After going through a week of pain and suffering with the new PC I bought, wanted to hopefully save someone else the same problems I had.

What I bought was the following:
Motherboard: Epox EP9NPA3SLI
Processor : AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Screen Card: Sparkle Nvidia® GeForce™ 7900GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E 16X HDTV DVI SLI
Hard Drive : ST3300622AS Barracuda 300GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache S-ATA II NCQ

The first problem I had was that the onboard sound goes into a feedback loop when setting +20db option for mic input. The microphone on the Logitech GamePro-something or other headphones is quite soft, so one HAS to set +20 db to hear anything.

The second, more serious problem for me was that I was getting lag in BF2, and after about 3-20 mins (depending on pb_sleep value) I would get disconnected from the server with the informative message of: "Your connection to the server has been lost"

See the thread below for MANY other people who have had this problem:

http://www.hardwareforum.com/bbs/printthread.php?t=120&page=37&pp=20

- page 20 of a 64-odd page thread.

It seems as if there is a problem between Punkbuster and the nForce3 & 4 chipsets with certain hardware configurations that causes this.

Will update as I find out more..

Yikes. Does that only concern the sound chip? I have an Nforce 3 board, but I deactivated the on-board sound and am using the Audigy 2.

I can vouch for the ethernet issue. My nforce 4 ethernet also stopped with bf2. Didnt realise it was punkbuster though. Just added a seperate ethernet card...:(

If you read through the huge thread in the link, you'll see that various guys had their problem sorted out by either changing hardware, or changing drivers, or playing round in BIOS. However some guys STILL HAVE NO RESOLUTION

I've got an nForce 4 board - I'm using the onboard giga ethernet, BUT I'm using an Audigy 2 ZS sound card.

in regards to mobos, i also have a Nforce 4 card and run the sound via the Audigy 2 ZS. No issues.

Unfortunately my problems didn't go away when I plugged in another ethernet card, and another sound card. Again, this *seems* to be a problem with specific hardware configurations & PB, so you might actually have an nForce4 chipset, onboard everything, and it might all be OK.

After Bethesda swopped the motherboard for another one with the nForce 410 chipset my problems have gone !!! :woot:

Just have to get another sound card as the Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset that I have seems to have very low gain/high impedance on the microphone, so my voice is extremely soft.

Does anyone else have the Logitech Precision Headset ??

After two sets of headphones for which the mic did not work properly, I also bought a Logitech USB-250 set. That was the end of my problems.

Hi BASS!!!
Im sooo glad to see im not the only one with this problem:D

I have Gigabyte K8n-Sli nforce 4 mobo, at the moment I am using the onboard sound, and my Logitech Premium headset's mic isnt loud enough for it, the headset works perfectly with my old PC. So i bought a cheap cheap mic and sticky taped:) it to the mic of the headset, and it works, BEAUTIFULLY!

Thanks guys !! - Fivel, I plug the headphones straight in to the sound card.

More feedback: Gameworld swapped the headphones for me - now have a Senheizer (spelling?) set, which seems a huge amount better. Sound quality is much better too :)
