knew with absolute certainty that I would give it a skip.
Anyone who doesn't know the story should rather read these two articles on Wikipedia:
Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claus_Schenk_Graf_von_Stauffenberg)
The Plot of July 20, 1944 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/20_July_plot)

Love him or hate him, Cruise is an awesome actor. Admittedly, his religion makes him a nutbag, and he made a couple of poor film choice in the past, let's say 7 years, but after seeing him as Les Grossman in Tropic Thunder, the man just totally redeemed himself.
Yes, he is as mad as a hatter, but he still loves his family and he is good at his job. There just is no argument there.

I wouldn't call him awesome. He's capable at best. Always reminds me a bit of Colin Farrel - ambitioned and apt, but always somewhat overzealous and not genuine. I don't care so much about his religion. John Travolta is also a Scientologist but I have tons of respect for him and his acting. Plus the man owns a 707, which just makes him that much cooler.

John Travolta doesn't go around jumping on couches...
I suppose Cruise has just had some bad PR the past couple of years.

I tend to enjoy WWII era movies but when I saw the blurb for this one I changed channels and watched CBeebee. Cruise's bad PR is on Cruise-control from his own behaviour and is fully justified. He has done a few good movies but he'll never be in the class of Eastwood, Connery, Hackman, Nicholson, de Niro, et al. Even Mr. Saturday Night Live is pegged far above him.
And he was a total smacktard for passing up on Penelope Cruz (what a fox!). The man should have been shot to preserve the gene(cess)pool.

When you say Mr Saturday Night Live - do you mean Mr Saturday Night?
Guys, i am not a Cruise fan, but you have to admit, the oke has a couple of serious notches in his belt, he is a good, able (and if not awesome then at least VERY cool) actor.
I respect the man deeply, but, i repeat, i am not a fan.

I would respect him if he was deeper than 6". Sorry, just can't like someone who expects the world to fawn over him and give him 7 figure paychecks because of an oh-so-80's cheesy smile, even if retro is supposed to chic.
Edit: I meant it about Carson! Tje-POW!

Ok, you get a point for using Tje-POW! (and using it correctly, i might add :D )

tom cruise is utterly useless.
He cant really act, he was just lucky to get certain roles that fitted his character(which is always similar)
Blinky you fanboi!!!!

yes Ga55ie, you've used Tje-POW! in the *burned* sense. Very good!
The second man to climb everest after Sir Edmund Hillary said "If it's a shame to be the second man up everest, i will gladly live with that shame"
I would happily be an actor as bad as Tom Cruise.

But you are. Just not paid to be so. Tje-Pow???
senorblinky
25th February 2009, 01:12 PM
i can take that as a compliment or a burn.
If it was a burn, then you would used the Tje-POW! correctly.
If it was a compliment, then you used the Tje-POW! semi correctly (as it is supposed to be used as a sign of excitement)
I am going to take it as a compliment, because i know you are not a bitter cynioc, but a flowery people pleaser... :D
