Friends, Geeks, Clan members, lend me your tears.
No wait. Already done that. Errm. Scratch that.
In light of our not very positive forays into MMOs, we have decided that it is in everyone's best interests if the War Geeks Clan no longer officially supports any type of MMO or game that has a built-in persistent guild-type structure (for sake of my sanity, I will group all those types of games under the MMO moniker in this post).
We've been burned. Twice. I will not let it happen again when it is within our power to prevent it. There appears to be a common thread in these types of games where one lot gets upset with another lot, or disagrees with how things are handled, resulting in massive strife and upset.
No more.
The friendships that have been built go beyond a silly game. Unfortunately, people get embroiled in the games, and they let little things upset them. This is beyond anybody's control. Therefore we take the clan aspect out of it.
As far as MMOs are concerned: If members are playing a particular MMO, be it WoW or Aion, etc, and they need or want a separate discussion area for the game, it is NO problem for us to create a new public forum for it. We will NOT create private forums for these games. The ONLY involvement that the clan or council will have, is to keep the threads civil. Who you choose to play with and have members of your guild have nothing to do with the clan. If you have political issues within your game, it is YOUR issue to take up with your game leadership. The council and the rest of the clan will not get involved.
"War Geeks", "WrG", or any other form of the clan name may not be used as guild names, as it infers support from the clan.
If a council member or other clan leadership-type member has a leadership role within an MMO, it is purely incidental and has no bearing on the clan, whatsoever.
Clan involvement in FPS-style games that support tags will not change at this time.
There will be a separate post in the World of Warcraft forums that will detail how this policy change will affect current members. See here: http://www.wargeeks.org/showthread.php?t=8289

So like how us Console folk are supported.
Good way of preventing future miss haps.... You know the strange thing is having blocked the wow threads I had no idea of splits and the such. So yes I can see how this will work in favor of the clan as a whole. As this will not stop clannies from playing the same game together.
Good work red peeps :sharp:

Well..it solves any future nonsense from being affiliated with the clan I suppose. It still doesn't prevent us from playing MMO's together. Do the council think there will be any change to the tags from FPS? I see you use the words "at this time" when you mention it. Does it mean you are discussing it? I'd just like to know.

No, there will be no change to the tags, and we're not discussing any changes other than what we have already announced. Unless you want to suggest something?

I suggest that we leave this topic to die out and only have the discussions in the new public forum that is going to be set up so that we can move on and up and get this community back to the values that were originally the foundation of an awesome group of peeps. QED

I do not think we have the cash to set up another guild in GW and to be honest, I cannot see the point, since as you say it is pretty much a ghost town at the moment.

Yeah, RB and I started a little while ago.

You lads still playing GW ?!?!?!
My wife and I dusted off the game a couple of weeks ago, after a couple of years absence. We each created a new character and are busy playing through the first campaign again. We are doing on average one mission a night for some R&R time, so are about two thirds through the campaign. We have enough heroes and stuff so that we can do anything we want, just the two of us. It is a nice blast from the past. The game still looks great in my opinion.

edit: I'm sure you've considered the private invited forum like Stokey set up for Travian?
:soapbox:
Travian was all about forming a mutual protection group and then trying to lie, cheat, spy on and backstab other groups as much as possible, while trying to stop them from doing the same to you. A private forum is a must for that. It was a strange ride.
I was thinking on why we never had issues in Travian and I think I have figured it out. We basically have issues every time there is a scarce resource the clan/guild members has to compete for. We never had that for Travian.
For example, Guild Wars was all mostly happy-happy since GW has practically no scarce resources. Getting the best armor and weapons are pretty trivial etc. The only time we had a scarce resource in the GW guild was for 70+ members to compete for 8-ish slots to compete in the Agasa league, and then the wheels came off badly, since we were completely unprepared on how to deal with this allocation of the scarce resource.
For BF xx, I think we were actually lucky so far. We usually struggle to fill the roster for a clanny, so there is no competition for slots. If we had the same situation as is GW where we had 70 odd people competing for 8 slots, we would probably also have had major trouble.
WoW on the other hand, practically everything is a scarce resource requiring a lot of "work" to get. This include raid slots and high end drops. This means guild members constantly compete with each other, leading to a lot of stress. WoW has evolved a lot of things to cope with this stress including kill points (DKP) and Imba scores, but it still cannot take all the stress away, especially since long hours of "work" are involved.
So, what I am trying to say, I think my conclusion is that I think our issues have little to do with MMO vs FPS. It is more that we struggle with situations where we have to compete with each other for resources of some kind. We are friends, so it makes it even harder to make tough choices without hurting feelings. :gimmehug: Unfortunately it is sometimes hard to predict when this will happen, like the GW situation that caught me completely unprepared.

Well, it was just an assumption, actually - people who live in small towns aren't interested in the truth. The truth is boring. If people who lived in small towns actually spoke the truth & minded their own business they'd probably slit their wrists.
