Soz about the error - I did get it from there

The vehicle you get from the commander seems to be a jeep/buggy thing. Only loaded up 16 player Dalian to refresh graphics and to look for co-op mode. Didn't find that. More reading needed.

I've loaded to 1.3 already - ahead of SGS but I have a soccer match tomorrow and probably will only get to play by Thursday. But I'll be ready!!!

Hi,

If one of you chaps/chapettes knows how you get the co-op stuff working please let me know. I'm tired of being dumb.

Or is it a matter of downloading close on 300MB of 1.3 server?

Cheers

What pisses me off about all these download sites, is that most of them rename the frikkin' file or zip it or something! It completely screws the download manager that can grab bits of the file from various places.

Or another one that gets my goat is the fact that there are like 30 "mirrors" for a file, but most of them all link back to one particular site anyway!
:chair::banghead:

Info on the patch :

NEW FEATURES

Air dropped vehicles: Squad members can now send a request up the chain of command for a vehicle to be dropped at their location.

Co-op: Co-op Mode allows you to play Single Player levels on the Internet and LAN with both AI controlled bots and human players. Several new options have been created that will allow the server creator to modify how the bots behave in game.

Number of Bots: This setting allows you to determine the total number of bots that will spawn in game.

Bot Ratio: This setting allows you to determine the percentage of total bots that will spawn for each team. For example, setting this value to 25 means that 25% of the total bots will spawn in Team 1, and 75% in Team 2. Team 1 is always the MEC, Chinese, or their allies, while Team 2 is always the USA, EU, and their allies.

Bot Difficulty: This setting determines the skill level of the bots. 10 is easiest, 100 is the most difficult.

Default Kit Selection: The kit that you used last is remembered at the beginning of the round and between maps.

Thanks Useless - but there weren't any instructions with pictures with that lot.

On the downloading - which download manager? XFire? EA's Downloader?

I think you needed to be fast out the blocks on this DL (and the others too) or now you sit in the queue. Hopefully it will be up on SAIX and that will speed things up for local access.

Do you have a link for instructions for co-op? Or is it a mod?

stoke
24th May 2006, 08:32 AM
BF2 runs in server mode even when you're playing single player.

So ... if you're running on a LAN, start the single player game and then get the other[s] to join your computer by ip address.

Thanks Stoke - valiant effort. I tried starting up in multiplayer and in single player but didn't see any large and friendly buttons that said "For a good time call This Geek" or "This way to Co-op".

I R still being doff.

Ruslan74
24th May 2006, 09:05 AM
what happens is that you start your single player game and any buddies in the LAN can simply use the multiplayer interface of BF2 to connect to your PC by typing down your machine's IP address.

this is how i understand BF2 works in a LAN with bots and such.

Albereth
24th May 2006, 09:14 AM
As I said - I am being doff. Let me try again:

You are supposed to be able to set up the number of bots and the effectiveness of those bots. Where? How?

I've played with co-op 3 before - well someone else ran it - but that was an external mod. All I am looking for now is easy access to the single button.

Ruslan74
24th May 2006, 09:23 AM
err... i will have to download 1.3 to find out...

i googled a bit and got this bit of info so far :

If you have bought an ordinary clanserver then you may not run the co-op mode.

From this forum. (http://forums.multiplay.co.uk/showthread.php?postid=520644)

So it seems it wont work on a regular BF2 installation.

Albereth
24th May 2006, 09:31 AM
I know that EA have said that you can't have a ranked bot-server.

There is a ~300MB 1.3 server download and I was wondering if it was in that. Not too keen on downloading that much to find out that it isn't.

But thanks anyway.

@Albereth: Me and Paragon have been playing co-op mode for along time now. It's the same as single player but more than one user can play. It wasn't really supported before though. Just start a single player game on one box, and have your buddy join it. The trick to get it working used to be you have to start a multiplayer map, then have him connect but not join the game, then you switch maps to a singleplayer map. Then you both end up in the single player map, with 14 bots in it and you two. I suppose the exploit should now be unnecesary. There's some other way as well where one player starts a single player game and the second has to look for his nick online but you both have to be logged in for that. Paragon and me used to play that for exercise while we were waiting for our adsl's to get installed.I think it would be real nice we you could have a 64 player map with 64 players even if you have only 6 or 8 ppl at a lan thing.

I shot home for a bite to eat and to update the other machines. While there I tried the co-op thing and let me say that I am still confused. I started a single player game and was able to join it through an IP address. A whole lot easier than the previous co-op models - no starting and then leaving nonsense.

But I do not find the controls for the bots.

Ruslan74

Thanks guys - nothing helps. Or I am too confused. I'll just go and sulk for a while.

I get bots - or whatever the standard single player game give you. I can join a single player game. But somewhere I am supposed to be able to choose the number of bots on each side, and just how tough they are. Not exactly the same as choosing Easy, ? or Hard - or so I gathered.

So for now I'll stop spamming this thread and hopefully another doofus will ask the same question somewhere in the world and I'll be able to google it. Or it'll come to me in the trial and error mucking about that I do and call playing BF2.

Thanks

alberth i suspect it will be done like the other battlefileds,

create a LAN game, and select Co-Op mode, and you get bots

TG
24th May 2006, 03:29 PM
Go to Multiplayer -> Create Local
At the bottom by Available Maps, change the game mode dropdown to Co-op.

It only offers 16 player maps tho.

Not sure if you can do bigger with the dedicated server (probably).

Albereth
24th May 2006, 04:46 PM
Are you sure?

I go there and my choices are Conquest and Single Player. Don't see Co-op.

Albereth
24th May 2006, 04:53 PM
Now there's a thing. I went and checked on Cullen Doom's computer and sure enough it is there as you say it is. Difference is that I have all those map packs installed.

Fun - getting rid of that.

who ever was wondering about co-op i think it works like the orriginal 1942 co-op where u just host a multiplayer game and go to gametype and change it to co-op and kapish u get bots...

i dont know why they would change it....

I found that the additional map packs cause a conflict in BF2. I had Conquest or Single Player as options. I deleted one of the map packs - soz there are 3 but only 2 set up a uninstall option - and it all sorted itself out.

Armoured Fury is not available yet - but the colour is orange if TG is going to do the icon thingies.

so if its a sniper SL sitting on a hilltop you are stuffed then? and have to wait till he gets nuked?

TG
25th May 2006, 03:18 PM
Some interesting things that I noticed while playing 1.3 last night:

1) You cannot create a squad when you're dead. You have to spawn first. I think waiting for a game to start is exempt.
2) The blackhawk has been improved a bit, we were actually getting some kills with it on Mashtuur last night!

... umm.. yeah well.

stoke
25th May 2006, 03:35 PM
About the blackhawk ... erm ... I managed to draw perfect Punky body shapes around Punky ... eventually all I could see was the little cloud of dust. So I stopped firing ... and the dust clears ... there's punky lying there giving me the finger.

And ... a good 3 minutes of trying to nail Saint lying between two rooves in the corner like ... also fruitless.

Incredible ... I must be the worst chopper gunner in the world.

TG
25th May 2006, 03:38 PM
Heh, ok then let me correct my statement.

The blackhawk appears improved cuz we were actually getting kills with it last night. Not a heck of a lot, I admit, but it was still much better than previously.

Or maybe I'm just an awesome pilot. =)

I've set up a dedicated server running co-op with bots. It works, but there are some limitations. No matter what you set the player count to, you get 16 player maps. Kubra Dam and Mashtuur City are very noticably missing.
You CANNOT allow the use of Global Ranks or Unlocks, it just does not work. In fact, there doesn't seem to be a way to allow unlocks even on a server without bots.

So in other words, EA has done a frikkin' half-assed job. Again.

@ Darnit - I initially setup the server using the BF2CC demo as above, but then I loaded up the server launcher to see if I could sort out the unlocks, and the bot settings were there.

Sometimes I am wondering if it is actually still worth playing this game. Especially when I read things like this:

http://games.saix.net/cgi-bin/sgsbb/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=240;t=40369

Another feature immediately and completely abused.

But I still get withdrawal symptoms :D I want to :snipe: again! Even if it means being hit by vodniks. At the end of the day you'll just have to choose better vantage points...

Good news is - There is an unlocks patch on TotalBF2 forums that unlocks all weapons for single/multplayer and you can play 32/64 maps including Kubra & Mashtuur...

Bad news is - The bots pathfinding gets all screwed up. On average you will have a min of 6 bots staying idle at spawn and they dont respond to commands. Dont even bother playing maps where you start on an aircraft carrier. They swim instead of getting in vehicles & aircraft.:mad:

Last night I played Mashtuur and captured all the flags but the round didnt end. I scanned as commander and found 2 bots idle far from each other in the middle of nowhere. I hit the one with arty but the other was idle in a building and I had to drive over and bust a cap. - He was crouching in the corner of a room staring at the wall

The decision from DICE is "pending" sooo here we go again. Patch breaks something that wasnt broke and now we gotta wait for the new patch to fix the last.

Lets hope the new "fix" doesnt screw up something else!
