RB, what is a good heatsink for me to whack on this beast?
My PC is clean, clean, clean - I have fans running for Africa. Problem is I also have 2 x 250GB's & 1 x 320GB HDD's running in there. When the temperature outside starts hitting 35 degrees my GPU starts running hot (73 degrees). It usually runs at about 63 degrees (under load - 44 degrees @ idle) when the temperatures are normal, but you know it has been well over 40 degrees outside this February. I'd rather spend a bit of money & safeguard my investment. OK, let me rephrase that - I want to play games when it is 45 degrees outside. :)

install an aircon in your place... :p

That is a really good aftermarket cooler though. Otherwise go liquid!

I hate aircon....
I like fresh air, hence the open doors & stuff: helps the smoke waft out the backdoor & lessens the chance I'll develop serious arterial decay. If you're going to abuse yourself, at least try & be smart about it. ;)

I suppose I should get some thermal paste with that.
I always thought copper was better at displacing heat, any idea on the pricing? I am contemplating 2 x GTX285's with my next Mobo, CPU & RAM - what do you think?

Flatty I think it is copper on the base cos that carries heat best but aluminium disperses it faster. So the copper will get it away and then the alu will diffuse it.
I have never been a SLi fan but it is getting better and that would make it pretty much the fastest nvidia card on the market. so if you have the cash then go for it!

Nope I don't have the cash right now - I am hoping that by the end of the year, or so, the GTX285 drops in price along with the i7 & Mobo's.

An aircon would be a much better investment.

This isn't my house...

Portable, knob. :p
I've got one, works a treat. And its a proper aircon, not one of these add water jobbies.

Aha....now you're talking.
Sunny & Fallen bought one of the water jobs which worked, though I got the brunt of it because my PC was next to the only available space - hence the reason I don't particularly like aircons. Having said that I had a groovy little bachelor flat, which I was stupid enough to leave & get back together with my ex, which had an aircon/heater. Tiny little place, but fine for me, and during winter that heater made up for not having a bed-partner. :)
Which one do you have TG?

Um, it's an elegance 10k btu I think.

Great, it's the end of summer :p
I see there's only R500 difference between the 9k & 10k versions at Makro. I read on a forum that the 10k cools about half this chap's house & he recommended the 9k to a guy with a small flat. Is there that much difference in 1k BTU?

Well mine's 10k and it barely keeps my tiny office cool. But I do have 3 computers running all the time in here.
It has been running for ages now and the room is 26deg, according to its own temp gauge that is.
Bear in mind you need to have it near a window so you can shove the hot air pipe outside. And you'll prolly need to empty the condensation tank every now and then, depending on humidity. Lately I have to empty the tank (5l) every day.

I'll probably have to extend the hot air pipe as there are no windows in this middle office. I was looking at heatsinks for my CPU, memory & GPU - might as well get the aircon since it'll keep me cooler as well for about R1k more.

Aircon is the win. quite a few of those will heat aswell so its nice for winter too. I have one of those portable ones at work and its not bad at all.
