OK, so I am slowly learning the ins and out of GW. I thought I would be cool to start a thread to highlight some of the lesser known tricks of GW for the noobs (and me) :) I know you can get all this from the GW wiki, this is for points of interest that you can then go look up specifics in the Wiki.
These are my 10c worth

Elite Skills:
These are sposed to be better than your run of the mill skills, you can get them off dead bosses. You can easily tell who a boss is. They are the dudes that glow a certain color. Also these colors correspond to their character class. You need the signet of capture to retrieve Elite skills from the bosses you have killed. These can be obtained from Lions Arch (I forget what the guys name is. But he is the skills guy there). Once you kill the boss, you go to his corpse and invoke your signit of capture. It will bring up a menu of all the skill you can hook from the boss. Make sure you choose the gold one, as this denotes an elite skill. You may only equip 1 Elite skill at a time.

Runes and Armour:
I recently discovered that your old armour is not completely useless. You can use the Expert Salvage kit to retrieve your old runes from. So if you got a superior vigor rune applied, dont worry, chances are you can pull it off the old armour and slap it on the new stuff.

Weapon Upgrades:
Everyone goes on about purple and gold weapons. I really didnt know what they were on about (cause I am dumb!) But I I figured it out. (finally) you can get a base weapon and apply upgrades to it. Although I knew this all along, I really didnt know where to get them. So if you stumble accross a weapon that has an attribute you like, Use the ol expert salvage kit on it.

Extra Attribute Points:
There is a quest at Augry Rock that when complete will give you a couple of extra attribute points to spend. This is really handy when you are maxed out at level 20. There are two quests that give 15 extra attribute points each, One is in the desert and the other in the Southern Shiverpeaks. 30 extra attribute points are a lot, so well worth doing.

Tip for Wammos:
Well this is more of a personal preference, but... Warriors have crap energy, the Gladiator armour gives you extra energy. This is really handy for pulling some extra shouts or stances before battle with no impact on your actual battleplan. Now if I can just find a way to increase the recharge rate???

Effective Parties:
I have noticed that the only time I complete the tougher missions is when someone in the group takes it by the balls and becomes the "leader". Without someone in your group with a bit of objectivity, the mission WILL fall apart. Pick a leader before leaving for the mission, and then make sure everyone LISTENS to the dude. If he cocks up, then so what, but it is better than seeing all your little green dots on the mini map scatter rioters after the tear gas has been fired. Clear up the objectives as well before you leave (misison and bonus or just mission, etc). And for god sake dont be a quitter, cause then you are going to die of herpes!!!

gkm edit: More details on attribute quests and capture signets

Thread resurrection :)

If you earn Balthazar faction/points, u can unlock skills with it<<---this we all know.

After unlocking a skill(not including elites), it can be purchased at any skill trader from then onwards :)

when doin pre ascelon salvage, salvage salvage, dont sell salvage materials until u get to post seering, you get better deals at the material sales person, then u should have some nice ching to buy your 1st batch of armour, dont go for the cheap stuff.

Yes, the unlock is for youre PvP account. But after the unlock you PvE characters can buy the skill from any skill trader in the campain to which the skills is linked (core, Prophecies, Factions). I have done that a couple of times to unlock a good skill for a new character early.

quickest way to lvl up is to do primary missions, accept all quests and return later to do them. This way u can solo some of the easier ones as you have a higher lvl an d better armour.

Sorry for Double post. But I have made the greatest Discovery in all guildwars history..from this day forth i expect you to sing my praises and pay tribute to me....i want gold and lots of it LOL....ok i know you all are waiting in anticipation so without further adue...here it is (start drum role)

Identify *White Items* yes you heard me - Identify *White Items*
I did a tombs run, noobs got us killed in Hoh so i went to the merch.
While identifying my coloured items i accidentally identified a white weapon- I noticed that suddenly it had a gold value displayed. I went to the merchant looked at the price he was offering me for an unidentified white *say 50g* then i identified that item and its value went up by 20g. thus he was buying at 70 gold. i did this test with every white weapon that i Had (note only Identify weapons or white items that do not have a gold value displaying)

In every case the value increased considerably. an identifyication kit costs 100g for 25 uses. that means each identify is = 4g. one wone weapon i got a 40g increase, and only on one weapon did i only get a 2 gold increase, thus a minus 2 loss on the price of the items. Test this, it works.

Yes, it is worth ID-ing all white items from the crystal desert onwards. Before that you will more likely loose money.
