View Full Version : |WrG| Tag Changer or How do I prevent peeps from using my clan tag?

The simplest solution is to use alternate logins. That way, each user can have their own desktop settings etc. The problem with Battlefield 2 is that the name prefix is associated with your Windows login, not with your Battlefield 2 profile, so you can have as many BF2 accounts as you like, but they will all share the same tag.
If you create an alternate Windows user, their settings will be kept seperate from yours.
Another solution is to get them to join the clan. But then they have to take part!
But wait! There's more!
We have the War Geeks Tag Changer!
With my first foray into VB.NET, I have created this masterpiece for your use.
It comes with... bugs (most likely there's something that doesn't work as it should do), and you get to install the .NET Framework 2.0 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en)!
Free! Yes, all this, FREE!
Anyway, there it is. Use it, don't use it.
Let me know if there is anything weird - shouldn't be. I tested it for, like, 5 minutes, man.
Quick run-down on how to use it:
Run it.
Type your desired tag.
Hit save.
It will remember the last ~4 tags that you've used (and no, I haven't built in any functionality to clear the list, so don't put in anything obscene that your dad or mom might object to).
EDIT: I forgot to mention - if you want to blank out the tag, just backspace the tag in the text box so that it's empty, and save that. The text will change to <No Tag> (You can also use that as a tag, and it will blank it.)

No, not at all. It's useful to know this tho.
I really don't like the way things are headed with Microsoft trying to chain up the end user. The things they are going to do with Vista are quite scarey.

Nope, not at all.
It's been in the works for awhile now :)
I've only just recently gotten my lazy ass into writing the damn prog. Your boet was just a coincidence - and seriously, it's no biggie. We were just wondering who he was.

Btw - please give me feedback for this prog. Let me know if it works for you (or not). I'm not a particularly good programmer, so if you think the program sucks, you're probably right.
And feel free to pass it around, it's not exclusive or anything.

That's my point!
It's my first VB project (ever) so from another (qualified) programmer's view, it's equivalent to a child drawing with crayons! :wow:

Me don't care what the code looks or smells like as long as it works.
And ... why devalue an awesome effort ?
/me looks at Pios and says : No insult intended dude.

@Stoke:
I think you mis interpret my offer for help as a insult, All it is mean to be is exactly that a offer of help. Hey, if we learn something along the way bonus.
The effort is admirable, and I agree done quite well, All i attempted to do was add a little value to it. If this is so wrong then so be it.
Since I wrote code for a living All i though was hey here is a dude trying to do something cool, why not give my input from what I learned along the way. Maybe it can be as fool proof as we can make it.
Then again ...

@Pios - no worries. Your offer to help is appreciated, and you have helped.
Since I'm a complete self-taught noob when it comes to programming, I'm pretty sure I do things "the wrong way" from time to time - or at least, I may do things that are different from the norm -- but at least it works. Mostly. ;)
I will gladly take constructive criticism - whether I will learn from it is another story. ;)

TG the most important inovaters ever in software were like you say
self-taught noob 's.
Shaun Fanning who wrote napster and thereby invented p2p networking droped out of college before they could teach him to program. If he hadn't he'd have followed the norm he would never evenhave thought it posible. I've read an article where many experianced programmers said no group of people, no experianced programmer and no college educated programmer could ever have invented p2p and wrote napster, because they were used to the norm. Sometimes in programming a noob's fresh perspective is the only thing that will ever solve the problem. So don't ever appologize for that. You might end up making the world a better / different place.
