have quite a few people with this keyboard and they like it... though the learning curve is long at times to get used to the keys.
one drag about it IMO is that the specific key sets for various games cost as much as the game itself!

ZBoards are lovely !!!! They take a little bit of getting used to as the movement keys are larger, so the spacing is obviously different.
Once one has gotten used to it, there is no going back though !!! The keys are better spaced, so one's fingers aren't all crunched up.
... and one doesn't have to get all the other keysets - just the starter kit which comes with a standard and gaming keyset !
Have a look here too ... http://www.frontosa.co.za/html/zboard/zboard.htm

and i normaly judge to buy a computer periphrial based on its looks performance also comes into consideration like why i bought a copperhead instead of a g5 mouse.
hey btw would any of you guys that are buying new keyboards or have a spare one mind mailing it to me or dropping ot off if yuo live in cpt.... :)

That optimus keyboard looks good. I think it beats the Zboard if it gets support for games. Your keyboad will autoconfigure to show the keys that are going to be used as the game starts... at least that is how it should work. Changing keysets with the zboard sounds like pain in the ***. Me likes the Optimus BUT I will wait and see how it is received, cause if it isnt then you have a really larney keyboard with 108 tiny LCD screens waiting to pop their transistors when you drop your coffee during an arty strike.. Thats my take on things... RN feel free to edyukate me about any misconceptions.
Hmmm I think I will try and contact those Optimus guys with my list of questions.

I don't know any more about the Optimus than anyone else who has seen the website. I think it's a spiffy idea, especially since I am used to a German keyboard layout and it's hard to get hold of those keyboards here. Being able to change keyboard layouts with the k/b actually showing the current layout sounds very appealing to me. I am not sure about the autoconfig, that might require a little more fiddling. But it might work like a joystick, with a software and profiles that you load up. But I will also wait for the first reviews and the pricing before I decide.

I sent this email to the chaps that have designed the Optimus.
"Hi there,
I have seen your Optimus keyboard on your website. I have a few questions that are not answered by your FAQ.
I am a keen first person shooter gamer. Battlefield 2 is the game of the moment and I look forward to Quake Wars: Enemy Territory. How will the keyboard configure for the game played?
I hope that you will have integrated support form the software developers for your keyboard. As the game starts the board should reconfigure it self to show the correct keys. Actually this should happen for any software, Question: Is this how it will work?
How robust is the keyboard? I do not abuse my keyboard knowingly like the CounterStrike kiddies do, but in the heat of battle I might press on the keys a little harder than intended, will the keyboard stand up to abuse of this sort?
Lastly, once I accidently spilt some coffee on my keyboard while playing, Obviously it occured while I was a sniper waiting in my hiding place for a victim to come past, the enemy commander put down artillery on my position. The explosion nearly made me jump out of my skin. I now turn my sound down a bit when playing sniper. My current keyboard stood up to a little coffee on it, I merely removed the keys, cleaned up and put everything back together. So my question. Can the keyboard stand up to a little coffee without ceasing to function totally? Is it possible to get replacment keys should something happen to one of them and the LCD ceses to function?
Regards from South Africa"

Very nice Darnit !
Changing keysets in the ZBoard is about a 3 second operation - unclip side clip, fold keyset, put in new keyset, clip in.
OK ... maybe I exaggerated a bit ... 5 seconds .. :D

Why buy extra keysets for Z-board? It comes loaded with pre programmed key layouts for plenty of games.
Just slot in the supplied gaming keyset, choose your game and walah!
