View Full Version : New Site Issues, Comments, whatnot

If you have any issues with the new site (Not you Vortex- unless you've trashed your horrible browser and have loaded Firefox or Chrome), please post here, and I'll tackle it in the morning.

If you've got any comments or questions, or whatever, post here.

The only reservation I have is the fact that the Shoutbox is on every page you have open. Isn't that going to chomp bandwidth when you have multiple windows open? I normally get new posts & just open them in a new tab...

TG

I'll sort that out today.

You might also want to look at the fact that users other than the author can edit articles - unless that is by design, but I don't see why?

It looks VERY fancy, but i need to get used to it.
Some stuff has been added that i've wanted to see for a long time, so now i suppose it's just a question of getting used to it.

Thanks so much TG, very cool of you brother, thanks for the hard work.

First thing i noticed is that the YouTube plugin doesn't work so lekker, i get the link to the external site, however, Jono posted a vid that i could view here at Aventura WarGeeks.
Specific way of link posting to embed it on the site?

Thanks again TGee, very cool and pleasant on the eye. Will take a little getting used too.

One thing I did notice, and you are most likely aware of, is when you click on the "go to first new post" in the new posts search it only takes you too the page that post was on and not the post itself.

TG

Sheepie, it works fine for me?

---------- Post added at 12:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:00 PM ----------

Oh, my bad. I thought you meant 'Go to last post' on the right hand side next to the poster name. I see what you mean. Must be a bug or something. There's an update due on the 4th Feb, a fix may be in there.

Ahem... and the YouTube plugins?

Noodle

When I open a thread it does not mark the unread posts with an orange block like it used to, the icon is still there but only for read items?

Did you not see my note about the

I saw the note on the video tags, that blinky fellow doesnt like to read your announcements it seems :p

TG

At the bottom of the post, there's a lil star icon.

WondaWoman

So..with the chatbox...I don't like how it announces that someone sent you a PM with the title "blahblah". I don't like how it announces all sorts of other things. I want the chatbox to be for chatting...just chatting. Is that possible? Or am I being too demanding.

Oh. Please. Thanks.

Ditto on the PM thing.

Otherwise, I'm still a little lost, but will get used to it.

Think he wants to gloat about his individual rep comments - used to be in UserCP..

Could be wrong, or could just be me who wants that ;)

It still is in the UserCP. Look at the "Settings" link top right of the page.

Okay..this is just a hopeful suggestion. You know when you go to HOME (article page thing)..and there is a sidebar that pops up on the right that gives you a run down of the latest posts/activity etc? Can't that sidebar stay on the right side when you're in forum view?

I hope that makes sense. It does in my head.

Unfortunately not. It's a widget. Widgets only work on the CMS, AFAIK.

You know what I miss TG? One the very first page I could always scroll to the bottom & see who posted what last. It's not there anymore. I know I can select the new posts, but I preferred just scrolling down the first page. Is this the same widget thing that Wonda wants? Thank you :)

I love this new site - when I copy & paste from another site it brings all the hyperlinks with too, along with images.

Maybe I should just copy the whole internet so we can have our own personal copy? :p

No, that was a fairly recent addon that doesn't work with the new version of the software.

Don't worry, I'm keeping an eye on the addons to see if I can restore some of the missing functionality... if they ever get updated to work with the new version.

I have temporarily disabled the 'table' bbcode, as it is messing up the rendering of the site.

TG, I'm picking up some issues with the chatbox.

When I click new posts, the chatbox freezes my browser (FF 3.6 now) until the chatbox streams a huge list of conversations. It won't allow me to even tab out. Any way you can limit the streaming?

Dude, it's probably your browser (most likely an extension) that is causing your trouble.
Try disabling all your extensions, and see if it still happens.

I installed FF3.6 yesterday and have no addons or anything running. I've disabled all the java extensions though...

I noticed now what it does as soon as I click on view new posts, it scrolls down from the start of the day's chats in the shoutbox all the way to the most recent one and then only allows me to do anything.

It's just something you'll have to live with until a better shoutbox comes along, sorry. Unfortunately my choices were extremely limited.

Perhaps you should try changing your Geek login page to one that doesn't include the shoutbox? I have also noticed FF being quite ghei lately - I click & nothing happens, so I click again, and again, and again, and then I have 4 browser windows pop up about a minute after I clicked the first time.

Maybe I should just click on FF a little while after I have logged in to Windows, as opposed to the second I see my desktop. Hm, food for thought. Patience is a virtue - I am full of virtue. :p

A little birdy told me that Arby likes to hide the fact that he picks fights with his wife just so he can play online while he pretends to be mad with her - I cannot lie. I suggest we make this thread "clan-only" in a hurry. :D

One little issue: I have a huge list of ignore forums as I'm not interested in seeing WOW stuff (sorry WOW players :p), but I'm still seeing new posts in those forums ?

TG
6th February 2010, 08:04 PM
Yes, the custom link I created to do that was replaced with the new style.

As a temporary work around - at least, until I get around to adding that bit of code back in, create a custom shortcut (bookmark) to the site, and add your exclusions in like so: http://www.wargeeks.org/search.php?do=getnew&exclude=72,74,77,78,82,84,86

Usually when I visit the site, I use my 'New Posts' shortcut which points to that link. I haven't noticed if it still works tho.. I just assume it does :p

this may have been a random, one-of-those-things kinda bug, but on loading the wargeeks.org URL, what I assume was every image area had a very large (like 500px square) image saying in big red letters, something like: Hi, please don't use hot links to the images on this site... blah blah

But then I go to the forum page, and back to home, and its back to normal.

Not making this up, I swear :)

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but for me the search and advanced search don't work. Was looking for the ts3 threads and couldn't find them using search.

Weird, you should only get that if you're trying to access an image with a referrer of a different site.

You know all posts are still marked as read when I open a thread, makes it very difficult to tell what is new and what's old.

You could always do that?

Anyway, for you guys having 'read' problems - when you're on the main forum index, at the menu at the top, select Form Actions -> Mark Forums Read.
That should get things caught up.

Also, this problem might still be a bug. I'm expecting a new version of the software any day now.

It's not the problem with unread forums as such.

It's when I go into a thread it automagically marks all the posts as read, so now I gotta guess what was the last msg read, opposed to looking in the top left corner of the posts and seeing a little orange block on all the unread posts.
