Ok so now that i have to get a personal adsl line.. i've decided 384k, fine!

now the ISP side

At the moment i use about 10 gigs...cause thats whats available...
10 gigs would be nice.. but 6 to 8 would probably cover my needs!

So so far i see that we have..

1.Imagine Freestyle 5000, R300 for 5 gigs and then R6/100MB = R6/100MB
2.Web africa 3 gig for R199 .. dont see a recharge option! =R6.63 /100MB
3.Telkominternet 3 gig for R249 seems you can push these to about 8 gigs= R8.30/100MB to R3.10/MB
4.Telkominternet 4 gig for R269 dunno how well u can push these! =R 6.75/100MB to ???
5.Saol 10 gig for R500 with topup at R7/100MB = R5/100MB

Tough one.

I'm a big fan of Web Africa, they're doing IS ADSL accounts now as well. But if you're going over 3Gb, what's the usage? Local gaming, international gaming, downloads, p2p?

Openweb's Proxy service is also a nice option.

Whats that ISP that charges different amounts depending on your line speed... for a 192 line u pay (I think) R100 for 3 gigs... donno about the other line speeds.

Edit. oh its R165 for 192 and 198 for 384... but the restrictions suck, so forget i said anything.

Seriously ... make teklom your ISP ... you get a minimum of 8GB off of a 3GB line.
The 4GB option does not provide more than 4GB.
Then top up with SAOL pay as you use [which you can carry over to next month's end limit]

i cant seem to find this "saol topup as you use" well not as some seperate account thing

Apologies SSS:
http://www.nexusinteractive.co.za/intaccess.php : R80 per GB carried over.

I've emailed them and asked them if it's an IS or SAIX based link.
[I mailed about 4 others as well ... awaiting speedy response ... NOT ! LOL]
I don't get why they can not just explain their offerings properly on their websites.

I got a reply from x-dsl :

They supply non-carryover SAIX based ASL in 1GB portions:
0 - R71.82 incl for 1GB SAIX shaped.
1 - Phone x-dsl and request 1GB.
2 - Fax/Email through "permission to debit my account" form.
3 - Receive login + password.
4 - Use it.

Not really great. Cheapest though. Must include some R15 debit order fee's. Bleugh.
Still waiting response from nexus.

Howz this : http://www.openweb.co.za/newsite/ : 1Gb + 10Gb local for R121 a month.
Now ... if the 1GB was calculated on actual international usage only ... nope - it's 1GB -> Capped -> 10 GB Local access extra.

Bleugh ... IS network only.

[edit : WebAfrica will be offeringFIXED IP ADDRESSES soon : 196.220.32.0 - 196.220.63.255 [ http://www.webafrica.co.za/news/afrinic_ip_allocation.html ]]

Dude, if you want a bit of PAYG go to Web Africa - R75 pr Gig with carrier over. I use them for my international unshaped bandwidth - R125/Gb, as well as regular SAIX traffic. (it's all SAIX btw)

@RN ... me blushes and goes like ... um .. thanks RN.

/me is going Teklom as ISP for 3-8GB and topping up with WebAfrica prepaid when required.

/me is satisfied.

If one is using a lot of bandwidth then telkom is probably the best - then just top up with prepaid, in case of caps being enforced, as Rainy & Stoke have mentioned.
