saw the E3 trailer and this game shows promise from the early game info. read the Ubisoft interview in regards to this game and they are the same team that brought you PoP so expect some hectic action.
thus far only announced for the PS3 but expect a X360 announcement since there aint no talk about "exclusive" Sony rights yet. ;)

Some short but sweet info on the game :
Ubisoft's PlayStation 3 stealth-action title Assassin's Creed will offer downloadable content, co-operative missions and should be out in Europe at the beginning of 2007, according to the US Official PlayStation mag.
As you will know if you've been following our coverage of the game since E3, Assassin's Creed is an old-days stealth-'em-up set in amongst the crusades, where players disguise themselves and take advantage of the crowd to take people out.
Coop play in Thief style? :slide:

So the rumoured recommended reqs (http://exophase.com/pc/rumor-assassins-creed-pc-system-requirements-3054.htm) for the PC version are out :
Recommended System Requirements
Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo, or better processor
3 GB System RAM
ATI HD2900 series, Nvidia GeForce 8800 series, or better video card
5.1 sound card
Microsoft Xbox 360 controller
Funny how all of that costs less if you get a console? :p
3GB of RAM is insane!

OK, those are the recommended specs, not the min specs. But I don't want to buy an XBox controller. And 3GB RAM seems a tad excessive.

17th January 2008, 07:53 AM
I have seen a poor oke at work play CoH at minimum specs and it was scary. Playable but nonetheless scary at how the game looked on a 6600GT card. So anything moderately above minimum will help.
I hope the 3GB of RAM is a typo seeing its really crazy.
rainy
17th January 2008, 08:04 AM
Of course, but at the end of the day it doesn't really change the game if you play on low or high details, as long as you can play it.
Noodle
17th January 2008, 08:10 AM
Considering the size of the maps in the game, I can see where the 3 gig would come from.
I assume with min specs it would reduce the draw distance, this is a pitty as the game really needs to be played with full distance on to plan escape routes proper.

An extra gig ram is not much these days. The xbox controller thing however puts me off a lot.

I recently saw 2x2GB Mushkin modules DDR2-800 at Prophecy @ R1250. Not a bad price for good quality 4GB RAM. Mostly aimed for Vista users or AC gamers though....

Looks like i'm off to the Ram Shop - do you have Minimum System Requirements there?

I just bought 2 x 1 GB chips and it cost me R 500 bucks ..
Memory is really dirt cheap lately. ..
When is it being released ?
Noodle
17th January 2008, 10:46 AM
I wonder if that is the Vista or xp requirements?
As Vista specs normally need more RAM as the bloody OS chows so much for itself.
gus
17th January 2008, 10:58 AM
Emmm, how much ram does an Xbox have? Sounds like they went over the top here. They want 16GB disk space and a very high end graphics card as well. I suspect their minimum spec required graphics card is better than the Xbox one.
It seems these console developers, when they shift to the PC, feels so free after the constraints imposed by the console that they simply throw the rule book away completely and go nuts. And then they are surprised that PC users are miffed at their "noble efforts" to bring the game to the PC.
Same thing with Gears of War. System requirements are nasty. Game is buggy, yet no patch in sight months after the release. Not sure the gameplay matches up. It will take hard convincing for me to again buy a console to PC port game.

Thanks. If I read that right, it is 512 shared between the CPU and GPU. More fuel for my rant, I guess.

Thats the problem with PC game development. Take Crysis and its unoptimized crazy engine. Take CoD 4 which runs on a pultry T41 IBM Laptop. Both have exceptional visuals but why the laziness in programming?
Thats one reason I chose console gaming over PC. Consoles have identical specs so the programmers know how to squeeze the best of the hardware. :)
rainy
17th January 2008, 11:18 AM
This is just over the top. If they can make a game look like AC on a system specced like the X360, why are the PC reqs so outrageous?
And why do I have to use an XBox Controller? Can't I use the Saitek gamepad that I am used to?
Noodle
17th January 2008, 11:19 AM
The GPU does have 10 MB Dram as well, not much.
Makes you wonder how they pull off what they do on the 360.
Guess it shows just how much an OS can hamper the PC's performance. Imagine things were more unified less resources would be spent on the os for all the different parts avail for a pc. Kinda like a mac, but one that actually works.

Rus, here we are talking about a game that was developed for the X360 and gets ported back. If they already have gone to the effort of squeezing the best out ouf the hardware, why is the PC version so unoptimized?

It could be that it aint the same team that originally made the game or that the tools made to create the game for the X360 have to cater for a wide range of hardware configurations.
Maybe the cost to optimize is too great? Dont know. But it is worrying and pathetic IMO.
Noodle
17th January 2008, 11:34 AM
Well the game was not first made for the 360.
It came out pretty muh same time on the 360 and PS3, needless to say the game did have plenty a bug on both platforms, but still small enough to make the game fun!
I do know they said from the start that the game will come out later on the pc, it's just strange that there is such a huge jump in specs, not to mention that porting from 360 to pc is pretty easy given the tools MS has given out.
Given this is till a rumor I would wait for official news before getting too exited.
gus
17th January 2008, 11:34 AM
Noodle, yes, the general purpose operating system does use more memory and that is fair enough in my mind. But is still does not use 2.5GB extra. And this is without even talking about the 512MB GPU texture memory they want which is the same as the total memory on the xbox.
I agree with rainy. In my mind this has nothing to do with xbox vs PC. This is purely about a developer that wants to exploit customers. They want to make big money with zero effort.
Edit: Agreed, should wait for the official spec before getting too worked up.

Console users get reamed every time by games developers but seem to be too caught up in justifying their purchases to realise that they have been ripped off. Yes, console games can be fun. Yes, the graphics can be pretty. Yes, the console may even be a cheaper way to get Blu Ray. So what?
If you like your toy, well good for you. If you like the game, well good for you. There are very few real truths in the world. Two of them are that nVidia is better than ATI, and Canon is better than Nikon. But is Xbox better than PS3 is better than Wii? Who cares? But I suppose if I had to fork out R6K just to play a game I'd probably also spend far too much time trying to justify my disretionary spend decisions.
Remember that is was the IBM PC or the Atari that changed aspects of life. You most certainly did not suddenly start living the day you unwrapped your XBox or PS3. (Okay Wii added something new - but not much more than a tube of balls, a racquet, and a wall would)

I've got no problem with people who enjoy Console games and units ... big up to them
But I can't see myself paying more then R 300 bucks for a game ....
Yes given , I might spend a few g's on computer hardware, but my pc isn't just for gaming , I work on it , play games (duh) , watch movies , connect my ipod on it , download upload , store photo's , movies ... etc etc
And games is either free or not more than R 300 ...
Worst case senario .... R 359 ( WOW all booster packs+ game + 60 day free online play ) not a bad price for what you getting ...
Even with Crysis .. I paid R 299 ... and I got a T-shirt (too small of course ) but still

Funny. So you say EA's "booster packs" are not a ripoff towards PC gamers too?
Besides the usual mumbo jumbo I dont see anything new from your perspective Alb. Maybe when you own a X360 or a PS3 you can testify on their positives and negatives. Thus far its only from what you read on forums and websites, not from actual experience is it? ;)
What we have is just a "PC dedicated for gaming" called a console. Simple as that. I never gloat about being able to surf or run programs on it other than games so why all the anger or perhaps resentment that developers actually favour the console coz its simpler to develop for? I dont mind paying R200 extra for a console game over a PC game simply knowing once I place it into the tray it will run. Did you ever had a latest PC release running without a hiccup? Try me.

Just back on topic for a second - The requirements are not that surprising. We already know it takes about an 8800GT to draw level with the 360 graphically. From a memory perspective, Vista chows 1Gb baseline and 2Gb to run smooth as a start. Secondly the 360's 512Mb is all unified GDDR3 - exceptionally fast stuff which basically allows you to stream straight from the disc into the framebuffer, while a PC has to pass through the slower main memory first. That's not considering that as is always the case, Consoles can run code closer to the metal than PC's.
On using a controller, it's a recommendation, and of course it is, it's a 3rd person platformer! Racing wheels are recommended for racing games. Platforms have alway done better with a pad. You'll still be able to play the game with a kbm don't get your collective knickers in a knot!
@Alb. I agree. Only on the Canon versus Nikon bit ;)
@Price watchers. Heads up boys, PC game prices are going up.
The bad news? In the not too distant future PC games will be download and online only. Infinity Ward recently fell off their collective chairs when they saw the number of pirate PC versions of CoD4 versus legal copies. It's something like 10:1 (That's just the ones playing online). That's why developers are targeting consoles first now. With Piracy so easy and game development so expensive they have to do something. Can you blame them? My R20 is on BF3 being an MMO.
On console games being expensive, I've said it a dozen or so times. The difference is that Console games hold their value and there's a thriving 2nd hand and trade market. I bought BioShock for R480, sold it for R380. Forza 2 paid R400 got R300. So technically I'm paying a heck of a lot less for my games.

Funny. So you say EA's "booster packs" are not a ripoff towards PC gamers too?
They're not. Firstly noone was forced to buy them, secondly they were worth their money for the maps alone.
Did you ever had a latest PC release running without a hiccup? Try me.
As far as the latest games go... UT2007, WiC, C&C3, COD4 are games that I can think of that ran out of the box. Yes, they were patched, but they were running stable to start with. If I want to go back further than that, there's a whole lot of other titles that did the same.

Yes, that's understood. But can I use my Saitek P880 that's bought and paid for, or will it have to be either KBM or the X360 controller?
As far as second hand markets go, we have had the topic before, there is no reason why there shouldn't be a second hand market for PC games. But a lot of PC gamers like to hold on to the games they bought, and not sell them after playing once or maybe twice.
