Well you already get tank ho's right? so now you will have ones with scannery bits that show where okes are... whoring.
You can also get any kit combo. So you will have a medic running around with a nade launcher (me :D) and its going to be a bit silly. Wont be as balanced as bf2 currently is. In bf2 you get some of the advantages and some of the disadvantages for each kit.

Steam Beta: Yes there was a leaked image of a Package file we propped on Steam. People with illegal accounts can see games in this environment, but this is not a Beta in the term of Public Test Beta, but a real development Beta installer client for the Steam version of the full game. We are however working with Steam to have the Public PC Beta available on Steam, but can't confirm this quite yet so cross your fingers Steam users. :-)

Anti Cheat: We're going with PunkBuster supporting the same options BF2 and BF2142 had to run unranked without PunkBuster.

Mod Tools: There will not be mod tools for BFBC2. However a majority of the the games logic is controlled by the server and there will be Serverside control options for the dedicated servers.

Public Server Files: We will not distribute these publicly. There are many factors for why we have decided this with the biggest factor being security & integrity of our game & Dedicated Servers.

The developer of the game has advised us that the GAME Exclusive one week demo access (due to start on the 28th January) is now no longer available.

yeah, the destructive environment is awesome!! You cannot hide anywhere. Also makes you think twice about tactics. Instead of running around buildings, just blast a tunnel through them! You then atleast are hiding from the enemy for a bit longer...

Prolly coz they have to pull all sorts of moves, which requires serious technical buggery, to be able to run the same games on dated equipment.

wawa, it's a marketing and piracy thing. Microsoft and Sony make consoles and sell them below cost, they then make their money selling expensive games. By controlling the hardware and software they can hav full control on what happens on their consoles like reducing piracy, you can still run pirated games by chipping the console, but as 1million XBox users found out recently when M$ bricked their consoles it is a risk:reward game. Think of EA games trying to brick your PC if you ran a pirated EA game ... no ways.

PC's are more expensive as they are not sold at a loss, but the PC games are cheaper than console so it evens out in the end. Functionality wise, I still prefer PC as it enables you to do so much more, that said however you can expect the consoles in the future to provide more functionality, but then you are locked to the manufacturer and whatever they decide you should be allowed to do or see. Think of some of these examples to see why you should never lock yourself into a vendor:
- Apple's draconian approach to controlling apps that can be sold via the i-store, including preventing apps that compete with Apples own apps.
- Microsoft bricking 1 million XBoxes due to being chipped, despite ppl owning the hardware.
- M$, Blackberry and Microsoft recently getting into bed together to force Bing onto Blackberry and the new tablets, this is a move aimed at Google, the peoples choice.
- M$ not offering or Bluray players for the X-Box because it would involve paying licence fees to Sony, their compeditor, despite the fact that consumers would jump at this option

This may sound like conspiracy theories, but this is what happens in business, once you get a customer you must try prevent them from jumping ship (think how difficult it was to change cellophone providers before they were forced by ICASA), or supporting one of their compeditors (the Bing example above)

The PC and internet are ideal examples of freedom of choice, and I fully support this freedom. any form of control over either of these by a company or government is to be fought at all costs (Think China's great censorship firewall and hacking Google to get the G-mail addies of political activists)

Consoles are a silly thing. I do from time to time download a game to see if I love it or not, if I love it and am going to play it then I will buy it.
I dont really get the whole console approach to things, they have a captive audience mostly so there is little point in making games so expensive. true the hardware is susidised but it wasnt very expensive hardware to begin with and its all mass produced.

Consider pretty much all of the console owners here used to be PC gamers ...

I spent R3.5 k on a new 360, 5 years ago, less than the price of a single gfx card that you would have had to upgrade 3 time in the same period. All funds were rather spent on games. As for console games being more expensive - they, unlike PC games are tradeable, resalable and rentable. Before I left SA I worked out that I'd paid on average around R200 per 360 game I'd played (Over 100 games btw ...).

That assumes you're doing thing legit.

My 360 plays music and movies, even streaming from my PC, I have Facebook and Twitter, in the UK Roto has Last.fm as well. There are apps and indy games on the indy games channel, We even have streamable 1080p movies, which is why the 360 doesn't have a BR drive, because it doesn't need it. (After 5 years PS3s are still selling a t a loss because of it)

As for Bing on a blackberry (or iPhone), how is choice a bad thing? Currently Google has a monopoly on mindshare. I don't think people really understand how dangerous Google is.

PC and cars are analogous, in the 50s everyone built or modded their cars as people used to do to PCs in the 90's. As for BF:BC2, all I can say is, whatever platform you prefer, get it. I played BC1 for over a year, the only thing that made me stop was 1943. BC2 will replace BF2, of that I'm certain, Frostbite is probably the most awesome engine on the planet, it's awesome.

From experience I doubt it'll dethrone MW2 because BF is a more complicated game. There was always a 'pure' FPS like Counterstrike or MW for those that did get things like Strategy, Squad work and creative C4.

Sheesh look at all these sour grapes.
The only reason why hardcore pc gamers cling to the pc is piracy is soo much easier on it.
The only other thing keeping it going is steam, which is also very much a controlled environment.

Reason console games are more expensive is license fees devs have to pay to said company to have said game on said console.

Microsoft "bricked" these consoles as they breached the terms of use, same thing happens in Japan where people mod their cars and get them taken away as it's not allowed. The bricking was not in total AFAIK. It just prevent the used from installing any games on the HDD again and blacklists the console serial number on LIVE, not the account. Well at least that's what they do now.

But enough of that I enjoy playing games more on my consoles than I do on my PC, others prefer to play much more limited selection of games on their pc's, that's their choice to.

Prolly coz they have to pull all sorts of moves, which requires serious technical buggery, to be able to run the same games on dated equipment.

Also because both Microsoft and Sony take a cut off every game sold for their consoles.

Also because pirating is so much more complicated for consoles (and at the time it seems impossible on the PS3) that they can afford to charge higher prices.

The PS3 is said to be intentionally difficult to develop for. But that doesn't change the fact that they always develop for the same hardware and can do their testing on exactly that hardware, without having to account for the gazillion possible configurations on the PC platform.

500 bucks for a stock standard game is borderline. Anything above that is just a rip-off.

What I hate is the controller. Why can't they just let us have a mouse and keyboard if we want? Then I can play my game on my non upgradable console at my desk.

As a point of interest, the PC gamers can actually count yourself lucky you're in South Africa where PC games still hover around R300. Everywhere else in the world PC games are only about 10-20% cheaper than Console games.

inside you will find a BFBC2 beta folder..
inside you will find a gamesettings.ini...
open that file..
near the bottom you will find 2 lines named: favoritegames=
recentgames=

remove everything after the = sign at both lines and add the following in both :

I don't see the point of buying a new game like BC2, only to use it for a bit and then go off it, because I know I'm not into that gaming style. Like what happened with 2142. Although...there were aspects to 2142 I did enjoy. But anyways. maybe I'll get it later when it goes on special or summin', right now I don't feel the intense need to spend R400ish on a game, when I'm perfectly happy PR-ing with my famdamily.

what would make sense is if you sat down behind some pc and make up your opinion from playing that beta for 20min.

It does play vastly different to battlefield 2. It's a vastly different game with a vastly different engine. Vastly eksê.

Just don't tuck it in with Call of Duty. Call of Duty is all close quarter combat. Bad company is a 50:50 split between field, air and close quarter combat. (my math sucks I know, call it mathematical license)

I would a thought a teacher with a frustrating day would love the idea of driving a tank around, see a building... then just proceed to shell it till the building is no more. Cant do that in BF2 or COD ;)

People need to realise something... its a beta!!
There is only the rush mode in this one. When conquest gets on the cards and more open maps come up then it will be different.
I didnt like it *at all* when I first started but its growing on me. Im just keen to try the finished product in the end.

I am not particularly keen on the rush mode, but as RB says - it's a beta, with bugs still being ironed out. I am not going to miss the game because of one lousy map & one style of play.

They can't all be snow maps & the guys who play BC on the console (that I have spoken to) say that conquest is infinitely better.

I know a whole lot of BF2 people will be moving to BC2, so I'll wait for the game release, play the single-player campaign to get a better feel for the game & then blitz the servers.

I can't blame people for not wanting a game that plays vastly different to what they have come to like.

At the end of the day, some of us have spent several years on BF2. They are now looking for an improved experience, not for a completely different one. I myself have developed a very specific playing style in BF2, which no other game lends itself to, besides BF2142 to a point (I've played a bit of that during the last few weeks and actually had fun).

If you come home at the end of a long stressful day, you don't want to try out new shoes, as fancy as they may look. You want to slip into your worn-out, comfy slippers and just kick back. BFBC2 may be a good game, but it doesn't necessarily mean that a BF2 veteran will like it or be comfortable playing it.

I also skipped COD entirely, but I'm glad I could give BC2 a try. After finding the "mute" function for the language I find that I enjoy the gameplay as much as BF2 & PR. The destructable environment is a big plus, and the gameplay mechanism will (I think) work very well.

anyways - see if you can have a look at some stage - it would be great having you and souper joining us, along with the rest of the PE clan, although we'll still see you in PR and BF2 .. :D

I really have been enjoying BC2, and I don't believe arcadish comes close to describing it without being an insult to the game! ;)

It has times where it is a LOT like BF2, but they HAVE added some arcady touches - like getting awards for saving a friend by shooting their attacker (kill stealing?), spotting an enemy 2 seconds before they're taken out, getting 7 kill assists, double kills, killing the guy who killed you last (vengence) and stuff like that. You get to see your opponent after they whip you, including their health status, so you get an idea of how much you damaged them first. This means that the static sniper has a bit more of a challenge - sitting still all the time will get steadily harder as people start hunting you down. Spotting people shows them on the minimap AND in your view, so you can see a little marker on where the person is and can even take potshots into the bushes in their general direction.

Taking tags from people is great, and very satisfying! :)

Knifing is middle mouse button by default.
Spotting is *similar* to BF2, point at the tank/man etc. and press Q. Don't then click like I did lots! :doh:
Still not sure if it's possible to say 'thanks' or 'need ammo', and if someone throws a medpack do you 'absorb' it like BF2? For that matter I don't really know when I need a medpack. Seems to be a bit like COD in the health department in that you seem to regen - too much damage kills, but hide away a bit and you get better? Could be totally off base there though, can't see a 'Hitpoints' indicator, the interface is a lot less cluttered with info.

You are correct that you can heal after a while but it takes quite a bit of time.
Its not like bf2 when you absorb it, you have to stand over it for quite a while for it to take effect. Its more like a supply crate now but happens faster than a crate would.

Im keen to get through the single player to get the proper dynamics of it. Saw a very cool youtube vid of a guy using the tracer dart. He darts a tank which is up on the hill and then gets behind a building. Then he aims straight up after the lock and shoots, takes out the tank 3 shots and cant be hit behind the building. Lovely for sorting out the armour whores.

It was great fun! Thing is, all the unlocks add so much to the game.. the tracer is an unlock, as is a mortar. I like the fact that the recon is not totally useless when the armor comes your way..

The demo is great. For those worried about rush, it actual has it's benefits, it draws the action to a particular point on the map, so you don't spend ages just looking for sneaky peeps. But conquest is there in BC1 just like ye old BF2. As for BF3, it's a long way off.

RPG7 is the default isnt it? it does work with it. You need to focus on the red dot for a second until it gets a square around it then fire.

I played last night for quite a bit - within a whisker on another rank up.

I really started enjoying it, even though I was getting pwned holy - it takes a lot of getting used to these "invisible" enemies lurking in the bushes, or even just standing in plain open sight in the snow.

I can honestly say I think this is going top be great fun when we can squad together, with proper VoIP working. I wasn't even in a squad & I heard these dudes rapping in Afrikaans - shows how borked the VoIP is.

It really adds a new dimension to being on a battlefield as opposed to BF2. Unseen enemies is the name of the game. Once I got it through my thick head that this is more realistic than any other game I have ever played, I started altering my strategy and enjoying a bit of success - like sneaking up on the APC & the dude that kept spawning on it to repair it :) I nailed the repair guy 3 times in a row while the APC was completely oblivious to my presence.

Using your knife & pistol also seems to take more prominence in this game, which also makes a lot of sense.

Sometimes the engines allow you to hear voip in your immediate area. Might not be a bug. Just a feature.

I remember in rainbow six for a while you had to be careful what u say on voip cos if enemies were in the immediate area they can hear you planning. it got removed after a while.

I think that would be an awesome feature, hearing the actual voices of people in your vicinity. You'd be able to hear people vloeking you & going, "Yeah, right, I know where you are now - EAT MY NADE!"

I think the directional sound is a bit borked. I was in their spawn area, not having left after they conquered the two flags & I could hear a tank. Cool, I have an RPG, I thought. I snuck around for ages & eventually homed in on the sound, and there was nothing there but the roar of the tank.

The sound can be an issue on dual cores. On quads it uses a whole core just to do sound. The remaining 3 are divided up into shaders etc.
It would be nice to hear the guys talking near you and hear what they are saying. I always made sure I kept my voip on non-english for bf2 so I could hear if someone was throwing medpacks or nades etc. KUMBULA!!!!!!!

The hardcore server takes less hits to kill people and certain things are disabled.
Its a bit silly because it detracts from the original game.I think they need to look at the damage though because it takes way too many hits to kill most people.

Telstra can only come install a new line on Wednesday, then it's another who knows how long to get the ADSL provider hooked up :( In the mean time I've got it sitting burning a hole in my game drawer.

On the upside it gave me a chance to finish ME2 ;)

Agreed, and it's difficult to find a server that has space at the mo. Search for iGame or SGS and you find them, otherwise it's a huge pain!

Tonight's gaming was excellent - not sure on the VOIP, might stay with TS3 until that's totally fixed. 3 new tags for my collection, including 33RAM's.. :D

You'll probably have to do that ini hack again, once RB has found it for us (maybe on the SGS forums already) to keep your favourite severs.

@ Punky - lots of people are complaining about that on the SGS forums. As I said, when my game arrives you peeps will have ironed out the problems, I hope.

Nothing frustrates me more than getting DC's. They did mention that because of the different modes running on the same server (rush & conquest) and the different amounts of players required for each, some players will get DC'ed on mode changes as a matter of practicality.

There was only 1 SGS server that I could find, and it was full. I used the iGame servers, and only one had space for me. Hopefully that changes soon..
